1. Introduction

Hi I’m Lily Roberts. I recently moved to California over the summer to start my music career. Here is usually where people start. I have been homeschooled and am now going to be at a public school for the first time, I mean how bad can it be? Pretty bad if you ask me. I drive up to the place and there are thousands of people. Is it possible to put this many people in one building? Apparently it is because they did it. I couldn’t find any of my classes so I was pretty much late to all of them. After the final bell rang I hurried home to get dressed and go to the recording studio. I was already somewhat signed with a record company but they wanted to see me play. I pull up and I see my agent, Roger.

“Hey Roger.” I say waving.

“You ready kiddo?” He asks. I nod. Roger was like an older brother to me. We started walking down the hall.

“So how was your first day of public school?” He asks.

“Terrible! First off there are too many people. Then I couldn’t find any of my classes so I was late to all of them. My locker doesn’t open and no one cares about anyone at public schools.” I rant. He puts his hand on my shoulder.

“That’s how high school is.” He says. I laugh a bit. We walk into the studio and I see some guy in the booth and four people sitting around. I look at Roger who face palmed himself.

“I completely forgot that One Direction would be recording today!” He says. Oh One Direction. I’ve heard of them before but never bothered to listen to their songs.

“HI! I’m Louis!” the brown haired one says. I wave. I wasn’t going to be mean.

“I’m Liam.” One says. He had a very short haircut like a buzz cut I guess.

“What’s your name?” The curly haired one says.

“Oh uh, I’m Lily.” I say.

“I don’t think I’ve ever heard of you before?” He says.

“Well I mean I haven’t started my career yet. I just moved here from Florida.” I say.

“Florida! I love that place.” Liam says. I nod.

“Why don’t you come back tomorrow to do this because it seems like they are very busy right now.” Roger says.

“Sure, cool with me.” I say.

“Bye!” The curly haired one says. I wave. We walk back down the hall and I drive home. I walk in the door and see my mom.

“How was school?” My mom asks.

“I feel like a loner.” I say.

“Why?” She asks.

“I have no friends.” I explain.

“Well it was only your first day, just wait a few days and you will get some friends.” She says. I nod and walk upstairs. I fall onto my bed and look at my clock, 6:00. I turn on my TV and flip through the channels. Nothing was on. This sucks. I turn it off and get started on these papers I have to sign for tomorrow. I pull them out and start reading them all one by one. These were long! I signed them and looked back at my clock. 7:00. I stuff the papers in my backpack and lay back on my bed. I close my eyes and fall asleep.

*BEEP BEEP. BEEP BEEP. BEEP, BEEP.* I turn my alarm off and get ready to go to prison. I put on some jean shorts and a t-shirt. I walk downstairs to eat breakfast but my mom wasn’t there. My phone rang.

‘Sorry I’m not there this morning, I started working earlier hours so your own on breakfast. Love you.’ It read. Crap. I am NOT a cook. I look for something I could eat. All we had were things you had to make. I decided to skip breakfast and go to school. I grab my keys and head over. I park and head inside. I sit down in my seat and start looking at my phone. That’s usually what people do in awkward situations.

“Hey.” I hear someone say. Were they talking to me? No, probably not.

“Hey.” They repeat. I look up and see a blonde girl right next to me.

“Hi.” I say.

“You new?” She asks. I nodded.

“It’s pretty easy to tell. I’m Zoey.” She introduces.

“I’m Lily.” I say.

“So where did you move from?” She asks.

“Florida.” I say. She nods.

“Why did you move?” She asks.

“Oh because I am going to become a singer.” I say.

“Well then welcome to California. Why don’t you sit with my friend Ali and me?” She suggests. I nod. The bell rings and the teacher walks in. Maybe living here won’t be so bad after all.
