7. Found a Home

I looked up stunned to see Abby standing before me.

"Uh, hey Abby!" I exclaimed putting on a fake smile. She looked at me for a long time and I could tell she already knew I was homeless. The blank look on her face never faded. Finally she took her hand and pushed back her dirty blonde bangs. Then she breathed out a long sigh and took my hand then pulled me up.

"Come on Angel," Abby said sternly. I followed orders and she took me into her apartment. The walls were sea green and the floor was a light brown carpet. It was very cluttered. She led me by the hand into a guest bedroom. "You are staying here until you get back on your feet."

I woke up next morning feeling better then ever. The guest bedroom was so bright and flowery. There was many different shades of pink everywhere. The carpet was a dirty white color which was very pretty. I walked out and found Abby.

"You can take a shower if you want. I'm going out to grocery shop," she added. I was still speechless, but I managed to mutter out a simple thank you.  I walked into the bathroom and a chill went on my bare feet from the tile. I took a long shower. The only places I've been taking showers in the past years were at churches and they were not good showers so I'm surprised no one ever complained about the smell. I stepped out feeling better then ever.

When I got out Abby was standing there with groceries. She didn't look at me or anything. I looked down at the floor feeling guilty that I didn't tell her about my "situation".

"Angel look, I know we only met a week ago, but why didn't you tell me?"

"I guess I was just a little embarrassed you all seemed like you had your life figured out financially."

"Okay I understand. Just to let you I'm always here to talk. You can stay here and share the apartment with me."

I felt guilty that she was being so nice and helpful and I wasn't telling her anything. So I sat her down and started from the beginning. I told her about my brother, when I ran away, my life living on the street, and up until Adam found me. Abby didn't talk for awhile. Then all of the sudden she hugged me. I blinked to stop the tears from forming in my eyes, but it was too late. It felt so weird having a friend like this. Someone who understands me. I told her how much my brain hurt all the time. She calmed me down and I took the sleeve of my shirt and wiped my eyes. I looked over at the clock. It was 10:30! We had to get to work.  Abby drove me to work and on the way we discussed our interests. It made me almost forget the world I lived in.

This reminded me of when my brother used to drive me to school. It was a time we could just talk like nothing ever happened the night before with our parents yelling at us.

We got to work and the day went by so fast. I mainly talked to Dave. He made me smile a lot.

After work I told Abby I was going for a walk. I walked for 20 minutes then sang, "Loose change, bank notes. Weary eyes and dry throats. Cool girl, no phone."
