18. The Olympics

**Okay here's the finale chapter. Hope you enjoy!

*Two months later

Niall and I strolled down Olympic Village meeting all the athletes. It was the night before my finale meet and he was trying to distract me. It had been the best 3 months with him. He’s more than perfect. Harry and him still had tension and each time I brought it up he tensed up and changed the subject. He pulled me to the side and quickly embraced me.

“Niall!” I laughed.

Gabby walked by us smiling.

“Have I told you that you’re beautiful?” he smiled, kissing me between each word.

“Shush” I said walking away, but he quickly grabbed me and pulled me into him.

We finished talking to the athletes and he took me two a private dinner. I just put on a white long sleeve dress with a grey scarf. I was my first time in London, and all day Niall was showing me around. After dinner he took me back to his “Flat.” I was very tidy, except for a few shirts and a guitar on the floor. He made me tea while I sat at his island.

“Cute house”

“You mean manly?” he asked raising an eyebrow.

I laughed and just agreed with him. He put the teacup in front of me and we talked.

“So when’s your mum coming?”

“The plane lands in the morning. Hopefully she gets here in time”

Our conversation was interrupted by a knock on the door. Niall got up to open it and I walked up behind him. A very attractive blonde stood at the door.

“Oh hello?” Niall said nervously.

She eyed me and then him.

“Just saw you were home. Just saying hi…”

And she turned around and left.

“Who was that?” I asked, suspicious.

“We used to play around…” he said avoiding eye contact. At least he was being honest with me.

We went to sit down on the couch and there was another knock. Niall sighed and got up. I decided to stay on the couch and get comfy.

Liam, Louis, and Harry ran through Nialls door with balloons and roses. They stormed at me and smothered me with hugs. Tears formed.

“Thank you,” I said hugging and kissing the cheek of each of them.

“Good luck tomorrow! We’ll be there for you tomorrow secretly cheering you on” Louis winked.

Last night at opening night they had a huge performance that I had to miss. I’ve been constantly resting my body and preparing myself.

“See you tomorrow!” I called at them as they went back to their flats.

It was finally Niall and I alone. We decided to cuddle on the couch and watch a movie. I woke up and 3 in the morning and I needed to change out of the dress. I quickly tip-toed to his room and went to his dresser. I pulled out a plain white shirt and slipped on a pair of his basketball shorts. You should see my hot pink bra through his shirt, oh well. I woke him up and we went to his room. He wrapped his arms around my cold body and we feel asleep, chest to chest.

The sun peaked through his blinds waking me up before his alarm. I readjusted my body which woke him up. His face look different, it looked new.

“Morning beautiful” he croaked.

His morning voice was so sexy.

“Morning” I yawned kissing his nose.

We laid awhile but finally got up at 8. We ate breakfast on his balcony, waffles and eggs, which he cooked for me. He drove me down to the stadium and we sat around for a few hours until they called us to get ready.

“You’re perfect. Ya know that?” I said hugging him goodbye. The next time I saw him I’d either be a winner or loser.

“Shush. Do your best alright? We’ll be cheering for you.”

“Watch for my mom. Her cars on the way”

“Alright babe. See you soon”

He hugged me tight and gave me a kiss.

I walked to the locker room and changed into my white leo. I put my hair into a high messy bun and put tons of bobby pins in. We all sat and talked in the locker room, well we all tried to talk. Since we spoke different languages it was obviously hard. After what felt like hours, they called us for line up. It was like trials all over again. I had the same exact emotions. USA had a strong team over all, but going against the Russians would be hard.

We started marching out and flashes came from all over. There were thousands of people in the arena. I took deep breaths and cleared my head. I was doing this for my country. I worked hard to be on this floor. Marta and our coaches found us and they talked to us. We all did a group hug, now it was game on.

We began on floor, which was the worst thing. Phil didn’t modify my routine. I did exercises on my leg and we were praying that’s all I needed. I was schedule to go last. I watched all the girls do their routines, which were over all better than they had been.

I walked out to the middle of the floor and got into my starting position.

“Bend your leg…bend your leg”

I repeated that in my head until the music started. When it did, I gave it my all. I jumped, flipped, and skipped around the floor. I stuck all but one of my passes. I stood on the corner of the floor and prepared myself. I took a deep breath and took off. I did my cartwheel and went straight into my tumbling. Things went into slow motion from there. I made sure to bend my knee, and when I landed no pain. The crowd roared and I saluted the judges. I ran back to Phil who spat questions at me about my leg left and right. I had to assure him I was fine. We waited for results and Russia was in first, then the Ukraine, and then the USA. We were all so close.

Next was beam, which was my worst event. I wanted to opt out of it but Phil refused. This time I was first. I got up on the beam. I began my routine being quick but clean. I finally finished, knowing that my score was going to be nothing special. I sat around and watched my team do the best they could. We watched the Ukraine do their vaults. One girl fell, which would bring down the team score. We all waited anxiously for the scores to come. That fall brought us up to second place, still falling behind the Russians.

We got a little break to let other teams catch up. Next were my two best events. This was going to be fun now. After 30 minutes of stretching, we were called to the bars. Gabby went on first. She was absolutely amazing on bars. The way she could fly around was unreal. She stuck her landing and the crowd cheered even louder. I was second. I did my kip and got on the bars. I was careful with my second release and made sure my feet didn’t hit the bar. I stuck my landing and saluted the judges. It was an okay routine. I felt like I could have done much better. I sat and watched the others preform their routines. I felt so sick with nerves. We had one more event left and then I was done…forever. I had to finish strong.

We watched for the score and we were still in second, with the Ukraine a few points behind. Russia still had the lead. We walked to the vault. This was where McKayla shined. She was flawless with her vaults. She was first to go. She stood and the end of the mat and she shot down the lane. She did her vault, not missing anything. Her landing was perfect. Her formation was perfect. We all jumped up and down and cheered for her. That was definitely a 10.0. We wait for her score. The stadium boo’d when they saw she had a tiny reduction. There was no error in her vault. Phil got heated but Marta quickly cooled him down. I was last. I stood on the very tip of the lane and ran full force at the vault. I jumped up and did my classic vault landing perfectly. McKayla ran up to me and hugged me, “That was a 10!” she yelled in my ear. We both anxiously waited for the score. Again, I got a deduction. The crowd boo’d again.

We waited for the Russians to do beam. The whole world watched as they started the routines. The first routine was very strong, only a few very tiny stumbles. Next was a very tiny girl, If I saw her on the street I would say she was 12. As she was doing a back-handspring she didn’t land correctly and fell. I felt a little hope that it would mess up their score. We watched the next girl, who messed up getting on. We all looked at each other with the same thought, but we still watched. The finale girl went and had a big stumble on the beam. The Russian girls already began crying. The entire stadium held their breath as we watched for the results. It was either USA or Russia, and nobody had any idea who it was going to be. We sat around and waited for what felt like hours. Finally, someone spoke and the stadium went dead silent.

“Here are the finale results”

Our eyes shot to the screen and saw USA, comfortably sitting in the first place position. We all jumped up and hugged each other. We all cried tears of joy. Tears of hard work. I let myself go. I was full on sobbing. American flags were being held up in the crowd. Marta hugged us and so did Phil, who was actually crying. They handed Gabby the microphone who thanked everybody.

We went into the locker room and went into a group hug. This was the memory I was going to tell my children. This was going to be what I remember the rest of my life. Getting gold at The Olympics, my only dream.

We all stood in the first place spot on the podium during awards. We received the gold metal. The US National Anthem played and we placed our hand over our heart. When it was over, I realized I was done with gymnastics. It was no longer a part of my life. Now it was time for college. To spend time with Niall.

I waited for my mom and the boys outside the stadium. I wasn't going to find them in the crowded room. I sat on the bench and waited for thirty minutes. I looked up and saw Niall running towards me. I jumped up and ran to him. When we meet, he picked me up and swung me around, placing kissed all over.

“I’m so proud!” He said, his eyes were blood shot.

I began to cry. He began to cry. My mom began to cry. Now I was left to live my life, which was going to be something new.
