The Hogwarts Newcomers

This is for the CROSSOVER COMPETITION! Sorry, did that in capitals because I'm really excited for this competition, even if I don't win. After all, its the taking part that counts and I hope you enjoy my fan-fiction!(: Gonna have a fun time writing it. Anyway, this is set in Hogwarts and the Wizarding world surrounding it, but the characters from the Hunger Games come to Hogwarts also, along with some Capitol members that haven't been mentioned before, so I've made them up.

NOTE: I know some of the characters used in this fanfiction are dead ( *le cries* )in the actual books/films etc, but I've bought them to life again in this fanfiction okok I'm an experienced wizard.

Enjoy, PLEASE like and favourite and comment. It would really help me!:3

4. Katniss' Memory

NOTE: ~I forgot to mention this earlier on in the story but I am writing this as though the Deathly Hallows never happened, so everyone's alive and well haha, including (unfortunately) Lord Voldemort.~

Professor McGonagall arrived outside Dumbledore's office and simply gazed for a moment at the beautiful statue of a phoenix, before stating the password (Merlin's beard) to the two gargoyle's guarding the great wizard's office. She stepped onto the moving platform which spun upwards until she arrived, jinxed wand in hand, into the grand office, its walls covered with portraits of previous headmasters and mistresses.

Albus Dumbledore, the present headmaster looked quite grave as he sat in front of the Pensieve with his hands clasped together. Minerva noted the slight paleness in his face. "Albus, are you quite alright?" She asked concerned, quickly grabbing the wand which had flown out of her hand, with the slickness of her Patronus, a cat.

"Well Minerva, I'm an honest man and quite frankly no." He smiled gravely over his half moon glasses and gestured for her to sit opposite him, behind the Pensieve which was full with a silvery mist. The jinxed wand was now trying to sneak from her grasp again, but she was too quick.

"But my worries can wait because I see you have a cursed wand on your hands. May I?" He held out his hand which was blackened still and had spread up to his arm. McGonagall winced as she put the wand in his hand; her fingers had brushed the black hand and it had felt like rubble and cold.

"Professor are you sure Snape cannot do more for the curse? It looks dreadful!"

"I'm afraid not. Severus has done all he can, and he says I have little time left. But I do not fear death. In fact I am rather looking forward to it. I wonder what it feels like?"

"You are a great wizard, Dumbledore."

"Thank you Minerva. Anyway, a rogue wand. The best thing to do is to destroy it." And with that he snapped the wand in half, revealing its core and threw it into the fire.

"Oh dear," he frowned. "That was rather rash of me."

"Well I do think we should have looked into it more, found out who cursed it but I suppose it doesn't really matter... Albus what ever is the matter?"

Dumbledore had buried his face in his hands then looked back up again.

"You would think, wouldn't you that after all the crimes Lord Voldemort has committed, I would be used by now to the extraordinary evil that haunts this world? However it seems as though I am not. I've never really experienced Muggle violence and I'm a bit shocked by what I've seen- to say the least. I knew Katniss was a hero but I never really enquired what for. Well I got a memory off Katniss, I put her to sleep momentarily with a sleeping charm, very selfish of me, very selfish but I wanted to know. Curiosity is inevitable."

"Anyway," he continued. "Let me not bore you with my words. Care to join me? I do not like to see it again but I think it is important for you to know, Minerva..."

And with that they both stuck their heads in the Pensieve and span threw darkness before landing in a dark, dense forest. The leaves were splashed with blood and they heard screams and shouts, and slashes of knives. Then something rose into the air and announced another death.

Once Professor McGonagall and Professor Dumbledore had arrived back in the office, McGonagall was shaken by what she had seen. Katniss had been rewarded for murder, forced to do it. So many children savagely killed...

"I would prefer to be killed by the Killing Curse, a flash of green light and I would be gone. In there, you have to go through so much pain..." She winced. "I understand how you must feel Dumbledore but Katniss had to kill. She had to because she would otherwise be killed herself. She is brave. I think she would be in Slytherin. One of the better ones though."

They both chuckled dryly and Dumbledore summoned a glass of Firewhisky, took a sip.

"Forgive me Minerva. What would you like?"

"A Butterbeer if you please, Albus." And with a wave of the old wizard's wand a tall glass appeared in front of her, which she sipped- clearly deep in thought.

"I know this is highly unlikely, Albus but what if these Capitol people want to reinforce this tradition, here at Hogwarts?"

"And that is my fear Minerva. I will not let it happen here, but perhaps they could convince the Ministry to let it happen somehow in different parts of the wizarding world, however? Can you imagine it, the Cruciatus curse and the Killing curse used so freely, terrible, terrible..." He took another sip of Firewhiskey.

"Do you think they know about the Imperius curse, Dumbledore?"

"Oh yes," he nodded gravely. "The Ministry introduced them to the three Unforgivable Curses on their arrival. They know the incantations. Whether or not they will be able to perform it on the Minister... Well that is a question I do not know the answer to. But I do have my worries Minerva, that if they are determined to reinforce the tradition here that they will go to many lengths to do so."

"It can't happen. We have to warn the Ministry..." She half said, half gasped.

"Oh I've already informed them. But once someone's under the Imperius curse, it doesn't matter what they know- they will just do the person's bidding."

And Minerva and Albus sat in silence, just contemplating the danger the wizarding world could be in if this ceased to happen.
