5. I love you

It has been two months since I moved in with James. I had managed to secure myself a job at this Portugese restaurant, Nando's, that wasn't too far from here. The income wasn't that bad. And I got free lunch - the Peri-Peri chicken was delicious. I've been able to pay James rent regularly, although he rants about it a lot. I've also managed to buy myself some new clothes and finally gotten a hair cut. I'd had my waist-length hazelnut hair trimmed shoulder-length so that I could still tie it into a messy bun. I waas looking and feeling better. The bruises had nearly fully healed although the emotional scars I had sustained would take a bit more time to heal. Occasionally, I'd feel miserable but James would be there to cheer me up -like he always did. Whoever his girlfriend was going to be would be one lucky girl. Nevertheless, the money I had earned so far was insufficient for me to go back to school where I wanted to study and get a degree. Anyway, I visited my mother almost every day, between the long hours at work. She wasn't getting any better but her face would always light up when I visited so, I wad glad that I was making her happy. I would also sneak in my aunt's house to wish my sisters goodnight and sweet dreams every night. Life was going pretty well so far.

James had been busy practicing with the boys and I admired him for that. His passion for music was commendable. He had a great voice too. Although his normal speaking voice was quite low, his singing voice was high and pleasant to the ear. I enjoyed listening to him practice here.

Today was a Sunday and we both had nothing on so we decided to stay at home for a movie marathon. I had gotten the popcorn and drinks ready as James put in the first movie, the romantic comedy, The Back-Up Plan which left both James and I laughing and cringing at different instances. I had gone to refill our drinks as James put in the last movie. I realized that night had fallen. We were up to the part where Jamie ( who I realizes had the same name as myself) was in the hospital bed. Carter was by her side, telling her how much he loved her despite her having leukemia.

"I hope I'll have that kind of love some day," I murmured, day dreaming. James must've heard me because he turned to look at me. I was resting my head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders.

"You will," he answered, looking deep into my eyes.

He leaned in and I could feel his warm breath on my lips. He placed his hand on my cheek, stroking it with his thumb. He closed his eyes and I did mine as he leaned in further, our lips inches apart....

But then, I realized what was about to happen.

"Wait," I pulled back, leaving him shocked. " I can't. It's not you. James, I love you. I really do," I told him sincerely. He smiled weakly, nodding. " But not in THAT way. I see you as my best friend. A brother. Some one I trust. I'm not ready for a relationship yet. Please, I don't want anything to change between us," I pleaded. He nodded with understanding.

"Fine. But hear me out. I love you. I always have, since the first day I met you. You're different, Jamie Sullivan. I love everything about you. And I'll always be here for you. Never forget that," he told me. I nodded, smiling.

"On a lighter note," he said, his eyes lightening up. "Would you like to accompany me and the lads to Sony studios tomorrow? We just need to do some admin stuff. We might even be performing out on the street," he invited, eagerly.

"Sure. I'd love to," I agreed.
