Blinded By You

6 months ago, I lost my eyesight. But life goes on, I attend university in London and one of my best friend's is Niall Horan, from One Direction. But he doesn't know I'm blind. Will he hate me when I tell him? Will he treat me the same? Will I fall for one of his bandmates...

Niall’s POV

I led Kodie into the lobby and directed her towards the receptionist’s desk. Once we reached the desk, Kodie placed her hands on the deck and waited as Margaret finished what she was doing. “Hi, how may I help you?” She asked without looking up.

“I have an appointment with Mr. Cowell at 11 o’ clock,” Kodie answered.

Margaret began typing before she looked up at Kodie, “He’ll be with you shortly.” Then she turned to me; every time I came to this building she would go out of her way to talk to me. She was really sweet and definitely a hard worker. “And how are you today Mr. Horan?” She asked me.

I smiled at her, “I’m doing very well, thanks. And I said to call me Niall.”

“I know, but my job requires it.” Margaret explained. I nodded before taking Kodie’s hand and leading her to a seat. Once she sat down, Kodie’s hands went straight to the bottom of her shirt where she wrung it in between her hands; a telltale sign she was really nervous.

I took her hands in between my own, “Kodie, relax. You don’t need to worry about anything. It’s all going to work out, I promise.”

“You don’t know that. What if I screw up? Or what if he tells me I’m not good enough? I don’t think I could handle that?” She let out in a breath.

Before I could answer, Simon came around the corner. “Niall, what are you doing here?” He said before hugging me.

“I came for moral support for Kodie,” I told him and he smiled at me.

“Ah, yes.” Simon said and Kodie stood up. “It’s nice to see you again; I can’t wait to see what you show me today.”

“It’s nice to see you too,” Kodie replied with a smile. Simon began to walk away, but Kodie remained where she was.

“Niall, can you lead me there? I wouldn’t ask, but I don’t want to make a fool of myself,” Kodie whispered to me.

I gave her a soft smile, “Of course and don’t worry about asking for help, it doesn’t mean you’re weak, okay.”

She nodded before I leaned in closer to her and she wrapped a small hand around my upper arm. The places where her hand touched my arm seemed to be set on fire; tingles shot up and down my arm making me shiver.

Trying to ignore my body’s reactions to her proximity, I followed Simon and he led us into one of the recording booths. While Simon sat down at the chair outside, I walked with Kodie into the sound booth and helped her put the headphones on. She still looked scared so I hugged her and kissed her forehead. “Don’t worry, just breathe and kill it.”

Kodie nodded and gave me a hesitant smile. I stepped out of the booth and sat next to Simon, I hit the play button and the music flowed into her headphones and through the room. I smiled as Kodie opened her mouth and her flawless voice came through the speakers.

I remember years ago,

Someone told me I should take

Caution when it comes to love,

I did, I did.

And you were strong and I was not,

My illusion, my mistake;

I was careless, I forgot,

I did

I snuck a peek at Simon and he had a calm look on her face and was slowly starting to nod in time with the music. I grinned to myself; he likes her, just like I knew he would.

Tell them all I know now,

Shout it from the rooftops,

Write it on the skyline,

All we had is gone now;

Tell them I was happy,

And my heart is broken,

All my scars are open,

Tell them what I hope would be

Impossible, impossible

Impossible, impossible

Simon turned down the volume a little and turned to me. “What do you think of her voice? I mean if you weren’t friends with her.”

“Honestly, if I heard her voice for the first time, not knowing it was her, I would probably think she had one of the best and most unique voices I’ve heard.” I answered him honestly. “Kodie has the voice that can sing a variety of genres and sounds amazing no matter what.”

He nodded thoughtfully, “I noticed that, too. She has an impeccable voice and the difference between the song she sang when I first saw her to this is quite the change, but her voice has no problem making the change.” Simon turned up the volume again.

And if you’re down with embarrassing me,

On your own you can go ahead, tell them

Tell them all I know now,

Shout it from the rooftops,

Write it on the skyline,

All we had is gone now;

Tell them I was happy,

And my heart is broken,

All my scars are open,

Tell them what I hope would be

Impossible, impossible,

Impossible, impossible,

Impossible, impossible,

Impossible, impossible!

As she went into the last repetition Simon turned to me with a smile. “And do you think her blindness will prevent her from do anything that is necessary in this business, like concerts or signings?”

I shook my head fervently, “There is not a chance that she would let something like that get in the way. She is seriously determined and hardworking and never lets anything get in her way.” He nodded at my statement as Kodie finished the song. I went in to the booth to help her disentangle herself from the wires, more than once Louis had gotten himself wrapped up in them. Once I had done that, we went back into the room with Simon.

“I’d like to congratulate you because if you are willing, I would like to give you a record deal.” Simon said.

Kodie stood there with her mouth hanging open, opening and closing with no sound coming out. I nudged her side and she finally spoke up. “That would be incredible, thank you so, so much.” Kodie blurted out.

After they signed some papers, Kodie asking for my help occasionally, she and I were able to leave. As soon as we were back at my car, she jumped into my arms in screamed in my ear. Then she proceeded to cover my face in kisses saying, “Thank you,” in between them. I laughed along with her, but my heart raced and I wished we could stay like this forever.
