"Keep your friends close and your enemies closer"

There were too many possibilities how Amber's hair could have made it on my clothing. For one, she had spent the night in my room. But it also could have come from Macy and or Kyle. I was in no position to be accusing people but I had to put the evidence together. It was the end of classes and I was in my dorm alone, analyzing the events from earlier this morning.

Macy had been my first suspect. She had it in for Amber and it could have been in her best interest to get rid of Amber.

Then there was Kyle, my second suspect. He had carried me the entire way home which Amber's hair could have easily fallen into my possession.

I replayed the night Amber was taken over in my head. Had I noticed anything suspicious or out of the ordinary when I came home? Other than Amber's disappearance, I couldn't think of anything.

I did remember the empty feeling I had inside me though. I had been ditched earlier that night and I couldn't stand another person in my life leaving me. Being ditched at this school was very unusual for me. I mean, if you look back at my first few parties, I had been ditched a lot, by Rhi, the first time and by Colton, the second. But if Jerk-off got the chance, that he had, he wouldn't have passed me up. So where did he go?

I could now cross safely cross Macy off my list. I had been with her the entire night. She wouldn't have had the chance to do anything. At least I didn't think so.

And as for Kyle, well, things wern't looking too good for him right now. Too bad, I was starting to like him after all. I knew I shouldn't have given him a chance.

But if Kyle did take Amber, then something was still missing; why? Why the hell would Kyle have any interest in taking Amber?

I decided that the best thing to do right now was to keep this all to myself. I felt it was my responsibility to find Amber because she was in my dorm room. Her being taken was all my fault. It should have been me.

Well if I was going to find her, I was going to have to take risks, which meant I had to get closer to my suspect.

I decided to call Kyle.

I scrolled through my phone contacts until I found Kyle's. No, I did not ask for his number, he forcefully added it into my phone. Don't ask me why I didn't delete it, I just didn't bother.

He finally picked up after three rings.

"Well, well I never thought I'd see your number on my caller ID."

"Well believe it. It's me." I had to be nice. I couldn't give him any reason to be suspicious of me. He can't know I'm on to him. "What are you up to?"

"Just got in. I've been...out," he hesitated.

Yeah, out kidnapping teenage girls.

"Cool. So uh, I was wondering-"

"Kirssy Evans. Are you asking me out?" I could hear clear amusement in his voice. I could piratically see the smirk on his face through the phone. That cocky, arrogant, asshole smirk. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea but I had to do it.

"And if I was?" I didn't want to be obvious.

"Then I would be shocked and tell you to be ready for six tonight for when I pick you up."

"Yeah? Where are we going?"

"Oh so it is a date. And secret, you'll find out."

I stiffened. I needed to know where we were going. I couldn't afford to be alone with him, I needed a public area.

"First of all, it's not a date, just two friends hanging out and second, you know I hate surprises," I pressed.

He chuckled on the other end. "Call it what you want, but be ready by six."

I knew I had to go even if he wouldn't tell me. I owed it to Amber. "Fine." I gave a dramatic sigh.

"See you then, Baby Girl." With that he hung up.

"No one calls me Baby Girl!" I yelled into the phone, even though I knew he didn't hear me.

I gave another loud sigh as I hung up the phone and collapsed my head in my hands.

"Not even me?" a soft voice came from behind me.

I stood up and slowly turned around. Then I saw him. I couldn't believe my own eyes which is why I had to rub them twice to make sure I wasn't dreaming. No, it was true.

Colton Flynn stood before me in my open doorway.

"Colton!" I screamed.

I ran to him and jumped into his arms. He caught me and wrapped his strong arms around me tightly. I held onto him, never wanting to let him go. I couldn't lose him again, not ever again.

He pulled away and I whimpered. Then he took my face in his hands and started to kiss every single inch of my face before his placed his lips on mine.

I kissed him back forcefully, our lips moving in sync.

"God, I forgot how much I love you, Baby Girl," he said in a husky voice once he pulled away.

I was still in shock with his being here. "What, how, when, why, who-" I stumbled through my questions.

He chuckled and a smile spread across his face. Damn! I forgot how much I love his smile!

"I woke up four days ago. They told me I'd been shot and in a coma for a few months. I'd asked them where you were but they didn't know who I was talking about. I thought you'd forgotten about me. Then one of the nurses told me about a girl who'd visited me almost everyday in the hospital. She told me she kept tabs on you and told me that she'd seen you coming from here. So I discharged myself from the hospital as fast as I could and asked some of the girls around here where you were. And here I am."

I smiled up at him and he pulled me close again.

"I didn't know if you were ever going to wake up," I sniffled. Tears filled in my eyes but I wouldn't let them fall.

"Hey don't cry." He lifted my chin up so my eyes reached his. "I'm here now."

"I know, I've missed you so much."

"I've missed you too," he said, kissing the top of my head.

"Hey, did I hear you say that you're going on a date?" He raised his eyebrow suspiciously and his voice had an edge to it.

I shook my head viciously. I needed to explain myself, I didn't want Colton to get the wrong idea.

"No. It's's a long story."

"You can tell me in the car."

The car?

"Wait, what?"

He pulled on my arm and tugged me towards my closet. "Yes we have to get you packed, Baby Girl. I can take you away from this hell hole. We can be together like we planned. I need to get away from my mom and you need to get away from your dad."

I pulled my wrist from his grip and shook my head.

"Krissy? What's wrong? Do you not want to come away with me?" His face dropped.

"No, of course I do, Colton! But I can't, not now. Let's just say a friend needs my help."

I sat us both down at the edge of my bed as I started to explain everything. Who Kyle and Macy were, what happened to Amber and everything at the dance. He sat patiently, holding my hand and looking into my eyes then entire time. He frowned and smiled and ended in shock when I told him there was a kidnapper on the loose.

"Okay," he started, "I don't know why you told me all that because it just gave you another reason to leave this place."

"I told you, I can't leave Amber like this. It's my fault, Colton. It's all my fault." Tears formed in my eyes again. God, I was so damn weak!

He pulled me into his arms again and rubbed me gently on the back. "Don't say that, Baby Girl, it was not your fault. You didn't take her."

"Maybe not but I still owe it to her."

He pulled out of our embrace and looked back at me. He stared at my face like he was examining me. Then he smiled and nodded in agreement.

"Okay, Baby Girl. What's your plan?"

"Well I have to find out more about Kyle to gain more evidence. So that means I have to go out with him tonight and-"

Colton stood up dramatically and cut me off. "No way! No way in hell am I going to let you wander off with a psychotic kidnapper!"

"Calm down, Lover Boy. I've learned to handle myself without you, I can do again."

"So you don't need me then, I'm useless to you," he said sadly.

"That's not what I meant-"

"Yes it is! You're fine without me, right?"

He stayed standing, looking down at me sitting on the bed. He ran his finger through his hair, looking stressed.

"No Colton! I need you! Don't you dare leave me again!"

He sighed and looked at me.

"I won't. I promise. You're stuck with me now."

My body immediately relaxed and I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding. I don't know what I would do if lost him again.

"But I'm still not letting you go with that asshole!"

"Fine. What if you come with me?"

"But you said he can't know who I am. Isn't that part of your plan?"

"He won't because he won't meet you. Follow us. He'll be here at six to pick me up and then you can follow behind us and keep an eye on me. You know if you're really that worried."

"It's not you I don't trust, it's that prick!"

I stood up to meet his eyes. I wrapped my arms around his neck and tangled my finger in his hair. This is what I'd missed the most. Our perfect moments. I let in a deep breath and smelled in his scent; spearmint and hospital. I could work with it.

"With you, I'll be completely safe." I tried to reassure him but he didn't look too convinced. All that covered his face was worry.

Time was ticking and I anxiously waited for Kyle to come within an hour. Colton had demanded that he'd come and be watching the entire time and I really didn't have any problem with that. I really couldn't believe he was back.

Colton and I had both agreed that once all this was over and well again, we would be out of here. But in the meantime, he would secretly be staying with me. Not even Macy would know.

Colton went through my closet picking out my outfit for tonight. That was another condition, that he chose what I would wear.

"Here," he said, handing me a pile of clothes.

I held them out to see what he'd chose. A purple turtle neck and track pants.

"Really?" I glared at him.

He chuckled and nodded.

"Nice try." I shook my head disapprovingly and trudged back to my closet. I pulled out a pair of dark skinny jeans and a simple red blouse. I wasn't going to let Colton allow me look like a slob having a lazy day. My plan would never work that way, so I chose a nicer outfit but nothing that would hurt Colton.

He sighed. "Fine." Then he looked down at me expectantly.

I raised me eyebrow. "What?"

"Go on, get changed." A wicked smirk plastered on his face.

"Right here?"

He gave a long nod.

"Again," I patted his shoulder, "nice try." I chuckled and made my way to the bathroom but I was too slow shutting the door behind me. Colton ran in with me, locked the door behind him, then stood himself in front of the door.

I groaned. "Colton, leave."

He shook his head, "Not happening, Baby Girl."

I pushed on his chest but he just held my wrists to his chest with one hand then pulled me to him by the waist with the other. I went up on my tippy-toes and placed my lips against his. I dropped the clothes I was holding and wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer to me.

His tongue traced my bottom lip, asking for entrance and I gladly opened for him, deepening the kiss. I surprised myself when I slipped my hand up his shirt, tracing his abs. I moaned at the feel of his body and I could feel him shiver in desire.

He pulled out of the kiss and I whimpered. His mouth went to my ear. "You have to get changed." With that he took the hem of my shirt and lifted it over my head. I gasped, shocked at first and tried to cover myself, feeling self-conscious. He took my hands and removed them from covering myself.

He stood back and took me in with his eyes as I stood in front of him in jeans and a bra.

"You're perfect, Krissy."

He pulled his lips back to mine and his hands went to my thighs. He lifted me up and I automatically wrapped my legs around his waist. He then moved us across the bathroom and sat me on the sink counter.

I tugged on the hem of his shirt. He pulled away and pulled it up over his head in an instant.

"So are you, Colton."

He started kissing and biting my neck playfully when his hands fumbled with the buttons on my jeans. With one swift motion he tugged them off and ran his hands down my legs as he slid them off.

"Your turn," I whispered. Then I started to undo the buttons on his jeans with my shaking hands. I had just about gotten it when I heard "Krissy!"

Shit! It was Macy just getting back, calling for me. I pulled away from Colton right away as if he were going to burn me.

"I'll be right out!' I called back to her.

Colton chuckled. "This is the second time one of your friends has interrupted us," he whispered, pointing a finger at me.

I laughed and pushed on his chest playfully.

A honk came from outside and I knew this was it. Like every other night, I was not allowed out. I had to sneak out of the school like I used to when I'd visited Colton.

Earlier, I had get Colton out of the room without Macy seeing him. I'd told her I needed her to get me supplies for when I went out with Kyle. She, excited that I was giving Kyle a chance, ran out to get them right away. I had to quickly get dressed and so did Colton. He told me he would get ready to follow us and ran out. I'm guessing he's waiting in his car.

When I left the school, I saw Kyle waiting in his car, parked on the curb. I looked around the area and spotted Colton just down the street, waiting in his car. He was my lifeline right now.

Then, I got in the car with a kidnapper.
