9. "Hope; the only thing stronger than fear"

Colton and I were still huddeled together in the small room. The noises from down the hall were becoming louder and louder.

"Man, someone sounds pissed," I snorted.

"Krissy," Colton sighed, giving me a disproving look.

Of course we agree not to fight and the next thing you know, we start fighting again.

"Not the time," he growled.

I rolled my eyes and moved closer to the door, pressing my ear against it. Colton crawled over and joined me. We sat there in silence for a long time. The arguing didn't stop. It sounded as if someone was being constantly thrown down hard against the ground.

"What do you think's going on?" I asked.

"Honesty, I think someone's life is coming to an end."

I didn't want to admit it but I was thinking the samething. I winced as another bang ecoed through the hall and the ground shook.

"Colton, we have to get out of here."

"I know, it's going to be alright. Listen, I've been trying to work something out for the right time, but I think we should go for it now."

"Okay, what's your plan?"

Colton sat in silence, looking at the ground as if he were in deep thought.

"Okay, we're going to demand for food. Start screaming that we're hungry. I'll hide behind the door and knock them down before they see it coming. Then we make a break for it and run like hell."

"What are you going to hit them with?"

Colton paused and looked around the room carefully, his eyes scanning every detail. The room was pretty empty when we had first arrived, I didn't see anything that would be helpful. Then it hit me, literally. I cringed and held my aching foot in pain. I had stepped on a loose nail in the floor that was now stained in my blood.

"Are you okay, Baby Girl!?" Colton wrapped his arms round my waist and sat me down carefully.

He slowly took off my shoe to see how deep it had gone. There was now a hole it my favorite pair of shoes. He lifted my foot and examined it.

"Man up, Krissy. It's not that deep at all, barely an indent."

I glared at him. "Kiss it better," I raised my foot to his lips.

He cringed away in disgust. "I'm not kissing you gross foot!"

I stuck my tounge out at him and he did the same in return. I giggled, clearly we were very mature for our age.

Colton dug up the nail from the floor bords and help it up.

"We'll use this then."

"Are you crazy!? That could kill them!"

"Better them than us," he shrugged.

My stomach dropped, could killing someone really be that easy for him. I had taken someone's life and it still haunted me to this very day, full of guilt and regret.

"Just remember, Kirssy. Run. Don't stop. Then he kissed me passionatly. It scared me as if this was it and I would never see him again.

"Start yellling," he ordered as he placed himself behind the door.

I nodded and did as he said. "Hello!? We're hungry! We need food!" I yelled as I banged on the door and stomped on the floor.

Shortly after, I herd footsteps coming from down the hall. So far so good.

The door creaked open and the bigger guy, Logan, walked in carrying a tray. He looked at me then came in farther, setting it down on the ground. But before he could pick himself up, Colton jumped on his back and sent the nail into his shoulder, missing his head.

Blood soaked from his shirt as he cried out. He fell under Colton's weight and gripped his shoulder tightly.

Colton didn't waste anytime, he grabbed my arm and ran, pulling my roughly along with him.

Not knowing where we were going, we just ran down the hall, looking for the stairs. When we reached the end of the hall, not seeing any stairs on the way, we rushed into the end room.

Colton slammed the door behind us and I stopped to catch my breath.

I herd yelling and soon footsteps coming down the hall.

"What do we do!?" I yelled to Colton.

He ran his fingers through his hair, probably thinking the same question.

The room was dark and I couldn't see very far infront of me.

"Where are we?" I wondered out loud.

I started walking deeping into the room, looking for a way out. Colton went the opposite way and searched his hands along the wall, looking for a light switch.

I stumbled over something in front of me. My hands we now soaked along with my legs. I screetched as I fell.

Colton then found the lightswitch. I could see now.

I had tripped over and was now lying on Amber's dead body.
