Guilty till proven innocent. That's the motto here, here in South America, well everywhere really, though no one is ever proven innocent. No one has the money, or the connections, well that is unless you have family in the Governing Agency. So as a thirteen year old girl convicted of murder there wasn't much I could do...

1. The Way We Live

Guilty till proven innocent. That's the motto here, here in South America, well everywhere really, though no one is ever proven innocent. No one has the money, or the connections, well that is unless you have family in the Governing Agency. So as a thirteen year old girl convicted of murder there wasn't much I could do.    The reason that its the motto everywhere is because, in 2050 the continents signed a treaty to combine all. They kept their names but not their leaders. The leaders are now a group of thirty five pompous men, only leaders because they came up with the idea of the treaty. In order to get every continent to agree, many promises were made. Many were not kept. The first continent to agree was Africa, with promises of food and a better living arrangements they couldn't turn down. None of which had been sustained. Whereas Europe was reluctant, they were promised that the countries would be bailed out of the eurozone crisis, which for those countries was a relief. South America however was promised more police patrolling so we would feel safer. Although at the time things were not great, we didn't particularly need mor police patrols. Our governments at the time still decided it was best.    It took twenty years for everywhere to agree, but eventually they did. Even Asia who were the most reluctant. Now each continent is ruled by seven of their predecessors. They seem fair men at least, well most of them, none have used the death penalty. Yet. The only people possibly worse off are the people in Africa. We see stories in the global paper most days: Millions die due to lack of resources, Cries for help as water evaporates, and even; Feeble rebellion crushed by governing agency. Sometimes the governing agency can't do anything about these disasters, but sometimes they deprive them of what they need, just like they do to everyone, but not quite as bad. Which means casualties.    The governing agency meet every three months to discuss issues, and then,if needed, for a major crisis they collaborate. Like when there was a Asian food shortage, they managed to fly out enough food for the whole continent. What we are told of the meetings is not much, other than that all items discussed are for our benefit. This however few believe, due to the amount of money the governing agency earn. Those who don't believe what the governing agency do is for our benefit believe they tricked everyone, tricked everyone into thinking it would make a difference, instead it changed nothing. Those who aren't sure who to believe, like me, simply get on with our lives and hope for the best.
