A Grim Glory - ON HOLD

Grim. The creature that lurks in the dark. The creature that does not hesitate to kill. So they say.

5. Him

Merana ran as fast as she could. Even from here she could hear the thundering paws behind her. She couldn't keep up like this. Her legs were tiring. She weaved between trees, having to slow slightly so she didn't run straight for them. He just moved around them. Swiftly. Freely. Carefully. Merana pushed forward, leaping over fallen logs and streams. She glanced behind her... And ran straight into a tree. Searing pain struck through her body. She cried out as she fell, her body landing in a crumpled heap. You could hear the crack as she had collided with it. Her left arm throbbed with intense pain, sending waves of it down to her hand whenever she tried to move it. She had to run. Merana pushed up with her good arm, using the momentum to stagger back onto her feet. She glanced around before setting off at a run once again. She was slower, but he was nowhere to be seen. Shivering, Merana slowed. Her bag felt heavier then before. If she could just rest against this tree... She slumped against it's thick trunk, sliding down into a gap between the roots. Still cradling her arm, she shut her eyes. Just for a few.... minutes...

Merana woke. Sunlight was glowing through the green canopy above her, making the leaves glow. She blinked, scanning the area around her. She noticed a tall figure standing in the shadows of the trees. She drew the knife from her belt instantly and stood up. She instantly regretted it, her head was spinning and her arm was sending new waves of pain through her body. A cool voice came to her mind. Calm. Sit back down. It said. She obeyed it, she wasn't in the mood for disobeying it. She slumped back against the tree, wanting nothing more then to fall back to sleep. The figure moved into a ray of sunlight. Fear ran down her spine. He stepped into the light. Grim stepped forward. His pale skin looked cold, and he didn't seem to fit this warm morning. His red eyes looked at her with curiosity, as if to decide what he would do with her. "Go on then. Finish it." Merana snarled, her dark eyes flashing angrily. Grim regarded her with interest. I assure you, if I had wanted to kill you, I would have killed you in your sleep on the first night, the voice said. Grim's mouth hadn't moved, he just stood there watching her. Merana pressed herself as flat as she could against the tree, trying to get away from him. "Why wouldn't you want to kill me? You killed all of those people on that train.. Including my parents," Grim still watched her, examining her features carefully. His eyes seemed to linger on her arm, a slight sadness in his eyes. So that's why you ran away... The voice said quietly. I didn't kill you because... I couldn't.
