Summer Love *Complete*

It was the summer of 2011 and the warm sunlight was streaming through the car window. I groggily opened my eyes to see the family car pulling into our summer house in Australia.

"Arabella, we're here." my mother whispered, turning around in her seat.

"Start grabbing your bags out of the back." my father told my sister Jillian and I.

We were spending the season in our summer house this year. Our home was actually in Mullingar, West Meath Ireland. I didn't really want to come down here. I don't like the beach; mainly because I don't like to tan and I'm insecure about wearing my bathing suit around.

"Perk up, clover. Good luck is coming your way this year." My mother constantly tried to convince me that this year's summer would be better than all the rest, but I obviously didn't believe her. Just because we were some where else, doesn't mean that anything will be different.

6. Problems at Home

"Wake up!" Some pulled me into the floor.

"Get up! You're coming home now!" my mother grabbed my arm and yanked me up the stairs.

"What is your deal?" I tried yanking my arm away, but my attempts were futile.

"It is ten o' clock at night! You were supposed to be home by five! And just where do I find you? Cuddling up to some boy that you've started dating that you hardly even know! It's pathetic and I'm taking you home now." She yanked at my arm again.

"Stop!" I yelled at her, waking Niall.

"I don't think so." she growled. "This is why I don't let you around people, they've messed you up. He is some one you'll never see again."

"You're the reason I'm messed up! You poisonous bitch!" I had finally released myself from her grip.

Then, I felt a swift sting in my cheek. Tears welled up in my eyes at the burning sensation.

"Don't speak to your mother that way!" she screamed.

"You are not my mother." I said through gritted teeth. She grabbed a handful of my hair and began pulling me out the door.

"Stop it! It hurts!" I yelped in pain.

"As if you know what real pain is." she chuckled.

"I do. I've had to live with you for eighteen years." I countered, but that only made her pull harder.

She didn't let go of me until my father parted us.

"Lori, what in God's name are you doing to Arabella?" he looked from her to me.

"Teaching her some discipline." she spat. "She needs to know that she can't just go around, messing with boys and hiding out in caves for hours on end. A teenager her age should know about responsibility."

"You're going to lecture me on responsibility? I've done everything I was told for eighteen years! And now that I've finally made a friend you say it's messing me up? You have a seriously fucked up mind."

"Arabella, watch your language!" my father scolded.

"It's not fair." I was on the verge of tears. "You all get to have friends and be happy, but I don't. Why does it have to be me? I don't ask for much."

"With the trouble you're in right now, missy, you're asking for too much." mom pointed at me, glaring. "Do you even know what she's done Adam? First off, she runs off with a boy we hardly know to hide out in a cave. A cave. Then when I come to rescue her, she is lying on top of him--"

"I was not!" I interrupted.

"Shut up!" she screamed. "Then she says she doesn't want to come home with me because she wants to take her boyfriend, Niall, home."

"He was getting sick!"

"Zip it! Then, she doesn't show up for dinner or anytime after. And when I go to ask Maura where she's at, she tells me that Arabella has been over there the entire time. I walked in on her and Niall sleeping together."

"Say what?" my father interjected.

"We were literally asleep on the couch. I had played the piano for him."

"Likely story." mom, Lori, narrowed her eyes at me.

"You don't know anything you dream-sucking witch from hell!" I yelled at her before running up the stairs, hot tears spilling down my cheeks. I couldn't take this. Things had never been this bad before. I locked the door before flinging myself onto the bed, letting out loud sobs. I curled up into a ball and pulled the covers up over my head. Oh, how I wish Niall were here. He would probably be angry with me for crying again. I laughed half-heartedly at the thought. I could never see him again. With my mother in gear, I wouldn't be able to see him again. My heart ached. He was all I've ever wanted; actually, he's the only thing I've ever wanted. I knew that I'd die knowing we couldn't be together. Then, I heard a click from my window. Recognizing the sound, I rushed over to it and swung open the glass. Niall's room was dark.

"Down here."

I looked in the direction of the voice to see him standing there in flannel pajamas, slippers, and a blanket draped over his shoulders.

"What are you doing outside?" I asked.

"I didn't want to attract a lot of attention, but I really wanted to speak with you. Are you okay?"

"No." I admitted, my voice quavering as I did so.

"I didn't think so after what I saw."

"It got much worse." I sobbed, pressing a hand to my cheek.

"Can I come up? Through your window of course."

"If you can," I tied my sheets to the bed and let them fall out the window.

Minutes later he was standing in my room. It felt like something out of a movie. He rushed over to me quietly and hugged me. I broke down in his arms and began to sob.

"I know you don't want to see me cry," I whimpered,"but I can't help it."

"Shhh..." he stroked my hair. I embraced him tightly, not wanting even and inch of space between us.

"She was so cruel to me." I looked at the bruises on my forearm.

"I saw her slap you." he looked at my cheek.

"That wasn't the worst part."

"Well what was it? Let me see it." he examined me.

"She told me I wasn't allowed to ever see you again." I said softer. He held my hands in his hands and smiled at me. He gave me a kiss.

"She can't keep us apart." he kissed me again. "Now c'mon, let's get some sleep."

"You're staying?" I asked confused.

"You don't want me to?"

"Of course I do." I replied defensively.

"Then it's settled." he grinned, got up and turned off the lights, then tucked me in. He got in bed next to me, snuggling closer and closer.

"Niall?" I said turning over.

"Yes, Arabella?"

"I don't really know how to say it, but, I--I think, well, I know..."

"What?" he asked in anticipation.

"I love you." I blurt out.

"You've no idea how much I've wanted you to say that." He looked deeply into my eyes, and I lost myself for a moment. The entire universe seemed to only consist of us. He kissed my forehead, then down my face, until he reached the corner of my mouth.

"I love you too." he purred before leaning in and kissing me gently.
