Our Queen

I wrote this to coincide with the Queen's Diamond Jubille earlier this year. It's a summary of the Queen's life and reign but it's possible I might have missed out on some facts. Any critiques would be appreciated!

5. Ode to the Queen

When the crows leave the Tower of London,

I’ll remember what has been

Nostalgically, happily

I’ll remember our Diamond Queen

For when the monarchy crumbles,

And lays solemnly in its tomb

I’ll remember the Queen greeting children,

And receiving flowers in bloom

When St Edward’s crown lay on her head,

The world watched with bated breath

Not disappointed with the Queen they appointed,

And will lament the day of her death

So, God save the Queen!

Long live her kindly soul!

And may the Union Jack forevermore

Fly horizontal from a pole!

For when the crows leave the Tower of London,

I’ll remember what has been

But what I think I’ll miss most of all

Is the guidance of our Diamond Queen.
