Time Cat: An American Feline in Edo

Tobias is just an average black cat. Well, almost black - he has a white sock on his left rear foot and a white patch under his nose. One day while exploring the yard of his Human, he comes across a curious glowing orb. He begins to investigate it and inadvertently activates it, creating a rip in the very fabric of reality. Much to his dismay, he is sucked into the rip and carried through time and space to an era much earlier than his own. Now he must track this orb across time and space in order to activate it and bring him back home. Don't forget my author page: tinyurl.com/anrisarynfb

1. Prologue

Looking through the old photographs was more than a hobby for me. I had spent many a day in the archives at the local library, searching various collections and files for interesting topics. I had often found things that surprised me - the traditions of the classes that attended the local colleges, the habits of some of the presidents.... It was all extremely interesting to me.
I suppose that's how I got into the job I have now.
My name is Tori Johnson, and I work at then Library of Congress. I'm the head archival Librarian, and occasional photo journalist for the Washington Post. Most of my stories involve essays on historical figures - they come to me for that kind of stuff. It's really a dream job, I have to say.
My lastest investigation, though, is not of any really important historical figures. Actually, my current project is more of a...feline persuasion. It's come to my attention that there is a mysterious cat - all black with a white sock on its rear left foot - that seems to be popping up in all these old photos. There was one of Abe Lincoln shaking hands with someone and this cat is sitting in the background. At first I ignored it, but then the cat began to appear in other photos. There it was at the opening of Muskingum University for the 1924 school year, and again in the famous photo of Kennedy in the Dallas parade.
Who was this cat? If this was the same cat, he had to be over 100 years old!
Then, I found something that floored me.
There, in the far background of a famous painting of Napoleon, was the cat. It was plainly sitting as if waiting for something. But there it was, it's white sock glaring at me as if telling me something.
     Find me.
That was it. That was the beginning of it all. I would find out who this cat was, where it came from, and how the hell it got to be over 300 years old.
     This was just the beginning.
