23. First Fight

*Harry's POV*

The lads and I were up late last night writing for the new album. They forgot about the time difference and didn't realize they were calling me at two in the morning. But I still stayed up late anyway, I missed them.

By the time I crawled into bed again, it was nearly seven in the morning. I was tired and cranky and I wanted sleep. Once I got under the covers, Tessa curled herself into me and I fell asleep instantly.

*Tessa's POV*

I woke up around ten, like I usually do. Harry was still sleeping, I could always tell because of his snoring.

“Wake up baby,” I whispered in Harry's ear and started kissing his face. His cheeks, his nose, his lips. I couldn't help but notice that he always smelled good... “Come on.” I said.

“I'm tired,” he groaned, turning away from me. That was weird, he never did that before.

“Then I'll just have to wake you up myself,” I giggled, leaping onto him.

“Get off,” he said, turning his face into the pillow.

“Come on babe! Get up!” I threw his pillow on the ground and laughed.

“Get off.”

“No, not until you-” all of the sudden, Harry threw me onto my side of the bed.

“I SAID GET OFF!” He yelled. “I'm tired! Leave me alone!” I felt my face starting to burn and my eyes watering up. Harry's never yelled at me before.

“What is your problem!?” I got up from the bed, Harry just rolled his eyes at me.

“My problem is that you're annoying! I'm trying to sleep!”

“Oh, you're right! I'm sorry for trying to wake up my boyfriend at ten in the morning!” I started walking out of the bedroom, not wanting to argue, but Harry followed me.

“If I say get off then get off, Tessa!” He yelled.

“Well if you're so goddamn tired then go back to bed Harry! Nobody's stopping you anymore!” I turned around, and went into our room again. I shut the door and locked it before Harry could follow me inside.

“Tessa, let me in!” He said, pounding on the door. I changed into tight shorts and a sports bra, making sure I had my iPod. I quickly threw my hair up into a pony tail and stormed out the bedroom and down the stairs.

“Where are you going?!” Harry said, following me.

“Running. I thought maybe I wouldn't be so annoying if I wasn't home. You got the day to yourself, so you can sleep all you want.”

“Is that what you're gonna do every time we fight then? You're just gonna run away from all your problems, just like you did with Nico, right?” He said coldly. Once those words left his mouth, I couldn't hold back tears any longer.

“I guess so,” I slammed the front door behind me, put my iPod on shuffle and started running.

*Harry's POV*

I regretted saying those words the moment they left my mouth. But it was too late now, Tessa was already out of sight by the time I opened the front door to apologize to her. A part of me knew she was wrong for this morning, but another part told me I over reacted. All that was left to do now was sit and wait until she comes back home.

I tried sleeping for a while, I did catch a few hours but not enough. Music was out of the question, I wanted to take a break from it. There were some good movies on TV, but not many, so I got bored of it quickly. Overall, after hours of indecision, I started calling my family and friends who I haven't spoken to in a while. My mum answered her phone on the first ring.

“Hello?”

“Hi mum!” I smiled.

“Hey baby! How are you?” Her voice lit up, you could tell my the way she talked.

“Good. How are you?”

“Fine. Gemma and I are making the final arrangements for her wedding. You and Tessa are still coming right?”

“Yeah! We actually just went shopping for her yesterday,” I smiled.

“Oh really? Did you find anything?”

“Yeah, I bought her a dress and a necklace. But the necklace is a surprise, she doesn't know I bought it yet.”

“Harry that was nice of you!”

“Yeah, I really love her mum.” I said.
“I know,” she laughed. “I can tell by the way you talk about her.” That made me smile.

“You're really gonna like her, Gemma is too.”

“Well don't be silly, Harry! Let me talk to her!”

“You can't.” I frowned.

“Why not?” She sounded surprised.

“We're kinda in our first fight right now, and she left the house to go running.”

“Awe baby, I'm sorry. Is everything okay?”

“Yeah, I'm gonna make it up to her when she gets home.”

“How?” She asked.

“Uhmm, I dunno. I haven't really thought about it honestly.” I shrugged my shoulders.

“Well I'm sure you'll figure something out. You've always been a romantic.”

“Thanks mum-” she cut me off.

“But if I were you, I would give her that necklace. Seems like a good way to say, 'I’m sorry' doesn't it?” She said.

“Yeah,” that was actually a really good idea. “I'm gonna go mum, I just got a really good idea.” I smiled.

“Alright, I hope everything works out.”

“It will. Love you mum, see you soon.”

“Love you too Harry.” I hung up the phone and looked at the clock. It was only four o'clock, the perfect amount of time to put my plan into motion.

*Tessa's POV*

I ran for a good hour straight. After realizing I was on a major highway, I started running to Ashley's house. I knew she would be home, she was always home on Sundays. And right now, I needed my best friend.

Luckily for me, she was home, and she didn't have anyone over.

“Can I come in?” I asked. My eyes were all puffy and red from crying.

“Of course! Is everything alright?” Ashley asked.

“Harry and I are fighting. Do you have ice cream?” I walked over to her freezer.

“You're in luck, I just bought some Half Baked. Why are you guys fighting?”

“I honestly don't know. He just woke up in a bad mood and I guess I did something to make him really mad, and now we're fighting.”

“Well it can't be that bad.” Ashley said, I walked over to her couch, she sat next to me.

“He told me I ran away from all my problems with Nico.” A tear fell down my face as I picked up a spoon and dug into the half baked. Ashley fell silent, at a complete loss for words. She just put her arm around me.

“I really thought things were going good between you guys...” She said.

“They were, other than what happened at the diner with me and Nico. Then out of nowhere he just flipped out on me.” I hated this, our first fight. It was terrible.

*Ashley's POV*

Tessa was here for over two hours, crying. I ran out of ice cream in less than forty five minutes. We talked about everything that's happened these past few days. Her fight with Harry, Nico's proposal, Mike and Jo Ann. If she got too upset to talk, Tessa would change the subject and make me talk about Kevin and I.

Even though it wasn't a good one, I missed talking to Tessa. We used to do this every time we hung out when we were in high school. I didn't want to tell her I was going out of state for college in a few months, I knew how upset it would make her. So I would just let that detail slip out when she's in a better mood. But the reality of it is, I'm going to miss her, a lot.

Tessa put her shoes on and was just about to walk out the door before I stopped her.

“I love you. Call me if you need anything,” I said giving her a hug.

“I love you too. Thanks for everything Ash.” She shut my door and took of running again.

Tessa really was the strongest person I knew...

*Tessa's POV*

Ed Sheeran would calm me down for the remainder of my run. My visit to Ashley's really helped, but nothing helped me more than music did. I put Sunburn on repeat and picked up my pace. It was going to be a good twenty minutes before I got home, and I wanted to take advantage of the silence I had. The sun was getting ready to fall, and the sky was a smoky pink color. I'm sure if I ran to the beach right now, I would get a breath taking view. But I can't do that right now.

Whether I liked to admit it or not, Harry was right. I did run from my problems, and it was time I learned to be strong and face them head on. So if was time to go home, even if it meant arguing.

As I crossed the street, I noticed Nico's car parked directly in front of me. He was staring at me with a pair of broken eyes, I could feel myself giving him the same look. When I reached the sidewalk, I mouthed the words, 'please understand' to him. Nico just looked away and started crying. I never thought we would come to an end like this. To be honest, I never even expected us to end. I always thought at the least, we would be friends until we were both six feet under. But I guess that wasn't the case anymore.

I had other priorities now. My relationship with Harry was important to me, and getting into a good college. And if things go well, I could study in England to be closer to Harry.

I dunno, all I know is, I need to make things right. Set my priorities straight, and make things right with Harry.

I picked up my pace to a full out sprint as I caught sight of my neighborhood. My heart beat was going faster than a race car, and my muscles ached. I changed the song on my iPod to a fast paced song. Jasey Rae by All Time Low came on. I was running out of oxygen in my lungs as my legs carried me at a pace I haven't ever gone before. I was breathing heavier and heavier as my house fell into my line of vision.

Was I ready to face Harry?

Should I apologize?

Should I hold my ground?
Should I even bring up the fight at all?

I would find out all the answers when I got inside. I stopped running when I made it to my driveway as an attempt to catch my breath. All the lights in the house were off, suggesting Harry was sleeping. I rolled my eyes and walked inside, not knowing what to expect for the rest of the night.
