Blinded By You

6 months ago, I lost my eyesight. But life goes on, I attend university in London and one of my best friend's is Niall Horan, from One Direction. But he doesn't know I'm blind. Will he hate me when I tell him? Will he treat me the same? Will I fall for one of his bandmates...

Niall’s POV

As soon as the music started playing Kodie yelled, “LA LA LA LA LA!” at the top of her lungs. I quickly covered her mouth with my hand so the boys could watch her video. She licked my hand to get me to let go, but I was as stubborn as she was and didn’t move my hand.

She mumbled something, but I couldn’t understand what she said. Knowing her, she was probably cussing me out. Oh well.

I kept my hand on her mouth and watched the boys’ reactions. Their eyes were glued to the computer screen, mouths open, trying to form words. I laughed to myself; when I first heard her sing I think I had the same expression.

I first heard her sing about 2 years before I auditioned for X-Factor. Kodie had been in the shower and her mom let me up to wait for her. She had been singing and when she got out I made her sing for me. We sang together after that and I tried to convince her to tryout, but we all know how far I got on that mission.

The music stopped and I removed my hand from her mouth and watched as the boys tried to say something. To say the least they were stunned.

Kodie had a panicked look on her face and whispered, “See I told you. I’m not that good of a singer.”

“Wait for it,” I whispered back. As if on cue the lads started talking at once.

“You’re so good.”

“How come we’ve never heard you before today?”

Kodie had the biggest smile on her face. I know the lads’ approval made her feel like a much better singer. I can understand though. It meant more when it came from an artist and I didn’t count because I was her friend first and would always support her no matter what.

“Thanks guys,” she said, “Niall, can you let me up now?”

“Wha-Oh yeah. Sorry.” I quickly let her go and directed her towards the couch.

“Now you have to sing for us live,” Zayn told her. Her head snapped towards him, “What?!” He nodded, then remembering she couldn’t see him he told her yes.

“What song?” Kodie asked.

“Have you covered Call Me Maybe?” Liam asked. Kodie shook her head. “Then sing that.”

Kodie shrugged her shoulders, “Alright.”

“Wait! Hold on a second,” I ran out of the room to grab my guitar. It’s been so long since we played and sang together. I ran back into the room with my guitar in hand and sat across from her on my other sofa.

I see Liam pull out his phone and hold it up, taking a video. He catches my eye and puts a finger to his lips telling me not to say anything. I nodded and counted down for Kodie, “4, 3, 2, 1.”

She began, bouncing her knees to the beat:

I threw a wish in the well
Don't ask me, I'll never tell
I looked to you as it fell
And now you're in my way

I trade my soul for a wish
Pennies and dimes for a kiss
I wasn't looking for this
But now you're in my way

She grinned and started fanning herself, going along with the lyrics. Now this is the Kodie I know. Crazy and fun.

Your stare was holding
Ripped jeans, skin was showing
Hot night, wind was blowing
Where you think you're going baby?

Kodie jumped up and began jumping around.
Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy
But here's my number, so call me maybe
It's hard to look right, at you baby
But here's my number, so call me maybe

Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy
But here's my number, so call me maybe
And all the other boys, try to chase me
But here's my number, so call me maybe

She struck a pose,

You took your time with the call
I took no time with the fall
You gave me nothing at all, but still you're in my way
I beg and borrow and steal
At first sight and it's real
I didn't know I would feel it, but it's in my way

Kodie spun around in circles, dancing around the room. I noticed she was getting closer to the coffee table and I soon as I noticed, Zayn reached forward and pulled it out of her way.

Your stare was holding,
Ripped jeans, skin was showing,
Hot night, wind was blowing,
Where you think you're going, baby?

Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy,
But here's my number, so call me maybe.
It's hard to look right, at you baby,
But here's my number, so call me maybe.

Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy,
But here's my number, so call me maybe.
And all the other boys, try to chase,
But here's my number, so call me maybe.

Kodie felt her way back to the couch she was sitting before. She climbed up to sit on the top of the couch and turned around to face us.

Before you came into my life I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad... I missed you so, so bad
Before you came into my life I missed you so bad
And you should know that... I missed you so, so bad

It's hard to look right, at you baby
But here's my number, so call me maybe

She shook her head, pretending to play the drums.

Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy
But here's my number, so call me maybe
And all the other boys, try to chase me,
But here's my number, so call me maybe

Before you came into my life I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad... I missed you so, so bad
Before you came into my life I missed you so bad
And you should know that
So call me maybe

Kodie struck a final pose and I stopped playing. The boys and I started clapping for her. Man, I missed hanging out with her in Ireland.

The buys were still whistling and she bowed. “Thank you, thank you, thank you very much,” she said, trying to sound like Elvis.

“Can you sign in to your YouTube account? I want to reply to some of your fans,” Liam asked Kodie.

She nodded, “Yeah, no problem.” Liam handed her the laptop and she began typing, “Here you go.”

Liam scrolled through some of the comments. “Look at all of these: ‘you’re an amazing singer’ , ‘we love you’ , ‘why aren’t you famous’. Everybody loves you, Kodie.”

“The fans that watch my cover videos are incredibly sweet. They always tell me I have a really good voice, that I should have my own album and that I’m really pretty. I couldn’t ask for anyone better to be supporting me.” Kodie told us.

“Well, no one can argue that you have a great voice and that you’re pretty,” Harry replied with a smirk.

I glared at him and he just grinned back at me.

“Thanks,” Kodie replied. Liam was still typing on my laptop.

“Holy shit,” Harry shouted, “You have close to 1 million views on your channel!”

“Wait, what?!” Kodie exclaimed, “No way!”

“So who has two thumbs and was right about you singing? This guy!” I pointed to myself.

“Yeah, yeah. You’re smart; it’s probably why leprechauns can hide their pot of gold and we can never find the end of the rainbow,” she replied. The boys broke out laughing and I cracked a smile. “Now go get me food before Louis comes back and makes us do God knows what,” Kodie told me.
