Louis Doesn't Have To Know

Sophie Ayers never intended on meeting Louis, yet she was so thankful that she did. He showed her what it was to love, and how it was to BE loved. He healed her broken heart, and did it with that gorgeous smile on his face. But when Danielle and Liam break up and Sophie goes to comfort him, he tells Sophie it was because Danielle suspected him of having feelings for HER...and that his ex girlfriend wasn't wrong. Sophie soon finds herself caught in an addictive web of lies, schemes, and cheating. She falls in love with BOTH One Direction boys, and is unable to choose one over the other. Liam has an idea though: Louis doesn't have to know...right?

12. Digging the Grave

2 weeks after 'The Incident' at Liam's flat, in Louis' car, 11:46 a.m.:

Sophie leaned her head against the car window and watched the world race by. Whatever they passed was gone in a second, and she found herself being jealous. Why couldn't she just drive by her mistakes, and leave them all behind, forgetting they were even there? Ever since The Incident, all she had done was lie, lie, and lie. She'd told Louis that she didn't know anything about the Danielle and Liam breakup, and she was so surprised, and so sorry for him, and sure she didn't mind him being over at Liam's place a lot more often than usual. It made her sick to her stomach to know that she was bold faced lying to Louis, but what could she do? Telling the truth was damn well sure not an option.

She turned her head towards the driver's seat to see Louis being adorable like always. He was wearing a red beanie with his hair pushed back, a grey hoodie with the strings tied together in a bow at the middle like he always did, with a white concert tee underneath. He also had on the same red sweatpants that she had worn the night of The Incident, which she quickly pushed away from her mind.

Louis glanced at her out of the corner of his eye and chuckled. "Take a picture, it'll last longer" he said cheekily, with a wink. She just stuck her tongue out at him, making him laugh yet again. She turned in her seat to lean her back against the door, her knees tucked up into her chest.

"When are we going to be there?"

Louis leaned forward and checked the GPS. "Uh, about twenty minutes" he said before turning back to the road. He was driving painfully slow, but she didn't dare say anything, as his slow driving usually became a topic of arguement for them.

They were on their way back to his hometown, Doncaster, where the band was hosting a big charity function that would be going on for a few days. Louis was also going to introduce Sophie to his family, which he was very excited about. They'd come out to the media when she'd decided to move to England with him almost two months ago, and his mother and sisters had yet to meet the love of his life.

Sophie just nodded and kept looking at him. He was so adorable, and he didn't even know it. She was so lucky and so...undeserving.

"Hey babe I have a question" he said suddenly, interrupting her pitiful thoughts.

She perked up at this. "What is it?"

"Well uh..." he began, "It's about Liam."

Sophie paled, and stopped breathing. She looked away from him, scared to death that he knew somehow. Had Liam opened his mouth and said something? She would kill him if he had. Sophie had stayed as far away from Liam as possible since that night, afraid she would give something away. She had said maybe three words to him since then, and always managed to find an excuse to leave the room when he entered it.

"Um, what about Liam?" She tried to say this coolly and detatched, but it came out squeaky and weird. If Louis noticed it, he elected to ignore it - which she was thankful for.

"It's just that you seem to be avoiding him lately love. I know he's been really torn up about the breakup lately, and I know you guys aren't that close, but he could really use you right now. If you're avoiding him because you don't want to flaunt our relationship in his face, you don't have to worry about it. He's tougher than you think, I promise." He glanced at her quickly and seriously, then looked back to the road, awaiting a response.

So that's what he thinks it is, Sophie thought to herself. Louis figured that she was avoiding Liam in thinking that she was going to hurt his feelings by being in such a happy relationship. This, she could work with.

"Erm, yeah that's what it was. I'm sorry, I just don't want to indirectly hurt him any more than he already is, you know?"

Lie.

"Don't worry about that love, he's tough. Have you said anything at all to him about the breakup?"

"No, not yet."

Lie.

"Oh okay. Well do you think you could talk to him maybe? He's only really vented to us boys, and I think he needs a woman's perspective other than his mum and sister, you know? I think it would help, and I also think he wants to talk you about it. Can you do that for me love?"

"Yeah, sure. I'll gladly talk with him."

LIE. She was digging herself a grave with all of the lies, she could just feel it. Was this horrible nightmare ever going to go away? Definitely not.

Louis smiled at her and reached his free hand from the wheel to place on her knee and give it a reassuring squeeze. "Thanks babe. I really think it would help get his spirits up."

Oh something will be getting up alright...she mused to herself, but quickly shook the thought away, amazed at her own internal crudeness.

She put her own hand over Louis' warm one out of instinct and looked back out the front window of the sleek black sports car they were in. She was going to have to speak to Liam just to placate Louis and the rest of the band now, without giving away anything related to The Incident. How was she--

"Hey how about you and Liam take our dinner reservations at the Golden Eagle tonight? We can go out tomorrow night instead, and you two can catch up and talk about the whole breakup situation." Louis suddenly suggested cheerfully.

"Sure." Sophie replied. She'd officially finished digging the grave, now she was diving headfirst into it.
