13. Another Great Day

I woke up and felt super energetic. I rushed into the bathroom and took a warm shower. Then I dried my hair leaving it straight down. I put on a gray beanie with my new gray jeans and white v neck shirt. I ate breakfast and felt prepared for the audition. Abby decided to come and support me so we were off.

We walked across the busy, typically Chicago streets to the building. The audience was almost full because the competition was getting close to choosing the winner. Abby and I sat in the back waiting for my name to be called. As we waited I heard some excellent singers. This is going to be hard, I thought. Suddenly I heard my name being blasted throughout the room from the microphone. I nervously walked up onto the stage.

"Hello," I greeted nervously.

"Hi, what are you going to sing for us today?" A short, portly man asked.

"Well I'm going to sing Just a Little Girl by Trading Yesterday. I know it's from a guy's perspective, but I'm just going to sing it like that," I threw back.

"Okay that is cool. Begin anytime you want."

I took a deep breath. Then I scanned the room. I finally closed my eyes and started to sing,

"You never, cared to hear the other side.

So why would you, care to keep this thing alive.

You paint me into, the memory of all your pain.

But I will not, be drawn into the past again.

Cause all of this is all that I can take.

And you could never understand the demons that I've faced.

So go ahead and bat your eyes and lie right to the world cause for everything you are.

Your just a little girl.

I never meant for you to feel this way.

The Decembers were never meant to be this gray.

It's not a question of who was wrong and what is right.

But time can not heal, what you will never recognize.

Cause all of this is all that I can take.

And you could never understand the demons that I've faced.

So go ahead and bat your eyes and lie right to the world cause for everything you are.

Your just a little girl.

So go ahead and cry.

Go ahead, believe that your were right.

Keep away the dark.

Help you sleep tonight.

So go on and decide.

Who is wrong what is right.

Cause you know inside.

Cause all of this is all that I can take.

And you could never understand the demons that I've faced.

So go ahead and bat your eyes and lie right to the world cause for everything you are.

Cause all of this is all that I can take.

And you could never understand the demons that I've faced.

So go ahead and bat your eyes and lie right to the world cause for everything you are.

Your just a little girl."

After I was done I heard everyone cheering and clapping. I allowed a tiny grin to grow on my face.

"Thank you so much. We can all honestly say you are one of the best singers we have. You have made it through to round 2. Only 3 more rounds to go."

I thanked them then left. Abby and I celebrated all night. Before I went to bed I quickly whispered, "And they scream. The worst things in life come free to us."
