Louis Doesn't Have To Know

Sophie Ayers never intended on meeting Louis, yet she was so thankful that she did. He showed her what it was to love, and how it was to BE loved. He healed her broken heart, and did it with that gorgeous smile on his face. But when Danielle and Liam break up and Sophie goes to comfort him, he tells Sophie it was because Danielle suspected him of having feelings for HER...and that his ex girlfriend wasn't wrong. Sophie soon finds herself caught in an addictive web of lies, schemes, and cheating. She falls in love with BOTH One Direction boys, and is unable to choose one over the other. 21. Birthday Morning

February 2013, London, Louis' flat, 7:25 a.m.:

"Sophie...Sophie wake up..."

Sophie growled at Louis, annoyed that he sounded so cheerful at what was presumably an ungodly morning hour. She kept her face buried in the pillow, hoping he would take the hint and let her sleep. She had no such luck though.

"Sophie babe, come on, get up!" Now Louis was bouncing up and down on the bed, disrupting her rest even more. Without opening her eyes or looking up at her doting boyfriend, she menacingly hissed, "If you try to wake me up one more fucking time Louis, I'll kill you I swear"

Louis just threw his head back and laughed, Sophie was always a major grump in the morning, and he usually loved to let her sleep in, but today was different. Today was special, but more so to him than to her.

Louis jumped off the bed and left the room wordlessly and Sophie let out a sigh of relief, settling back into the warm comforter. She didn't hear him creep down the hall and gesture the four other waiting boys back to his room with him. She also didn't hear the water sloshing around in the bucket Niall was carrying.

The five boys tiptoed into the bedroom, desperately trying to hold back the giggles, of which Harry was having the most difficulty with. They each took their places around the queen sized bed, and looked at each other mischeivously.

Louis held up his hand for the countdown and wordlessly mouthed, "On three. One...two..."

Before Louis could even hold up his third finger, Niall shouted out, "THREE!" and threw the icy cold water all over Sophie, making the boys break down in hysterics.

Sophie squealed and jumped up in the bed, throwing her hands out to try and hit something, spitting and sputtering water everywhere. She was wearing a pair of Louis' boxars and a white tanktop on, but thankfully had on a black bra, so the boys didn't get too much of an eyeful since her clothes were soaked through.

"WHAT THE FUCK?!" she yelled out instinctively, not knowing what was going on or why she was soaked in freezing cold water. As she sat up in the bed, she wiped away the water from her face and opened her eyes to see who the culprits were.

At this point, Louis and Niall were on the ground rolling in laughter and holding their stomachs. Liam and Harry were leaned up against opposite walls doubled over in hysterics, and Zayn was sitting in a chair holding his face and wiping away tears that had been induced by his laughter as well.

"You...shoulda...seen...your face!" Niall managed to gasp out in between his signature Horan giggles.

Sophie threw the comforter off of her, and stood up furiously. She was rubbing her arms with her hands, trying to warm up since she was now chilled to the bone. "Y-y-you boys are a b-bunch of d-d-douchebags" she managed to stutter out as her teeth chattered, "Get the f-f-fuck out of h-here". She managed to point a finger to the door and very slowly began walking towards the bathroom, dying to get in a warm shower, but since her joints were so frozen she couldn't get anywhere very fast no matter how badly she wanted to.

Louis managed to tone down his laughter a little bit, and stood up from the ground. He made his way over to her, holding out a comforting hand and sincerely saying in between chuckles, "I'm sorry babe, but we had to get you up!"

At that, Sophie whipped her head around to him violently, to which his laughter - along with the other boys' - ceased immediately. She looked absolutely furious.

She stepped up so close to Louis that he could see the water droplets on her eyelashes. She hissed one word, and he wasn't afraid to admit that it scared him a little bit.

"Why?"

Even in her angry state, Louis took a minute to appreciate her bright hazel eyes and long eyelashes, her sandy blonde hair was dripping wet and stuck to her face, yet she was still beautiful. She was his beauty, and his alone...so he believed.

Louis hesitated with his answer, opening his mouth, but no words coming out. Finally, Zayn sat up straighter in his chair and very matter-of-factly stating, "Come on Soph, like we would forget your birthday!"

At the mention of her birthday, Sophie whipped her head around towards Zayn so fast that her wet hair hit Louis full on in the face. He stepped back from the wet girl, sputtering and wiping his face as Niall and Harry started laughing again.

Soph stared at Zayn angrily and he leaned back in the chair with a surprised expression. None of the boys expected her to be angry at the mention of her birthday. They expected quite the contrary, actually.

The upset birthday girl turned once again and looked at everyone in the room, her eyes especially lingering on Liam and Louis. She rolled her eyes and shook her head, saying, "I'm going to take a shower, and none of you idiots are going to mention my birthday again. Got it?"

The boys looked at each other in surprise and before they could ask questions, Sophie stormed off into the bathroom and slammed the door shut.

As all the boys began asking questions about Sophie's odd behavior, both Louis and Liam found themselves thinking,

"What's wrong with my girl?"

************************************

As Sophie undressed and stepped into the shower, her teeth chattering slowed down and she was able to take a deep, calming breath.

Sophie hated her birthday - she always had - but this year was especially dreadful in her mind. She didn't want to celebrate growing older; she didn't want to think about the fact that she had officially made it twenty years of royally screwing up her life. This year for her birthday, she could reflect on the fact that she was now officially cheating on her internationally famous boyfriend with yet another internationally famous boy, who just so happened to be her boyfriend's best friend and bandmate.

Just lovely.

Speaking of Liam, he and Sophie had managed to meet up nine times in the three week time span from their encounter in the empty manager's office at the concert hall.

The first few times they got together it was completely unplanned and over much too fast.

The first time was when Liam saw her walking down the hallway at a recording studio and he'd grabbed her hand and pulled her into a broom closet. They didn't have any form of sex, he just held her and kissed her hard, telling her how beautiful she was and how it was killing him not to hold her in public. Nothing about Louis was said.

The third time was when Sophie and all the boys, along with Perrie and Andy, went out to an Ed Sheeran concert. Sophie excused herself to the restroom and as she passed Liam, she touched his arm and gave him a silent invitation with a seductive look. They snuck out a side door to a deserted alleyway where they had an encounter much like the one in the park in Doncaster. Nothing about Louis was said.

After the fourth or fifth time of having these spontaneous encounters that had to be cut off much too early for their liking, they began to coordinate. Whenever the band had a night off from a gig or a public appearance, Sophie would wait until Louis was asleep then sneak over to Liam's flat. During the day one time, Sophie told Louis she was going shopping, and Liam picked her up three blocks away, where they just drove around for four or five hours. They talked and laughed, and yes, they parked behind a building and made out for a good while. Nothing about Louis was said.

Not all of these secret get-togethers were about physical attraction. One of the nights that Sophie snuck over to Liam's house, they just sat on the floor in front of the fireplace, telling childhood stories. He pulled out his guitar and played her his new song, and she sketched him. It was nice, for the both of them. Nothing about Louis was said.

Contrary to what Sophie had expected, her relationship with Louis wasn't suffering at all. Actually, it was quite the opposite, they were better than ever. Since she felt so guilty for her actions (yet was making no effort to rectify them in any way), Sophie made sure to give Louis extra time and affection so that she felt justified in her actions, and also so that he wouldn't become suspicious in any way.

Sophie had also expected her feelings for Louis to start fading, but they never did. She was still positive of her love for him, and made sure to express this love to him several nights of the week. Which was another reason that she had been unable to bring up sex to Liam, feeling it the ultimate betrayal to her boyfriend. She couldn't deny though that she desperately wanted to be with Liam in that way. Even though what they were doing was wrong, she felt so complete when she was with him. She felt complete when she was with both Louis and Liam. It wasn't like she could pick one boy that she cared about more than the other. They had each taken a piece of her heart.

So as Sophie stood in the shower with hot tears mixing in with the water from the showerhead, she couldn't help but wonder to herself,

How much more screwed up will I be on my twenty first birthday if I'm already hurting the man that I love by cheating on him with his best friend, and all the while being unable to choose one over the other, on my twentieth birthday?
