Little Things

Jenny is just an average teenage girl who works at a pet store. One day while she's working though a certain boy and his friend appear in the shop. They talk for awhile a start to become really good friends. But will something spark between the friendship? If so, what would others say? How would they react? Would things go good? Or bad? You'll just have to read the story if you want to find out ;)

28. Showtime

In the next one and a half weeks, school ended so Sissy and I went for a little shopping, cinema and bowling as celebration. Harry and I also had a discrete party, meaning the boys, their girlfriends- this time even Perrie joined- and me having a great time in the Stylinson residence. Since our relationship was still a secret, that was all we could do but honestly, it was better than any party. From that time I had the house to myself more, since my parents were working and my sister was in kindergarten, so Harry usually stepped by before or after work. It wasn’t differently on the day before the dance performance.

“Hey, come in!”

“Hi, love! I’ve got almost two hours before I have to go.” He said after we greeted each other with a kiss.

“Great! Let’s go upstairs!”

“What were you doing?” he asked confused, eyeing some of my furniture pushed close to the wall.

“Practising. You know I need space for that.”

“Are you nervous?”

“Nervous can’t even express what I feel.”

“You’ll be great! I’m so sorry I can’t be there.”

“Don’t be! It’s okay, I know you’re busy.” I said flopping down on the bed.

“Well it doesn’t make me feel better.”

“Then what would make you feel better?” He gave me a charming half smile and practically jumped on top of me making the air in my lungs rush out with a funny voice.

“Sleep at my place tomorrow.”

“Maybe if you didn’t crush me…” I grunted. He held onto my waist and turned around so I was on top of him.

“And now?”

“We’ll see…” I slid down next to him and put my head on his chest.

“It depends on…?”

“Well this time I’ll have to ask my parents so it depends on their mood and on how much I’ll be in the mood to sit through a probably embarrassing conversation and watch as my mom freaks out. Sometimes I just wish they weren’t so strict. I mean Sissy’s parents are so cool! They let her do whatever she wants. I’m just as mature and reliable as she is!”

“Maybe her parents aren’t as anxious as yours are.”

“Yeah or maybe, it’s just that they have a better relationship. She tells them everything. She and her mom are like best friends. I’ve always envied that. I think I’m more like a daddy’s girl.”

“Is your relationship with him better?”

“Much better. He takes things a lot less serious and he has a personality like mine so I always know when to stop. How about you and your mom? Has it been always great?”

“Yeah. I’m a mommy’s boy.”

“She seems to be really cool.”

“She is. Maybe you could see that yourself soon…”

My head snapped up in surprise and I looked at him with my wide eyes.

“You mean…”

“Yeah. She already implied that she wants to meet you, so…”

“You told her about me?”

“Of course. Basically I tell her everything.”

“You too? There must be something wrong with me. But…what did you say to her?”

I turned to my side and faced him while I propped myself up with one of my elbows with a huge grin and fluttered eyelashes.

“I’m not telling you that.”

His smug expression made me pout that was quickly replaced with a smile as he kissed me. Harry pulled on my elbow, making me fall back, then he hovered over me, but made sure he didn’t crush me. I felt his warm tongue slide across my lips asking for permission to enter and discover the inside of my mouth, so I parted my lips to grant him that privilege. My hands travelled up on his toned back until they reached his hair and my fingers tangled themselves into his soft curls. Meanwhile his free hand slid down on my side to my hip where his grasp became stronger. I loved the feeling of his big hand grasping and caressing my skin, his soft lips working on mines and his tongue fought with mine; the way his body pressed against mine, but I was a slightly worried of where it all led us. I wasn’t ready to take things to the next level. Not yet. I decided to pull away before things got even more heated.

“I’m sorry I…”

“Don’t be.” he interrupted and pecked my lips. Anyway, I brought you something. He reached for his jacket and pulled out a picture from his pocket of the two of us kissing in the rain from the other day.

“I liked it very much, so I printed it. It’s yours.”

“Aww thanks. Now where do you want to be? On my wall or the nightstand in a pretty frame?”

He stood up and walked over to my wall where a part was separated with lights and was decorated with quotes, symbols and pictures about me and my family, my friends etc. He motioned me to hand him the picture before he removed a heart, put the picture on the wall and secured it with the little red symbol.

“Like this.”

“Perfect. Now, what do you want to do?”

“Go out to the backyard?”

“Sounds good.” I headed to the door to go downstairs, but Harry went to the balcony.

“What are you doing? You want to jump down?” I chuckled.

“You need a rope ladder. That would be much easier.”

“I wouldn’t use it.”

“Why not?”

“Because I would die on the way down. I’d either fall off or just simply die because I’m kinda afraid of height.”

“Oh…but I could use it! Can your balcony door be opened from outside?”

“With a key, yes. But what? You want to sneak into my room at night?”

“Why? Isn’t that a great idea?”

“Well if you want to be hit with I don’t know the closest thing to my bed or if you want to give me a heart attack then it is. Now come on, let’s go out!”

I grabbed his hand and began pulling him down the stairs. In the backyard there was a big and old tree close to my balcony and from a branch, a tire swing was hanging. We walked to the bottom of the tree and looked up.

“Let’s sit on that branch!” Harry said and started climbing up the tree. When he reached it, he looked down at me with one of his eyebrows raised.

“You’re not coming?”

“Uh…I can’t climb a tree.”

“What? Here’s this big tree in front of your room and you’ve never climbed on it?”

“Hmm…” he put his hands to his chin and put on a thinking expression, then smiled at me cheekily.

“Give me your hand.”

“I’ll pull you up.”

“No!” I protested.

“Come on! I’ll either pull you up or get down so you can sit on my shoulders and climb up.”

“Hmm let me think…I choose to stay here.”

“Why? You don’t trust me?”

“I trust you, I just don’t want you to pick me up…I’m too heavy.” Out of the blue, he jumped down and picked me up.

“You’re as light as a feather. Don’t you ever think otherwise. Now…let’s get you up that tree!”

He put me down just to get a better hold of me at the middle of my thighs and then lifted me up. I caught the branch and pushed myself up.

“See? You’re up! Now scooch over, I’m coming up.” within seconds he was sitting beside me with a smug smile.

“Okay I’m up. Now how the hell am I going to get down? There’s no way I’ll jump! It’s like 10 meters high and I have a performance tomorrow!” Harry started laughing and kissed me to make me shut up.

“It can’t be more than 3 meters, love. I got you up, I’ll make sure you get down safely okay?”

“Okay.” I sighed and leaned over to his shoulder.

“Will you sing to me?”

“Of course. Name a song!”

“Uhm…how about a new song from the second album?”

“Ha-ha, cunning, but no.”

“Oh come on! I’m your girlfriend, can’t I get a tiny sneak peak?”

“You heartless human being!”

“Is that what I am? A heartless human being?” He questioned with a fake gasp.

“Mhm.” Suddenly, he jumped off leaving me alone on the tree. He looked up, grinning.

“Then let’s see how can you come down without that heartless human being!”

“Ah, come on! It’s not funny!”

“Jump down, love!”

“Are you crazy? I can’t break my leg!”

“You won’t!”

“But if I do, you’re a dead person, Styles!”

I slowly turned around, held onto the branch and slowly put my legs down, so I was hanging off the tree. Now I just had to let go, but I was too afraid. However, I felt stupid just hanging there, so I shut my eyes and let go. I expected the painful meeting of the ground and my legs, but it just didn’t come. I opened one of my eyes to see Harry holding me.

“You didn’t really think I’d let you get hurt, did you?”

“Thanks for catching me.” I smiled and kissed him.

“I love you.”

“I love you too. Now get ready, cause I’m going to teach you how to climb up to this tree.”

I chuckled assuming he was joking, but soon I found out he wasn’t. Every time he tried to instruct me, I fell onto the ground in fits of giggles, where he joined me until he had to go, leaving me with my thin nerves that caused me a brief insomnia that night.

The next day I woke up around 10 in the morning. I had to be at the venue by noon, but since I didn’t plan on having breakfast due to the knot in my stomach, I didn’t really worry. I put on my dance uniform: a pair of shorts and a red tank top decorated with the initials of our dance team, and tied my hair into a tight ponytail.

“Morning!” I greeted my family when I walked into the kitchen.

“Nope. Just coffee.”

“Why? You have to eat something! You’ll be sick.”

“If I eat something, I’ll throw up! You’re all coming?”

“Yes. Laura’s very excited. How about Harry?”

“He’s working. But Sissy will be there. Although according to my theory, the less people the better, but…”

“Don’t be silly! Anyway, afterwards we’ll be celebrating with a family lunch. Dad’s going to make burgers! You can invite Sissy over.”

“Really? Mom, family meals never turn out to be good. Last time, Laura fell of the slide. And before that, God knows what happened. Oh wait, I remember…you grounded me!”

“This one will be good. Now eat so we can get going.” I sat down and began playing with a waffle, defeated. I really wasn’t into family meals, but if I could make them have a good time, maybe I could sleep at Harry’s. Sounded like a good plan.

In the car I was playing with Harry’s bracelet, trying to get my mind off the horrible scenarios of me forgetting the steps or falling over something. My stomach flipped as I caught the first glimpse of the place; so many people were there.

“See you guys later!” I shouted to my family, who replied with a few good lucks, then went to the stairs that led up to the stage. I found Sissy there, waiting for me.

“Hey, how are you feeling?”

“Terrible. Like I’ll faint in any minute or throw up or just simply drop dead.”

“Hey, breathe! Everything’s going to be okay. Now go up, stretch or whatever you dancers do and rock the stage!” I hugged her and went off to meet the others and get ready.

Harry’s POV

“Harry?” I heard a female voice call from my left. I slowly turned my head and sighed in relief as I recognised Sissy.

“What are you doing here? Jenny told me you couldn’t make it.”

“Well I did. Is she on the stage already?”

“Yeah. You’d better not see her right now, she’s nervous enough. If she learns you’re here… Do you want to join her family? They’re over there.”

“Sure!” I followed her while I sent a quick message to Jenny telling her not to be nervous and wishing good luck. Reaching her family, I greeted her mom and sister, then turned to her dad.

“Hello, I’m Harry Styles, your daughter’s boyfriend.”

“I’ve heard a lot about you. It’s nice to finally meet you, Harry.”

“The pleasure’s mine, sir.” We began chatting a little until a woman came on stage.

“Welcome! It’s wonderful to see so many of you came to join us and enjoy such a beautiful day. Now, I usually don’t talk too much before the shows, but the girls are currently having some problem with the snapbacks that arrived in the last minute, so let me tell you a few things about the show while they’re getting ready. My name’s Sarah, I’m the teacher of the TDT modern dance school and I must say it’s a pleasure to work with these girls who’ve been working especially hard in these past few months, doing their best to learn and perform the moves they are about to present you. Today you’re going to see… oh I see they’re ready, so I don’t propagate the words anymore. Please welcome the school’s junior and advanced group!”

She walked off the stage while the crowd clapped and about seven girls came on stage. They seemed to be younger, about the age of 14, so I guessed they were the junior group. They stopped in the middle of the stage and then started dancing as the first beat of Kesha’s Take it off left the stereo. About half a minute later, another group of older girls ran onto the stage, behind the first group and immediately started dancing as the music got faster. The groups wore the same outfit- tank tops, shorts; snapbacks with their hair in pony tails- only the colour of their clothes was different. The junior group wore white tank tops, while Jenny’s group wore red ones. My eyes began searching for her as the song altered into another one and the formation of the girls changed. It was hard to see any of their faces between the twirls and jumps and all of those moves but soon I spotted her dancing in the middle.

“Mommy, I can’t see her!” her sister whined. Without thinking, I picked her up and pointed in the right direction.

“You’re sister’s there. Can you see her?”

“Yes. Thank you Harreh.”

I chuckled at her pronunciation and continued watching the show, still holding the little girl.

“She’s really good, right?”

“Mhm.” Laura agreed.

“Harry? We’re making burgers for lunch- a family lunch- to congratulate Jenny. Would you like to join?” her dad asked.

“Yes, thank you. I’d love to.”

When the next song, a Justin Bieber one ended, the junior group ran out and things just got very interesting. For example, the first song, If by Janet Jackson, was quite hot and so was the choreography. If I had to choose, I especially liked 3 of the tracks: What Makes You Beautiful, because it was energetic and the smile on her face was just amazing; the second best was the Jessie J one. They used chairs; they sat on it, stood on it and they even passed it over between their legs. But my absolute favourite was the Jonas Brothers one. Jenny and another girl were the ‘stars’ of that song. They were at first dancing at the back, with their faces away from the crowd, but when the chorus came, they walked forward and rocked it. My jaw literally dropped. It was just like the cute and shy person from the top of the tree was gone and here I had this another girl moving her body like I’ve never seen before: doing twirls, body waves, bending down and standing up slowly while dragging her hand over her thighs. Very hot. After a few rolls on the floor, the song ended and soon the whole show.

“Shut your mouth; don’t forget you have to impress her dad!” Sissy whispered to me chuckling. I rolled my eyes at her while we all walked to the stage to wait for the girls to come off. However, they didn’t come until they talked to the judges from some dance competition. From the erupted screams, I guessed they got through. A few seconds later Jenny came running down the stairs. When she saw me, she let out another scream and attacked me with a hug.

“Oh my god what are you doing here?”

“I couldn’t miss it. You were great! Like…awesome!” She giggled.

“Thanks. Oh wait…”  she glanced behind me to her family.

“You guys were all together?”

“Mhm. Harry’s coming for lunch!” her dad said.

“Sissy would you like to join?”

“No thank you! I’m meeting someone.”

“Ooh is it Scott?” Jenny teased.

“Shut up! You were awesome, we’ll talk later. Goodbye!” She waved and walked away.

“Shall we go then?”

Jenny’s POV

“…and then she ran into a glass door!” Dad finished his story about me in tears. Everyone was laughing, while I hid my face in my palms.

“Dad I thought you promised not to embarrass me!”

“But sweetie, I’m your dad, it’s my job!” I groaned in frustration, while Harry planted a kiss on my temple.

“Anyway, you should be grateful I didn’t show your baby pictures…yet.” He said as he placed some photo albums on the table.

“And videos!”

“Oh no, no! I think it’s time to end this family lunch, that became a family lunch and dinner, so…can I sleep at Harry’s tonight?” I saw my mom freeze in her steps and look at dad. He thought about it for a minute and nodded.

“Sure, if I can have a little chat with your boyfriend, while you pack your stuff.”

“Daad!” I whined. “Is it really necessary?”

“Yes.” I looked at Harry, who just smiled and nodded. I walked over to my dad and lowered my voice.

“Please don’t say anything too embarrassing. I really, really like him. Love him actually. Don’t ruin it please. You can trust me and you can also trust him!”

“I know. Now go pack!” I kissed Harry on the cheek and whispered an “I’ll be quick.” before I ran up to my room, grabbed a bag and put everything I needed for the night into it. After about 5 minutes, I ran down to see the men shaking hands.  “

Can we go?”

“Yes, love. It was nice meeting you, sir!”

“Please, call me Joe! Have a good time.”

“Bye!” I shouted and got in Harry’s car.
