9. Surprise

*Tessa's POV*

It was cold when I woke up in the morning. I had no idea what time it was, but it was early enough for the sun to just be taking its place in the sky. So I knew I wasn't late for work, thank God. Harry was sleeping beside me, snoring. I giggled, thinking that I was grateful for waking up beside him. Harry was so caring and romantic, and the sweetest guy I knew. I loved how much he cared about me, because he was the first guy that's ever treated me the way he did. And he was so beautiful... This was the first time I got to really study his features. His brown curly hair flowing across his forehead, his long eyelashes and adorable nose. I loved his enticing emerald eyes and his crooked smile. I loved the way he blushed when I kissed him when he didn't expect it. Or the way he laughed uncontrollably and the simplest joke. It made me wonder what I did to deserve someone as perfect as Harry, but I wasn't going to question it.

Harry breathed in a deep breath and crinkled his eyes. I giggled and started kissing his face. I started on his nose, then his chin and his cheeks. I made my way to his ear and whispered, “Harry. Wake up,” at first there was no response. Then I started nibbling and kissing his ear. “Wake up baby,” I whispered. He groaned and wrapped his arm around me and pulled me closer to him.

“I don't wanna,” he shook his head and I giggled.

“If you get up now, I'll make you breakfast.” He didn't say anything. “Please get up,” I said, “do it for me.”

He sighed and said, “fine. Only because you're beautiful,” Harry opened his eyes and I smiled.

“Thank you,” I kissed him. “Now what do you want for breakfast?” I asked.

“Um, I don't know. Anything,” he said.

“How about chocolate chip pancakes?” Once I asked him, his face lit up.

“You got it,” I laughed.

“Carry me!” He whined. At first, I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't. I've given Nico piggy back rides before, so this shouldn't be that difficult.

“Fine! Get on my shoulders.”

“Wait really?” He looked surprised.

“Yeah, now hurry up before I changed my mind.” I said, before I knew it, Harry was wrapped around me and I was up and walking. He was laughing the whole time.

“I can't believe my girlfriend is giving me a piggy back ride,”

“Do you underestimate my abilities?” I joked.

“Not anymore,” He laughed.

“Good answer,” we walked inside to see everyone sitting in the kitchen, staring at us. “Hey guys,” I said, putting Harry down.

“So you guys had an interesting evening.” Louis said, “getting freaky outside?” He said under his breath.

“Lou we've only been dating for a day,” Harry said.

“That doesn't mean a thing when you're in love! Now make breakfast, we're hungry.” Louis pounded his fist on the table. I laughed and Harry got out the stuff for pancakes.

“How many am I making?” I asked.

“I want five,” Harry said.

“Six,” Zayn said.

“Five,” Louis and Liam called out.

“Eight!” Niall yelled.

“Eight!?” I looked at him, he laughed.

“I'm hungry!” He said.

“Lemme help you babe,” Harry grabbed my waist.

“No you go sit down and relax, I wanna cook for you.”

“Okay,” he smiled and kissed me on the lips quickly. The boys could not be more impatient to eat this morning. Every time I served a pancake, they devoured them in a matter of minutes, demanding more. I wound up making just over three dozen pancakes. Niall said they were the best chocolate chip pancakes he ever tasted, and demanded I make them whenever I came over. I laughed and agreed with him.

I had an hour before I had to leave for work, so Harry and I went up to his room and cuddled on his bed, watching TV. Harry spend a lot of his time kissing my neck and giving me love bites. “Just my present to you before you leave for work today,” he chuckled.

Before I knew it, my hour was up, and I went home and got dressed for work. I guess this was the worst possible thing I could be doing on a Monday. It was boring and it was the same old routine every day. The only reason I worked at the diner was because the tips here were really good, because vacationers didn't know how much to tip, so they always payed a lot. And because nobody else was hiring, trust me, if I had the opportunity to quit my job, I would. But I still had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, so I wasn't quitting until I had it all figured out. And I could financially support myself.

Only Mike was here today, I guess Jo Ann didn't feel like coming. I haven't had an actual conversation with Mike in a while. Until now...

“Hey Tess,” he said.

“Mike,” I didn't even give him the decency to look at him.

“I'm sorry about your mother the other day.”

“She's not my mother,” I said quietly.

“Tess she's right though, she is your mother, whether you like it or not.” I don't think he knew how furious this conversation gets me.

“She never was, nor will she ever be, my mother. And you're not my father. You're just the people that raised me for sixteen years. You failed to help me when you knew what was happening between me and Jo Ann. You knew how much Danielle and Michael hated me, but you still took their side on everything. You treated me like crap and you didn't even protest when Jo Ann kicked me out. You just watched me walked out the front door,” Mike just looked at me.

“I made the choices I made for the benefit of the family. So if that meant watching you leave, then that's what I did. I'm sorry.”

“Whatever,” I walked away from him and he just left the diner.

An hour went by, I just waited on tables the whole time. It was busy today, so I barely had time to breathe. That's when I got a little surprise.

Harry's car pulled into the parking lot and he walked inside. “Hey baby girl,” he kissed me.

“Hey! What are you doing here? You know you're not allowed to visit!” I smiled.

“What are they gonna do if I'm here? Call the police?” He winked. I just laughed and made him sit at the counter. A few girls went up to him for pictures and stuff, but other than that, he sat quietly drinking his chocolate milkshake. Sometimes he would help with orders, if things out too crazy, but other than that I stopped him from helping me work.

It was just nice to have him there, today was really stressful and I needed someone to keep me sane. I wonder what I'm going to do when he leaves...
