Summer Love *Complete*

It was the summer of 2011 and the warm sunlight was streaming through the car window. I groggily opened my eyes to see the family car pulling into our summer house in Australia.

"Arabella, we're here." my mother whispered, turning around in her seat.

"Start grabbing your bags out of the back." my father told my sister Jillian and I.

We were spending the season in our summer house this year. Our home was actually in Mullingar, West Meath Ireland. I didn't really want to come down here. I don't like the beach; mainly because I don't like to tan and I'm insecure about wearing my bathing suit around.

"Perk up, clover. Good luck is coming your way this year." My mother constantly tried to convince me that this year's summer would be better than all the rest, but I obviously didn't believe her. Just because we were some where else, doesn't mean that anything will be different.

3. Dinner? Already?

"Wake up, Beast! Sleeping won't make you a Beauty!" Jillian jumped on me, waking from a dreamless sleep.

"Wha--"

"We're going to have dinner with the people next door tonight and mom told me to wake you up before we go. But I know you like that boy so I woke you up earlier." she fixed her pink bows that hung from her loose, strawberry braids. She kept her eyes low. I smiled and gave her a hug. She tensed and pushed me away.

"Don't get all touchy with me." she said annoyed.

"Thanks anyway." I said still smiling.

She gave me a quick grin. "Yeah, yeah." She walked out of the room, but I could hear her skip down the hall. Then, BAM. It hit me. I had to get ready. I crawled off the bed in a haste, in turn causing me to slip on the sheets that had fallen in the floor. I landed on my bum with a loud thump. Though my tailbone ached, I sat up and crawled into my adjoining bathroom. I stood up and looked at myself in the mirror. Not pleased with my appearance, I ran a brush through my hair and applied a bit of makeup. That's right, makeup. Something that I haven't put on in years. Walking back into my room, I slipped on a cute little light green sundress with some brown strappy wedges. I prayed that I wouldn't trip in them tonight.  I pulled back my bangs in a head band and let my hair fall down in cascades of brown waves.

"Arabella? Wake up sweetheart! We're going to dinner next door!" my mother called up the stairs.

I pinched my cheeks one last time to give them a natural flush. I cautiously made my way down the steps to find a very bewildered family.

"What?" I asked venomously.

"You look lovely." they all said at once. I smiled and gave a small spin?

"You like?"  I asked rhetorically.

It was mid-afternoon when we made our way over to the house next door. Niall answered, politely holding the door open for all of us. I shuffled in behind my parents and he shut the door behind me. He gave me an eager smile so I could tell how excited he was to have me here.

"How wonderful it is to have you here!" An older blonde woman greeted us with hugs. "I hope you're hungry. Oh! And I see you've brought pie! Delicious."

We followed her into a large dining room. I took an open seat as Niall sat to my right. I felt my cheeks heat up, but what more could I do?

"If you're unaware, my name is Maura, and this is my son Niall. I see that you and him are already acquainted." she spoke to me directly.

I nodded in an attempt to mask my blush. "We met on the beach, today actually."

"Well it's great that you two have become good friends so fast." she gave me a flash of a smile.

We finished dinner and Maura went to fetch dessert. Just as I was on the brink of boredom, I felt a warm hand on my knee. It felt somewhat familiar. I glanced down to see Niall's palm resting on my knee, tapping out a beat a didn't recognize. Then, he took my hand in his and intertwined our fingers. Eventually, Maura walked back into the room with the apple pie my mother had brought.

"So Niall,"my mother began,"you're what, 18? Do you have a job?" Great, mom just has to stir up trouble.

"Ooh Niall, tell them about your work." his mom had an enthusiasm about her.

"Mum, please, not now." his face seemed worried.

"Oh but why not?" my mom folded her hands on the table.

"It just...attracts a lot of attention." he sighed.

"Well, spit it out." I leaned towards him, barely on the edge of my seat yet still holding his hand. I gave it a comforting squeeze to reassure him that everything was okay.

"I'm in a band. It's called One Direction." he spoke warily.

"I knew it!" Jillian's voice rang through the air. I was so enthralled by Niall that I had completely forgotten she was there. Here eyes were wide with excitement, whereas Niall's were wide with fear. I couldn't help but giggle.

"This is SO cool! I can't believe that I'm eating supper with one of the most famous people alive! But it's just you here, where are the other boys?" Jillian babbled.

"Their homes, I guess."

"So you came here alone?"

"It would seem that way wouldn't it?" I replied harshly. "Anyways." I turned to Niall,"what is One Direction?"

He exhaled thankfully and smiled. "A band I'm in with some friends of mine. It's internationally known but I find it relieving that you don't know, so don't worry about it."

"Why's that relieving?" I felt kind of offended.

"Because we have a wild fan base and I think it's nice to meet a girl who won't attack me for a lock of my hair." Maura, Niall, my father and I all laughed, but Jillian and my mother stayed reserved.

"I don't think that Arabella would do that. She's not the crazy, erratic type of teenager." my father told Maura.

"I wish I could say the same." she replied.

"Mum," Niall whined whilst blushing.

"How about all of the kids go find something to do while the adults talk?" my mother suggested.

"Splendid idea! There is so much I'd like to discuss with you." Maura agreed.

Jillian went to sit on the couch. I was about to trail behind her when Niall tugged at my arm. It was pitch dark and I had to wait for my eyes to adjust. I heard a click, then, beautifully strung white lights lit up the back deck. The were gorgeous and gave and exuberant feeling of joy.

"You like them? I hung them myself." he stated proudly.

"I love them. They make the deck look amazing." I replied, still in awe.

"They look even more amazing reflecting in your eyes." he walked over to me. He took my hands in his and looked me directly in the eyes. My being in heels made our height about even, but the moment still felt special. Slowly, he leaned in towards my face, and ever so lightly, kissed my gingerly on the lips. It felt like a firecracker inside me, cliche I know.

"Niall?" Maura walked onto the deck. We pushed each other away and stood there uncomfortably. "What's going on?" she asked curiously.

"I was, uh, I was just--"

"He was showing me the lights on the deck. They're lovely, they are." I had my hands folded in front of me and gave her a warm smile.

"Why thank you." she smiled back, but I'm sure she knew that there was more to the story. "Arabella, your parents are ready to leave."

I nodded and walked back inside as her and Niall followed behind, laughing and sorts. I joined my family reluctantly as they stepped outside.

"It was lovely meeting you both, and dinner was fantastic." my mother sounded sincere. "See you soon."

Waving goodbye, we walked back to our house. I ran upstairs as quickly as I could and changed into my jammies. I lay down on the bed and squealed to myself. My heart pounded madly with glee. I ran my index finger over my lip and relished in the memory of our kiss. His soft lips pressed against mine own. Click. I sat up quickly and searched around my room. Click. There it was again, coming from my window. I walked over to it and looked down at the ground. When I looked back up, I saw Niall hanging half way out of his room, waving at me like a madman. I unhooked the glass and swung it open.

"What are you doing?" I asked him laughingly.

"I didn't get to tell you goodnight." he yelled to me. "So...goodnight, and sweet dreams."

"As to you." I grinned.

"I know mine will be. I'll be dreaming about you all night." he smiled back.

"Quite the charmer, are we?" I teased.

"I try." he replied playfully.

"I'm heading for bed." I motioned towards it.

"As will I." he sighed.

We simultaneously shut our windows and turned off the lights. I embraced the darkness, looking forward to a night of glorious dreams to come.
