17. The Fountain

*Liam’s P.O.V*

I watch closely and quietly, as Kyra moves closer to the fountain. Her eyes brighten as she takes it in, smiling at the statues in the center. Her lower lip falls slightly down from her upper lip as the beauty of the sight hits her.

“A friend told me to come here, to at least check it out,” I whisper, tearing my eyes away from her and to the fountain.

“Why’d you bring me?” She asks quietly, turning to face me, her brown eyes searching my face for the answer.

I shrug my shoulders, “I dunno, you were the only person I wanted with me, I guess.”

“Liam?” She asks, sitting down on fountain’s cement outlining, her wrinkled clothes magically smoothing out.

“Mhm?”

“How did you get that bruised eye?”

“I ran into a wall.”

“Liar.”

“You don’t have to believe me.”

She sighs and then turns her body, placing her fingertips in the water, making ripples in it. The sunlight hits her face and that’s when I finally see small freckles outlining her nose. But when she turns back to me, they disappear.

“We should get going,” Kyra suddenly decides, standing up slowly, fixing her hair and clothes.

Though they don’t need any fixing, they are still perfect.

“But we just got here,” I argue.

Kyra looks at me seriously, “What’s the point, Liam? You won’t tell me anything.”

I raise my eyebrows, “You think I brought you here to spill my secrets?”

“I dunno,” She replies, walking past me. “But I really don’t care anymore.”

I grab her arm gently, stopping her, “Wait.”

“No, Liam, we have to go. You do have a responsibility to your fans, and you already skipped rehearsals.” She says coldly, removing my fingers from her arm, quickly walking over to the vespa.

Why am I screwing up?

It was all just perfect!

I sigh and walk after her.

“Kyra,” I say once I reach her, her back turned to me, grabbing something from the vespa.

She ignores me and I watch her grab her phone, before walking away from the vespa. My eyebrows furrow together.

“Where are you going?” I shout to Kyra, running after her.

“Back to the hotel!” She calls back, walking faster. “And I can’t go home with you, I just can’t.”

“Kyra, stop, it’s dangerous out there. You won’t make it back before night!” I call, running faster, though I probably shouldn’t, for my own health.

“I don’t care, I’ll make it back eventually.” She snaps.

Closer.

Getting closer.

“Stop!” I say breathlessly, grabbing her arm tighter this time.

Kyra turns around, anger flashing in her eyes, “Let me go, Liam.”

I’m about to respond but something interrupts me.

“Oh my gosh, LIAM PAYNE!?” A screaming voice shouts.

My brown eyes see the young fan running towards us. And she wasn’t alone. Soon enough other fans were just coming out of nowhere, all running madly towards me.

And with my attention snapped, Kyra escapes my grasp, and as the crowd comes upon me she disappears through them.

Against my ability, I let her go, focusing on the many fans before me. But as another notepad is shoved at me, out of the corner of my eye, I see the red of her coat disappearing around the corner of the street.

She’s gone.

Lost in an unfamiliar city.
