Everything About You

Emily isn't very popular. The kids at school avoid her because of some stupid rumor her ex spread. Then Emily meets Liam. Liam helps her forget everything and soon her life becomes his.

3. Mum

I walked along the halls and headed towards my locker. I shoved my backpack into it and shut it. I looked down the hall and saw Liam heading towards me. Over the past week we had spent everyday after school together. He was my best friend now and I could tell him anything. He sincerely seemed like he cared. Liam walked up to me and smiled and gave me hug.

"Hey Em's," he said

"Hey Liam. Ready to go?" I asked as I pulled out my car keys.

"Actually I wanted to ask you something," Liam said looking down at the ground. I had learned that he looked down when he was nervous. Liam was actually quite shy around other people. He was like me; I'm quiet until you get to know me, then I'm a lot of fun. Liam was the same way.

"Yea, whats up?" I asked as we started walking down the hall.

"Um, can we go to your house today?" I stopped walking. We had gone to Liam's house everyday after school and for good reasons. I didn't want him to see where I lived.

"Why?" I asked looking up at him.

"Well it's just that my sisters are coming home from college to spend a few days and they tend to embarrass me. I just don't want you to meet them just yet." I looked around and wondered what I was going to say to him. I never brought anyone home from school. I looked up at Liam's face and he gave me this sad little puppy dog look. "Please." Liam asked getting down into my face.

"Alright!" I caved, "but I'm gonna warn you. It's not in the best part of London,'

"Yes!" Liam cheered as we continued walking down the hall.

I pulled into the only open parking spot in front of the drug store and got out. Liam got out also and looked at me.

"Why are we here?" he asked.

"This is where I live. Above the drug store," I clarified.  Liam nodded his head and looked up at the building. I grabbed my bag and walked up the dark and narrow hallway that was on the side of the drug store. At the top was a large wooden door with pealing paint. I pulled out a key and stuck it into the lock. I turned it until I heard a click. I opened up the door and led Liam in.

The living room was probably the largest part of the whole flat. A semi-large brown couch . In the middle of the room was a small rabbit eared tv. A door was on the wall behind the tv. I opened the door to reveal my closet like room. All that was in the room was my small unmade bed, a small dresser with cloths spilling out, and a small table that was covered in homework and books. Liam looked around the small cramped room then looked at me and smiled.

"Well its not that bad!" he laughed. He stopped when he heard a gun shot below. We both jumped and I fell to the ground and moved below the window.

"Get down" I hissed as I motioned him over to me.

"Whats going on?" he whispered.

"There's a shooting. It happens quite a lot so I'm used to them."

"Why are we down on the ground? Shouldn't we call the police or anything?"

"This part of town is too dangerous for the cops. They won't come down this street, so the only thing that we can do is to get below a window so if a bullet comes threw the window it won't hit us," I explained. Liam nodded his head and I could tell he was scared. "I'm sorry about bringing you here," I whispered grabbing his hand. Liam smiled at me.

"It's alright," he said as he moved closer to me. We sat there for maybe 5 minutes until the gun shoots stopped. I stood up and looked out the window. Nothing. I walked out of my room and Liam followed. I led him into the kitchen that was just off of the living room. It was about the same size as the living room , probably a tad smaller; with a small fridge and only a few cupboards and a small table that could only seat two, it was still cramped. I opened up a cupboard and pulled out a bag of crisps.

"So where are your parents?" Liam asked as we walked back into my room.

"Well um, its mostly just me," I admitted. "My dad flaked out and my mum is always working to pay for rent and her alcohol,"

"Oh," Liam said. "I'm sorry." I shrugged. I was tired of people telling me they were sorry for me. I looked down and played with the sleeve of my shirt. Liam saw my fidgeting. "What wrong?" he asked as he turned towards me.

"Its nothing," I said quietly. I jolted my head up when I heard the front door close. I stood up and held up my hand to let Liam know to stay where he was. I walked out of my room and tiptoed into the kitchen where I heard some banging.

"Mum!" I yelled as I entered the kitchen. She turned around. Her long brown hair was pulled into a messy ponytail and I could tell it was dirty. She looked sick. "What are you doing here?" I asked.

"I have a right to be in my apartment!" she yelled. "And what about you? What are you doing here, you've been gone the past few nights."

"Like you would even care," I mumbled and she shot me an evil look. She broke her gaze and looked at something behind me. I turned around to see Liam. He smiled at my mom.

"Hello mam," Liam said.

"Whose this!?" My mom yelled. "I come home to find you with a boy in your room!"

"Mum this is my friend Liam," I said quietly.

"I don't care who he is! He could me the stupid Queen and I wouldn't give a..." she swore, I could feel the tears coming to my eyes and I grabbed Liam's hand and pulled him out the door. I raced down the narrow steps and got into my car.  I slammed the door shut and laid my head on the steering wheel and just let the tears flow down my cheeks. Liam opened up the door and slid in next to me. I felt him lay his hand on my back.

"It's ok Em's," he whispered over and over again. I sobbed and looked up at him. I wiped the tears off of my face and smiled at him.

"Thank you," I whispered. Liam smiled at me. "I'll take you home." I said as I started the car.
