Age is Just a Number

Caroline is a 15-year-old girl who likes One Direction, but isn't in love with them like the rest of her friends. When one of her friends takes the four of them to meet One Direction backstage, Caroline meets five boys who will change her life forever.

6. The Note

Harry's Point of View

I stood backstage with the boys waiting for the show to begin. I began to feel sick, partly because I'm always nervous before I perform, but also because of the uncertainty. Has she read the note? I wondered. What if she thought I was creepy? What if she didn't even like me? It wasn't like she was a big fan of One Direction. If she was, she would have jumped up and screamed like all the other girls. Louis came up and patted me on the back. He can always tell when I'm nauseous.

"What's up, mate?" he asked. "You don't look too good." "Nothing," I replied. "Just nerves." But he could tell that wasn't all. He's almost like a psychic or something. I guess it's just because the lads and I know each other so well. "But Harry, it can't be just nerves. I know what you look like when you get nervous for a performance. This is different," he protested, but I told him that it really was nothing. Before he could question me any further, we had to run out onto the stage. All the girls who had won tickets were sitting in the front row, so I looked for Caroline. I searched until I found her. She was on her phone, but when she saw that we were on stage, she put it away. She saw me staring at her, and her cheeks turned the same shade as her shirt. I sang most of the concert looking at her, hoping she wasn't too weirded out.

Caroline's Point of View

I sat surrounded by screaming girls in the front row at a One Direction concert. Weird. I pulled out my phone and tweeted it, but then quickly went to Angry Birds. I would beat Harry's high score if it killed me. I tried over and over again, but I hadn't seen how Harry had done it. I was so transfixed with his eyes...

Kayla yelled to me just as I was getting ready to launch another bird. "Caroline, they're on stage!" I quickly put up my phone. I'd have to beat it later. I looked up and saw Harry Styles right in front of me. I was looking at me, and when I met his eyes, he smiled. I could feel myself blush, and immediately hated it. I always blush, and I hate it. It made everything awkward, when it wouldn't have been if my face hadn't gone red.

Harry was looking at me most of the time he sang, so it felt as if he was singing to me. Normally I would be really creeped out, but for some reason I wasn't. It felt...natural. Is that weird?

Half way through the concert, Hannah moved next to me. "Is it just me, or is Harry looking at you a lot? I'm imagining that, right?" she asked. All I could do was slowly shake my head back and forth. I was lost in his eyes again. "You're not imagining anything," I said dreamily. Hannah's eyes widened, and she stepped back to talk to the other girls. Throughout the rest of the night as well as the ride home, they looked at me suspiciously, as if I had done something wrong. Oh well, I thought, they're just jealous.

Harry's Point of View

As we ran off the stage, I immediately knew that we had had a good concert, and that Caroline hadn't been weirded out. She had stared right back into my eyes. That's a good sign, right? At least I hoped it was. Unfortunately, Louis came running up to me.

"Really, Harry? What was the matter? And don't tell me nothing. I know it wasn't nothing. I've never seen you look that worried before," Lou said, a concerned look on his face. I thought a moment, and decided it would be alright to tell the boys. I mean, I share everything with them. But there were too many people around right then. "I'll tell you and the boys when we get back to the room," I assured him. "But, can I at least have a hint?" Louis whined. I rolled my eyes and whispered, "You know that last girl we signed a picture for? The one in jeans with the long golden brown hair and sparkly brown eyes?" Louis raised his eyebrows at me. Usually I don't describe everyday people like that...

"Yeah," he replied suspiciously. "Well," I said, "let's just say you were right about love at first sight." I walked away, but just before I did, I saw his eyes widen in disbelief.

Caroline's Point of View

I got home and immediately showered and changed into my pj's. Then I remembered the picture the boys had signed for me. I pulled it out and unfolded it. The boys had all signed by thier picture. They wrote as follows:

Zayn: Vas happenin, Caroline? I hope you enjoy the concert, and thanks for being a fan! We really love and appreciate you!

Niall: Thanks for coming to the show, Caroline! Big thanks for supporting us!

Liam: Thank you so much for coming Caroline! I hope you love the concert! Also, I love the outfit :) most girls we see are dressed know. It was a nice change!
