Meet Me in the Meadow

Dreams are like fireflies. You have to catch them in order to see the beauty, but once they stop lighting up, they die. That sums up my life. An eighteen year old girl, who sits alone everyday in the same spot wondering what to do with her life. If anyone wants to save me from ending it, tell them to meet me in the meadow. I bet you no one will show up.

33. Fear

I sat against the wall of the school, the wind blowing through my long brown curls. The tears dried on my rosy cheeks as my hands laid on my lap. Today was one of the worst days of my life, and hopefully it would get better. I suddenly heard a rustle come from the bushes across the street. My stomach started churning, fearing what was coming my way. I saw the shadow of a man. He was wearing all black, but it was hard to pick out who it was, as the sky was a dark grey, signalling rain soon. The man was approaching me at a quick pace. My breathing started to get really heavy, and was about to get up, when I was knocked down to my feet. I looked up to see the face of a man who I never wanted to see again.

"You really think you can escape from me?" My father snapped at me, dragging me to my feet by my hair.

"How did you find me?" I whispered, tears threatening to spill out of my eyes.

"I'm not that stupid you know." He sneered, slapping me across my face.

I tried to run away, but he gripped my wrist with his strong hands, making it throb in pain.

"You can't get away with are on school grounds." I tell him, my free hand balling up into a fist.

"I am your father, I can do what I want to you." He yelled, punching me in the face, sending me down to the pavement, almost hitting my head on the brick wall.

I did it. I screamed. I screamed louder than I ever have before. My lungs busted out a shrill note that I have never been capable of doing. His eyes went wide, and he covered my mouth with his dry hand.

"You do that again, I will kill you." He muttered in my ear, showing me the pistol he had in his coat pocket.

Tears spilled out of my eyes, me trying to hold in the sobs threatening to escape. He again dragged me to my feet, slamming me up against the building wall. His breath reeked of alcohol and cigarette smoke, and his teeth were tinted a yellow colour. He brought his fist up, about to hit my face, when I heard a car door slam shut. I closed my eyes tightly, wanting this all to be just a dream.

 "Let go of her."

I hear a man say, as I slide to the ground, letting fear take over me.
