6. Dr. Straiker and his Patient

"Patience, Mr. Black, all willl be well soon," resounded the soothing voice of one of the most presigious Doctors in the hospital, Dr. Straiker.

"Patience... There sure are a lot of those in the hospital, Dr. Straiker," I whispered nonchalantly, before adding, "So I was wondering why you are so fixated on this one?"

"Well, you see, Miss Chase, this patient's symptoms are rather..." he paused, before stepping closer to me so that I could feel his hot breath on my ear, "Elusive..."

My thoughts were that the doctor was trying to hide something, and his breath reaked of desperation to find the next clue, though I tried not to show it. Instead, I walked nonchalantly round to the side of the patients bed, only to see what looked like a corpse. His skin was white like powder, and his limbs were wrinkled like paper, his bones and veins protruding from the surface. Looking up, his mouth hung open like a cave entrance, dark and disgusting, and he had a thick tube twisting like a snake into his shoulder, where a crimson liquid was being transferred.

"Well...?" Dr. Straiker asked, after I had been pondering for over a minute.

"He looks as good as dead." I replied callously, scribbling a few notes sharpish in my folder, and slamming it shut so that a gust of cold air blew into my face. The Doctor chuckled under his breath very unsubtly, and then turned to me, his eyes full of some desire, yet for now I didn't know what for:

"As I thought, Miss Chase... At first."
