20. "Love is hard, but it is love."

Emily’s POV

About 2 months have passed since City of Bones. The boys are finally going on tour, and I’m going with them, as I got a job as a crew member basically. I was there to help move it along. Madi’s not going because the tour is 8 months and she’s already 3 months pregnant, and it would be pointless for her to come on tour for 5 months, then leave to go back home. Eleanor of course has work, so she couldn’t go. We’re going with them to their interview in London and the concert, but then Madi and Eleanor have to leave and I will stay.

“You ready?” Liam asks me. I nodded and he grabs my suitcase. He almost falls over because of its weight. “What’s in this thing?”

“Clothes,” I reply.

“Just clothes?”

“A girl’s gotta look her best, even if it involves 20 pairs of yoga pants!”

“20 pairs?”

“And 10 pairs of jeans, 8 hoodies, 5 zip-up hoodies, 3 crewnecks, and about 50 shirts.”

“What, are you making the tour your home for the rest of your life?”

“No, but it will be for 8 months!”

“Let’s go! We have the interview in 3 hours and it’ll take a little while to get there because of traffic.”

Because we all live in the same building, the tour bus was just parked outside. And because I’m Liam’s girlfriend and there’s enough room on their bus, I get to stay on their bus, not in the crews’.

We walk to the elevator, and head down to the lobby. I run outside and see the tour bus at the other end of the parking lot. I run as fast as I can, while tripping over a few rocks. The doors are open when I get there, so I run in, looking around. There’s a kitchen type thing, with a fridge and small stove and a microwave. There’s a red leather couch on the side, with a glass coffee table in front. I start to look around, and find the beds, a bathroom, and what looks like a game room, with an Xbox, Wii, and game controllers strewn everywhere. I hear voices coming from what looks like behind the room, but I don’t see a door. I start to look around, but don’t see anything, so I go to claim a bed. There are 4 beds there, I notice, set up in bunk bed style.

‘There must be another bed around here somewhere,’ I think to myself. I don’t want to claim a bed without figuring everything else out, so I go back to the couch and drop my bag down beside me.

Liam finally gets to the bus, dragging my suitcase up the stairs.

“Finally! You took, like, 10 minutes!”

“I had to go make sure that the boys were ready, and I forgot, so I had to go back up, then I had to drag this,” he says, pointing at my suitcase, “across the parking lot!”

“Oh, um, sorry?”

“Just try and pack lighter next time!”

“Sorry,” I apologise.

“So have you explored yet?”

“Yeah, but why are there only 4 beds?”

“Oh, there’s a bedroom near the front, it has a double sized bed? Well if its ok, me and you are gonna share.”

“That works. Better than Niall and Harry! Who knows what they would do!” I joke. “So where are the boys?”

“Not in the flat, that’s for sure. I don’t know where they are. I went to go find them, but they weren’t there.”

“Well I heard voices on the other side of the wall in the game room. Is there anything back there?”

“A place where Harry takes girls for some privacy…” he trailed off.

“Should we go check it out?” I ask.

“But what if they’re doing something?”

“Louis loves Eleanor enough to not cheat on her, with neither a girl nor boy. Niall doesn’t believe in sex before marriage, like me by the way, and Zayn has Madi. Harry’s the only one I’m not sure about.”

“Well they wouldn’t just sit there watching, so it should be fine,” said Liam. We walk over towards the game room silently.

“Wait, why are we so quiet? We’re not spies or anything!”

“Good point.” We walked about five more steps and got to the game room. I let Liam go in first, since he knows how to get in. He clicked a hidden button on one of the controllers, and the wall slid open. He walked in, and I quickly followed behind.

It went up about 5 steps, and then there was a queen sized bed and a little bit of space on the floor. Harry, Zayn, and Louis sat on the bed, and Niall lay on his back, looking up.

“What are you doing up here?” I ask. “Having a foursome?”

“Not funny Em,” Niall said. I look at him and realize that he looks serious; not funny or sarcastic like he normally does.

“What’s your problem, Ni? You keep acting like this! You’re the one who would constantly laugh, crack bad jokes, and make sarcastic remarks! Now you never laugh, it feels like you hate jokes, and you’re the one that takes everything seriously! You can’t even take a joke anymore! You’re worse than Liam!”

“Hey!” Liam says.

“I love you?” Liam just nods.

“You know what my problem is? It’s you, ok?! You came back into my life, and just ignored me! You ran straight into Liam’s arms, and not even your own brother’s! All you ever seem to care about is Liam! You never even talk to me anymore! What happened to the friendship we had as kids? What happened to our promise to never leave one another?”

“I’m sorry, Niall. I really am,” I try apologising.

“It’s too late for that,” was all he said as he walked out of the room.

“I’ll go talk to him,” Liam sighs.

“No. Just leave him. He’ll be fine. I’ll talk to him later.”

“I’m just gonna go and start planning. See ya later!” Louis walks out and Harry follows.

Zayn just says, “I’m gonna go call Madi,” and walks away.

“Well that escalated quickly,” Liam says.

“Not the time Liam.”

“Oh c’mon! That was funny!” Liam exclaims. I just shook my head and walk out.

Liam’s POV

“What the hell just happened?” I ask aloud, hoping no one can hear me. Niall freaked out at Emily, just because she hasn’t been spending every second of her time with Niall. I walk out of the room to go find Niall, and confront him about his outburst. I find him where I thought I would; the kitchen. He notices me and tries to go to the game room, but I block his way. He keeps trying, but I keep moving.

“Get out of my way!” He screams.

“Not until you talk to me,” I say confidently.

“There’s nothing to talk about.”

“Why yes there is! The weather, football, why you flipped out at your own sister for not spending every waking second with you, books,” I list off.

“You would probably do the same if your sister was with you but only spent time with her boyfriend!” Niall counters.

“Actually, I’d be glad that my sister has a boyfriend, and could even stand to be with me!”

“Your sisters are older! This would never happen!”

“And who says it wouldn’t?”

“What, so you’re just a magical genie leprechaun now?!”

“Just calm down you know it’s a joke!”

“Well it sure ain’t funny anymore!” He yells and walks away.

“We’re not done talking Niall so get your arse back over here!”

“You’re not the boss of me!”

“Well who is?”

“I’m surprised. I thought you were too irresponsible to, with you hating your sister and being childish!”

“Oh that’s it!” He yells and runs toward me. He jumps on me and tries to push me to the ground. I fall onto the couch because of the added weight. We roll around, just trying to fight. The boys and Emily finally walk in and pull us of each other. Louis and Harry don’t hold Niall tight enough though and he breaks out of their grip and tries running for me.

“Ok, what the actual fuck is going on here?!” Emily demands.

I say, “I was trying to talk to Niall about blowing up like that and he just blew up again,” as Niall says, “Liam just randomly started hating on me for blowing up earlier and he wouldn’t stop.”

“One at a time. Please,” Emily says.

“Liam was trying to talk to Niall about blowing up and Niall blew up again and Liam just randomly started hating on Niall for blowing up earlier and Liam wouldn’t stop,” Louis explains.

“What is going on here?! You guys are best mates! One of the most popular bromances is Niam! That’s you guys! Stop acting like you hate each other and just become brothers again! I mean, you basically will be at some point!”  Emily points out.

“Not if I have anything to do with it!” Niall says. “I hereby declare that Emily Rachel Horan and Liam James Payne can no longer go out with each other!”

“What the actual fuck?! You can’t stop me from going out with someone!” Emily screams.

“I’m your older brother, I can do anything!”

“You may be able to stop us from dating, but that doesn’t mean loving!” Emily stomps out of the room, and out to the parking lot.

“So who gets the double bed?” Louis asks. “’Cause if it was Liam and Emily, that would be awkward. So…”

“It’ll be me and Emily,” Niall says.

“Who says she wants to be on this bus now?” I say. “It’s not like she has a reason anymore!” And with that, I stomp off to try and find Emily. I look everywhere and can’t find her. The last place I haven’t looked is the crew bus, but I don’t know why she would be there. I still try, but with no luck. Then I remember the last place I forgot. The band’s bus. I run over, up the steps, and through the door. I find her crying into Josh’s shoulder.

“Emily?” She looks up, mascara staining her face, her eyes red and puffy.

“What are you doing here? Won’t Niall be mad that you’re here?”

“What can he do? He said it himself; he’s as terrifying as a baby penguin. And he can’t stop two people from being in love. Nothing can.”

“Not a curse, nor a law, nor a drug, not the news of a lifetime. Love is hard, but it is love,” Emily says.

“That sounds like a quote,” I point out.

“Almost. I just altered a quote from City of Bones. It’s supposed to be ‘Law is hard, but it is the law’. But love is like the law. It’s hard, but it’s love. And we can be like Jace and Clary, Magnus and Alec, Tessa and Jem, Tessa and Will. Not the worst news ever, nor a law, nor a drug, nor a curse, can keep them apart. Well, maybe that doesn’t apply to Tessa and Will. I have yet to read the third book, so I don’t know what happens to them, but in the first, Will loves Tessa, even with the weight of his curse on his shoulders.” Emily starts to tear up, like they’re Romeo and Juliet. “No law that the Clave makes can keep Magnus from loving Alec. No opium can keep Jem from loving Tessa. Not even the news that they’re siblings, can keep Jace from loving Clary. And no brother of mine can keep me from loving you.” I look at Josh, who is now standing by Sandy, and looks like Emily watching The Hunger Games; a mess of tears and joy. Emily stands up and walks over to me.

“No band mate of mine can keep me from loving you.” I close the gap between us, and place my lips on hers. And for once, I don’t care what anyone thinks. No brother, no band mate, no fan, no manager, and no hate can ever keep us apart.

“I love you, Emily Rachel Horan.”

“I love you more, Liam James Payne.”

“You wanna go there?”
