Rising Star

Abigail Smith is an ordinary teenager with big dreams. Her wish is to become the world's biggest popstar, and everybody knows that when Abigail wants something, she doesn't back down until she gets it. But there are a few distractions along the way . . .

1. Abby Gets Grounded

   "Abigail! Get down here now!"

Abby sighed.  What had she done wrong this time? She put down her guitar, carefully closed her song book and placed it to the side, and jogged out of her room, down the stairs, and into the kitchen. "What now?"

"Where were you last night?" Her mum asked.

"I told you. I was helping Ellie babysit her little sister." Abby had a bad feeling about where this conversation was going. She looked around the room, trying not to look suspicious.

Her mum picked up an object from the kitchen table. "Do you recognise this picture?" Her mum asked. It was her phone.

"Mum! You're not supposed to go on that!" She reached out and snatched her phone away.

"You were performing again, weren't you!" Her mum shook her head, disappointed. "I've told you, time and time again, no performing on school nights!"

"Sorry," Abby muttered, shuffling her feet. "It was only one song."

"I know you want to be a singer, Abby, I really do. But you know the rule. School comes first." Her mum reached out and touched her shoulder.

"I also know the punishment. Grounded for a week, and no singing anywhere other than home and school?"

Her mum nodded. Abby knew the punishment. It had happened so many times. And she hated it. Not being able to perform was the worst thing for her. She loved it. That's why she wanted to be a singer. She sighed, and, taking her phone with her, went back up to her room.

She looked around. She loved her room. She loved the cream walls and pink bedspread and pillows, with matching blinds. She loved the white wardrobe, the white armchair in the corner, and her cream and blue tiled bathroom. But most of all, she loved her instruments. There was a room, like the bathroom, only bigger, joined onto her room. Inside it were a wide array of instruments. There was three electric guitars, all her favourite colours, white, blue and pink. There were two acoustic guitars, one normal, one blue, and a collection of other instruments/musical related things, such as capos, guitar picks, a set of drums, drum sticks, a keyboard, and stacks and stacks of empty CD's and finished songs.

Moving over to her bed, she turned on her phone and quickly texted Ellie.

Got grounded for last night. Hope you didn't get into trouble too. xx

It took Ellie only a few seconds to reply.

Nope. My mum hasn't caught me yet. Sorry to hear that you're grounded. Same punishment? xx

 Abby shook her head.

Yep. Typical mum. See you at school? xx

  Count on it :) xx

Abby smiled, then quickly put her guitar away, and packed her bag. She realised she was still in her pyjamas, and quickly changed into a red and white stripy summer dress and some black flats. She changed her phone case to white, to match her outfit, then trotted down the stairs. She grabbed a quick cereal bar on the way.

   "Bye mum!" She called.

She had a good feeling today, despite the fact that she was grounded. Maybe Harry would even talk to her today.
