Wings

In the world of the Lamania, fey aren't just your average Tinkerbell. They're dark, dangerous, disturbingly sexy, and seem to know all your darkest secrets. So when Ema Weblake is inadvertently thrown into the midst of this deadly realm with the kidnapping of her mother by supposed 'fairy tale creatures', you can tell that she may be slightly annoyed. Torn between two courts, the lines between good and evil becoming blurred, and a certain wolf-boy hiding his heart behind a wall of ice, Ema's starting to find out that not all faerie tales have happy endings.

5. Secrets, Secrets and even more Secrets

A/N at the end :)

[re-cap]

Dorothy glares at him, before turning to me. "Ema, they are faerie spawn. Which means that yes, faeries do exist. They took your mother, who is otherwise known as Queen Titania of the Seelie Court, to a place that we call Lamania. You're a faerie princess Em."

"What?!" I gape at her, thinking Faeries don't exist, that's not even possible, how the hell can they. . . .

I think I may have said that out aloud, because Rob sighs, running a hand through his vivid red hair. "Sorry to burst your perfect little bubble, but they're real allright princess."

"So what do you call those things that bit you?" Adam asks me with raised eyebrows. "Were they just a figment of all of our imaginations?"

"I-I-I I . .. I don't know!" I exclaim, feeling rather stupid. My arms throbs next to me, as if to prove his point.

"You got bit?" Dorothy gasps, eyeing my arm, which had gone a sickly green colour.

"Yeah." I grimace. "It doesn't hurt as bad as it looks though."

Dorothy turns to the boys. "What, are you both stupid??" She scolds. "Why haven't you treated it?"

"Sorry princess, we were a little busy trying to stop Ema from becoming gremlin meat." Rob answers sarcastically.

They were all beginning to make me nervous. "Guys? What's going on? What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Dorothy says quickly. She turns to Adam and Rob and starts to speak to them in a foreign language. They both nod, disappearing into the kitchen while Dorothy takes me and plops me down on a chair. The boys come back with a strange looking cream and bandages, and sit down beside us as my friend starts to dress my wound.

"What's that?" I ask warily, eyeing the pungent brown cream.

"Gromyll Nectar." Dorothy says grimly. "Her Majesty always kept a spare jar in . . . "

I interrupt her, looking at her like she was mad. 'You can't seriously think that my Mum is a faerie queen. She's just a plain old paramedic."

"She's serious all right princess." Rob grins. I whirl on him without disturbing Dorothy, who's' now carefully bandaging my arm up. "And who the hell do you think you are anyway? What are you doing here?"

He bows with a flourish. "Robin Goodfellow at your service."

I blink, and then burst out laughing. "You have got to be. . . . Robin Goodfellow? Seriously? THE Robin Goodfellow?"

"Please, just call me Puck." Rob grimaces. "You make me sound so old."

Adam snorts. "Please."

Rob glares at him. "Just because you haven't been mentioned in any famous stories. . . . "

"Guys, seriously." Dorothy directs a sour look at both of them, and they both pout at her. She ties my bandage up with a sharp tug, ignoring my cry of pain.

"There, done." She says as she looks down at her handiwork. "Try not to kill yourself in the next day and you'll be fine." I scowl at her and she shrugs at me. "It isn't hard Ema."

I stand up, and immediately regret it as the floor attempts to swoop up and swallow me. Grabbing onto the first thing that wasn't swaying with the rest of the room, I close my eyes and wait for the dizziness to pass. Once my ears had stopped ringing and my vision returned, I open my eyes and blush when I see my hand clutching Rob - or it is Puck's? - arm. He's smirking at me again, and my blush deepens.

"Hard to resist me is it princess?" He smiles at me impishly and i come seriously close to whacking him hard. Instead, I settle for dropping my hand off his arm and leaning against the wall for support as dizziness engulfs me again.

" What have you down to me?" I weakly ask Dorothy as tinges of black line the edges of my vision. She looks at me somewhat apologetically.

"Sorry Em." She says. "Gromyll nectar does. . . . ."

But i never heard the end of her sentence because for the second time in two weeks, i sank to the floor, unconscious.

<><><><><><><><>

I drifted in and out of consciousness for what seemed like days, but Dorothy told me later that it was only 24 hours. Vivid dreams bombarded me, and most of them were situated around the kidnapping of my mother. Several times i woke up screaming only to be comforted by a soft voice and a cool flannel, and i always wondered who it was that stayed by me just before i drifted off again.

After a seriously haunting dream which involved my mother being eaten by three 'gremlins', I blearily open my eyes to the soft drone of voices. I turn to the voices and shut my eyes again, pretending I was still asleep.

". . . . but who would want to take Titania?" I hear Dorothy quietly fret.

"I don't know Lea." I hear Adam answer her. "I would say the Unseelie Court but. . . "

"Nah, Mab isn't that stupid." Puck interrupts Adam.

"Well, then who Puck?" I hear Adam retort angrily. "Do enlighten us."

Puck sighs frustratedly. "I don't know Calix, alright? I just don't know." He mutters something else under his breath, much to the obvious annoyance of Adam.

I can just imagine Adam running his hand through his hair at this point as I hear him exhale slowly. "I think. . . . I thi- Lea I'm gonna go after her."

Dorothy gasps. "No Adam! Why would you do that?"

"Because it's my duty to you and to my queen." He says more firmly, now that his mind is made up. Dorothy makes this soft sobbing noise, and Adam moves to comfort her, from what I can gather from all the thumping around he's making. I can just about hear Puck grin as he says "Well, sounds like an adventure that I want to be on. I'm in."

Adam growls as he hears this. "No, you're not."

"Yes I am, and you sure as hell can't stop me." Puck says quietly. "I owe you that much. And besides, I'm the only one who knows where an active yham is around here."

The others gasp. "You know where a yahm is?" Dorothy asks incredulously. "Why didn't you tell us before now??"

"Well, I didn't know you needed it that badly!" Puck says guiltily. Dorothy groans loudly. "Puck!!!!"

Puck must grin again, because Adam groans. "Fine. You can come. Traitor." I hear him mutter under his breath.

Puck smiles at his triumph. "I thought so."

"I'm coming too." I finally speak up from my bed. They all freeze, before turning to me.

"No you're not Ema." They all say forcably at the same time. I try not to sigh with frustration as I sit up and face them.

"What're you gonna do to stop me?" I hiss stubbornly. "She's my mother, you really expect me to sit here on my ass and wait for you to all die while trying to save her?!"

They all share a look before turning back to me. "Ema, we can't risk losing you." Dorothy says with a pained expression, as if she knows what I'm going through.

I snort. "And what exactly do I mean to you that means you would leave me behind? I know how to defend myself; you've seen me in action Dorothy. And you sure as hell do not know what I'm going through." I mutter under my breath.

Dorothy twists her hair around her hand before flipping it over her shoulder, a sure sign that she's agitated. She seems to battle with herself, before glancing at the boys. They both nod, with afflicted expressions on both of their faces. Dorothy looks me in the eye, before saying quietly "Ema, you know you're a faerie princess." I nod, the information still not fully processed through my brain, but wanting her to go on. "What we didn't tell you is that . . . . Oh god, how can I not put this bluntly??" She looks anguished, before continuing "Ema, your father is still alive."

Really short chapter sorry guys, but I had to stop it there for another cliffhanger!! O.O Lots of info in this chapter, thankyou all so much for all your support!! And if any of you are wondering where I can up with the name yham, try spelling it backwards :) I wrote this chapter when Margaret Mahy died, so I thought it was fitting to name something after her, her stories were a massive part of my childhood :) RIP Margaret :(
