Central Heating

My first political poem, this is critical of centralisation by presenting a boy who complains he cannot feel the warmth his father feels downstairs.

1. Central Heating

O father dear, o father dear,

Can’st thou not hear me from up here?

O father dear, o father dear,

Turn up the heating for your child!

Ten chimneys, yet one fire.

To sleep warm in my bed

Is this night my desire.

Bugs stay the chimney instead!

Well my child, well my dear young child!

Work thine way to mine fire, my child!

Take leave of thine bed, here instead!

Or stay thee chilled for all the night, young child.
