I Will Always Love You

Ellie Crave is a seventeen year old girl. Her father ran away when her mum got pregnant and her mother died when she gave birth. She lived in an orphanage until she was fifteen. She didn’t have any friends and nobody would give her any attention because she had cancer and they thought it was worthless to take care of her as she would die before she even turned eighteen. But she was strong. She didn’t get mad at the others for not helping her. She didn’t get mad at the world for giving her this horrible disease. Instead she learned from it. When she got away from the orphanage, she went to a home that took care of sick children like her. She wouldn’t just help there, but she would be their friend. And she would give them something they never received. Or at least she didn’t allow herself to receive. Until she met a guy, who changed the rest of the life she had left forever. He gave her LOVE.

2. Be Somebody

“I want to be somebody
I want to make a difference”

-Paula Cole

A normal day for Ellie. She woke up at 7:30. Took a shower, dressed up, ate breakfast, and brushed her teeth and her hair. She didn’t wear any make up as she didn’t consider it worth the little time that was left for her in this world. At 8:30 she was already at the Dawson’s Children Care Home. When she arrived the whole room lit up. Everyone welcomed her to another day of playing and talking. Everyone liked Ellie very much. Not only the children but also the nurses and the doctor who worked there appreciated her company too. How wouldn’t they? She was the sweetest girl that has ever existed on earth. And you don’t expect a girl like Ellie, after all she’s been through, to be like that. It’s as if she didn’t care that very soon she would be leaving this world. Or maybe she had only just accepted it. She knew it was something she couldn’t change. Not all the money in the world could save her. Nothing. Absolutely nothing to do. Just wait and hope for the days to go on slowly so that she would stay as long as she could. She lived her life as if there wasn’t an end. As if she wasn’t really going to die. And at night, just before leaving the home to come back the next day, she would take her guitar and sing. All the children, all the nurses and the doctor gathered around her as she sung. A different song every night. And when she sang, everyone would fall silent. She had the voice of an angel. No one dared to interrupt her. They would get lost in her sweet perfect voice and let it carry them to their deepest thoughts. Many cried with her lyrics. Many cried with her melody. Many cried with her beat. But she didn’t. Not once anyone had seen her cry. And then, she would just wave a goodbye and a see you tomorrow to everyone and leave.

“I’m scared” said Lucy. Lucy was a seven year old whose cancer wasn’t going to let her make the night. “I don’t want to leave. I want to stay here with you” her eyes were red from crying, and she wouldn’t stop.

“Shhh baby, don’t be” I whispered softly in her ear as I hugged her. “He’s waiting for you, you know? Up there?”

She looked up at me “What if He doesn’t like me?”

“Don’t be silly, of course he will. Why wouldn’t he? Have you done anything wrong I should know about?”

She shook her head “I’m just scared. I want to be with you. You are very nice to me.”

“He’s even nicer. Trust me; you’ll love it up there.”

“I’m gonna miss you”

“Not for long, I’m gonna be there with you in a few months” I smiled and I could see a little smile form on her lips too.

“And I’ll be waiting for you” she laughed “Ellie…”

“Yes honey?” I looked into her deep hazel eyes for the last time now.

“Why are you doing this?” she asked.

“Doing what?” I stared at her confused.

“This. Why do you come here? With sick kids like me that die every day? You could be out there as you’re still strong enough to be. Enjoy the breeze, the sun, the animals…maybe even get a boyfriend”

I giggled. “You want to know why? Come, its 9:30 p.m. already. I’ll show you”

We went into the dining room. I pushed her in her wheel chair and placed her with the rest of the kids that were already gathered in a circle around a chair they had put there for me to sit. I grabbed my guitar, closed my eyes and started playing.

I want to be somebody
I want to make a difference

Little boy caught in a drive-by

Witnessed the killer who made his daddy die,
And 'cause he identified and signed the dotted line,
He could feel it in his stomach, he signed away his life
Little boy who once was the leader of his class
The little source of joy, always neatly dressed
Now would hang his head and be left crying at his desk,
Was found with his mother, lying in her lap
With two bullets in his chest

And as I sang I looked into Lucy’s eyes.

And,oh my god, what is this madness?
I will not let it kill by gladness
And,oh my god, what is this madness?
My joy inside will send this message

I want to be somebody
I want to make a difference,
For we all are the children of the Mother
I want to be somebody
I want to make a difference,
For we all are the children of the Father

I could see her smiling, and her eyes filling with water.

Outspoken man, leading sisters and brothers,
Picked himself up from hustling, drugs and gutters
Doing time on the inside, he found a higher power
Now, back with a mission to help us help each other

Respected from bourgeoisie to homeless in the street
From universities, Africa, the Middle East
And through the threats of death he spoke truth and set men free
But the power of the truth made enemies of the weak
He was killed by his own people

And so she started crying, and I smiled at her.

And, oh my god, what is this madness?
I will not let it kill my gladness
And, oh my god, what is this madness?
My joy inside will send this message

I want to be somebody
I want to make a difference,
For we all are the children of the Mother
I want to be somebody
I want to make a difference
for we all are children

Ignite This Fire inside, this light that is the Truth
Shake off the system's chains, no longer be their fool
In the face of brutality, show the other cheek
Trigger-happy policing will never kill our dignity

And,oh my god, what is this madness?
I will not let it kill my gladness
And, oh my god, what is this madness?
My joy inside will send this message

Lift up your heart and See
Open your heart and See
Lift up your voice and Sing...

I want to be somebody

I want to make a difference,
For we all are the children of the Mother
I want to be somebody
I want to make a difference,

For we all are the children of the Father.

And when I finished, as I was leaving I turned around, to look one last time at her beautiful face, her hazel eyes, her brown caramel hair. And she gave me a nod, as if saying she now understood the reason why I did what I did. I smiled back at her and walked away.
