Rising Star

Abigail Smith is an ordinary teenager with big dreams. Her wish is to become the world's biggest popstar, and everybody knows that when Abigail wants something, she doesn't back down until she gets it. But there are a few distractions along the way . . .

3. Abby Gets Her Heart Broken

For Abby, the day passed in a blur. Slowly, the homework in her locker piled up, until she realised she wasn't going to have time to finish the new song she wrote for her demo. Great.

Abby looked up and saw Ellie coming over. It was great that she got to have her locker next to her best friend's. "Oh my god, Abby. You'll never guess what!"

Abby sighed inwardly. It was probably something about One Direction and their new album. "What is it now, Ellie?" She loved Ellie, she was her best friend in the whole world, who knew her better then anyone else, but sometimes she got slightly annoying.

"Harry broke up with Charlotte!" Ellie blurted.

Abby's heart leaped. Now was her chance. She raised her eyebrows and opened her mouth, to finally tell Ellie about her feelings for Harry, but Ellie jumped in before she could say anything.

"Now I know what you're going to say, that they'll get back together and all, and that I'll never have a chance to ask him out . . . But I already did! And guess what he said?"

Abby's heart began to sink. No, she thought. No, no, no, no, NO. This cannot be happening. Please, please, PLEASE don't say what I think you're going to say.

"YES!" Ellie squealed in excitement, and hugged Abby. Hard. She pulled back and frowned. "What's wrong?"

Abby fake-smiled. "Nothing. Just got a lot of homework. No time to finish my song for my demo."

"Don't worry!" Ellie's face lit up. "I know! You can come round mine, and we can study together! I'm sure your mum won't mind. It's not like you're going to the other side of the city. I mean, we're neighbours! Plus I have some photographs you might like for your scrapbook."

"I'll call her now," Abby pulled out her phone and quickly dialled her mum. She looked fine on the outside, but on the inside, her heart was breaking.
