11. The Necklace

It had been a day since Abby's dad had a heart attack. The worst part was she got a call in the night that he died in the hospital shortly after it . She was really sad so I called in work and said we were both sick. Afterexplaining we both caught the same cold, I tip-toed to Abby's room. I heard a small sniffle. I frowned. I felt so bad. An idea soon sparked in my head. I got Abby up, told her to get dressed, and told her to take a shower. In 30 minutes she was ready.

I took her to the mall. We got there and went straight to the jewelry store.

"Abby what month was your dad born in?" I asked.

"September-r," she muttered. I went over the the glass case with Sapphire stones. All of the glittering, dark blue gems sparkled at me. A tiny blue gem on a silver chain choker caught my eye.

"Can we see that one?" I questioned pointing at the necklace. The man nodded and opened the case. He handed me the necklace. It fit on Abby's neck perfectly. I knew I barely had any money, but that necklace was only $100. I paid the man and we left.

"Why did you buy me this?" Abby asked.

"To remind you of your dad. It will be a little piece of him wherever you go. I have dog tags to remind me of my brother." I pulled them out and showed her.

She smiled and replied with a simple thank you. We went and got lunch. It reminded me of a little Italian restaurant a couple blocks away from my old house. My brother and I went there to celebrate everything.

After that we wondered around random clothing stores. We didn't buy anything, but we window shopped. Then we drove home. I had to make her drive because I do not have a license. She did not mind though. I quietly stared out the window as I whispered, "And they say, she's in the class A team. Stuck in her daydream."
