21. A Place We Can Call Home

At the end of the day, I was covered head to toe in paint, and so was everyone else. The living room, kitchen, Harry's and my room, and the baby room were done. I spent the whole day painting a stork with all sorts of rainbows and colors behind it flying with a baby bundle. It's sooo cool! I'm happy with the fact that we totally had a paint war with the left over paint, outside of course. After they had me survey the entire rooms, me along with Dani and El, and once we were happy, we took the leftover paint outside to the backyard. We meant to just leave it there, but Louis, being the terrible kid he was, took a paint brush, dipped it in the paint, and wiped it on Zayn's shirt. You can tell where it went from there. Soon Perrie, Carrie, El, Dani, and I were all armed with paint buckets, the stack of the paint behind us, while each of the boys had two paint buckets, each. Harry snuck up behind me and dumped it on my head. "Harry!" I had screamed. He laughed, and tried to get away, but Perrie was too fast. She dumped the whole bucket of paint on his head, and as he was running, too, so the bucket remained on his head. He had tried to yank it off, but it was stuck to his head! Louis had to pry it off. Several curses and screams later, the bucket was finally off Harry's head. That was a fun day. Now I was sitting on the couch with Harry, having showered and dressed, watching TV. Dustin was asleep in my arms. "How's the baby doing?" Harry asked me. "He's fine." I smiled. Harry was so sympathetic and sweet. I had no doubt in my mind that he would make a great parent. "Harry," I said softly. "We can now say we're parents." "Parents," Harry echoed. "That sounds...nice." I smiled. Everything was as it should be. I looked around the house. This was definitely a place we could call home. ••• I was at the store with Dustin in my arms, trying to push the cart. This woman kept giving me dirty looks. I'm pretty sure she wasn't happy with the fact that I was so young and already a mother. I wanted to go up to her and tell her Harry and I were getting married tomorrow. I was in the aisle looking for some diapers when Harry came up and hugged me and kissed the top of my head. "Hey, honey. I got some baby bottles for you." I smiled up at him. "Aww. Thanks." The woman's expression started to soften. "Here, give me Dustin and you go shop." "But Harry, he's really comfortable and I-" He didn't listen, and as Dustin started to cry in his arms Harry sang "Hush, little baby don't say a word, cause Daddy's gonna buy you a mocking bird. And if that mocking bird don't sing, Daddy's gonna buy you a diamond ring. And if that diamond ring turns brass..." He stopped as Dustin fell asleep, right in his arms. The woman was smiling. "I love you," I said. "And THANK you." He smiled. "I love you too," he said before I stood on my tiptoes to kiss him on the lips. The woman wiped the corner of her eye and walked away, probably satisfied we were raising this child right. Good. That's all I ask. After I was done, I went home, Harry carrying the bags, me carrying Dustin. I was happy. The world was happy. The sun was shining into our beautiful newly painted dining room. Life was perfect.
