9. Safaa and Barnes & Nobles

Brooke sobbed and sobbed, praying Zayn would just answer his phone. After what seemed like the hundreth time, she left another message.

"P-please pick up your f-fucking phone! I'm s-sorry! Please Zayn! You're my b-best friend! My only friend! Please."

She fell onto her bed, and crawled under the blankets, covering her head with the comforter. She would block herself off from everything until Zayn didn't hate her. No matter how long it'd take.

Zayn couldn't bring himself to answer his phone from all the calls he was getting from Brooke, so he shut off his phone, running his hands through his black and blonde-streaked hair. At least being home meant he didn't have to curl his quiff stupidly! It looked like a cinnamon roll! He hated it, but Simon and Lou liked it. And what they said, goes.

He heard a knock at my bedroom door and wiped his tears before answering. It was Safaa, Zayn's younger 10 year-old sister. "Hi Safaa." Zayn smiled, and bent down to her height. "I can't sleep." She said, frowning. "Well I can't either. Here, come here." Zayn picked her up, and placed her on the bed and layed next to her. "Why can't you sleep?" Zayn asked his sister. "Some girls at school picked on me because I refused to give them your autograph. They stopped being my friends, Zayn," Safaa explained. "I would've been happy to Safaa. But I think they were just using you; don't hang out around people like that, alright?"

Safaa nodded, turned around in his arms so she was facing him, and asked, "Why can't you sleep?" "Well, I asked this girl I like to be my girlfriend, and she rejected me," Zayn sighed. "Why did she say no?" Safaa asked. Zayn shrugged. "Remeber that girl Alex used to tease?" Safaa nodded; she remebered Alex and his taunts. She had been young, but she had a good memory. "That's her," Zayn said. "The one from Alabama?" Safaa asked. Zayn nodded. "Since I had hurt her, or, well, I never stopped Alex from hurting her, I guess she's not ready." Safaa yawned. "Go to sleep now, Safaa," Zayn smiled.

He held Safaa close, and she was soon asleep. Zayn loved his younger sister. She always got his mind off of things. Zayn soon found himself falling into a deep sleep along with Safaa.

Brooke on the other hand couldn't sleep worth a shit. She tossed and turned, and finally gave up and just shoved her headphones in her ears, putting her phone on Pandora shuffle. At one point in the night, she came upon a One Direction song. She knew it was Zayn's band the second she heard his voice. She didn't care. Infact, she liked the song. It was 'Change My Mind'. She bought the single song on iTunes, then put it on replay for the rest of the night, falling asleep to Zayn and his friends' lulling voices.

When Zayn woke up, Safaa wasn't there but he didn't mind, knowing she probably got up earlier that morning for school. He stretched his hands over his head, and shifted through his suitcase for clothes; as he never bothered to unpack.

Zayn chose his 'Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, FUCK YOU, Thank You, Thank You' tee, a black jacket, and some black jeans, along with some supras. He styled his hair up a bit with a comb before stepping into the kitchen, there finding his mum, and two of his three sisters, Safaa, and Waliyha at the breakfast. His father was at work that morning.

"Morning Mum."

"Hello Zayn. Breakfast?" "No, I'm alright. Just going to walk around today. Want to remember this town while I'm gone."

"Alright. Have a nice day!" Zayn gave his mum a weak smile before kissing her, and each sister on the cheek. He stepped into the cool air, walking to the park he had been to only days before, where he had reunited with Brooke.

Brooke was awakened by the buzzing of her phone. She groaned and answered it groggily, "Hello?"

"Brooke! You're late to work!" It was her boss, Patricia. "I realized." "May I ask why?!"

"Heartbreak." Brooke simply replied. "Get your ass over here! You know we have a load of cleaning to do here at Barnes & Nobles!" Brooke worked at a popular book store, Barnes & Nobles.

"Can't I just work another day?!" She insisted angrily. "No." Brooke groaned, "Patricia! I'm sick! Let me take a day off, please!" Brooke remembered her promise to herself to not leave the house until Zayn would let her apoligize.

"Fine. But double shifts next Monday!"

"Bye." Brooke moaned. "Bye Brooke."

Brooke let her head drop back onto her pillow, and she felt like crying. Zayn wouldn't talk to her. He was her crush. She really liked him, but she had to reject. She wasn't ready yet- what if he hurt her?

She tried to call him again, and again. No reply. She plugged her headphones in her ears, and pullet the duvet over her head, falling asleep once again.
