Kodie’s POV

I woke up, slightly disoriented before I remembered that I had come over to Niall’s flat and I had fallen asleep on the couch. Patting the seat next to me, I could tell that Niall wasn’t next to me and it was silent so I didn’t think he was downstairs.

“Niall?” I called out. No response.

I wonder where he went; he usually woke me up before he went somewhere. I got up and made my way to the kitchen because my stomach was growling. Cautiously, I felt my way to the first cupboard on the right side of the refrigerator. I smiled when I felt the cereal box; when we were younger and I’d eat breakfast at Niall’s house, his mom always kept the cereal next to the fridge.

Next, I opened the fridge to get the milk out. I cautiously reached in and felt around until I grasped the milk carton. I may or may not have also knocked 1 or 5 things over as I got the milk. Carefully, I poured the cereal and milk into a bowl before sitting down and eating. Halfway through my breakfast, I heard the front door open. I had just put a big spoonful in my mouth when I heard Niall shout, “Kodie!” His yell was followed by thundering footsteps coming towards the kitchen.

“There you are!” Niall exclaimed. As I looked in the direction of his voice, he suddenly wrapped his arms around me. “I thought you left!”

I shook my head, “Nope, can’t get rid of me that easily.” He laughed and I set my spoon down so I could ask him where he had gone. But before I could, I heard him chewing on something that suspiciously sounded like my cereal. I slapped him, “Get your own food!”

“This is my food,” he countered.

“Well, I poured it so now it’s my food.” I said, sticking my tongue out at him. He just huffed and I heard him get up, he poured himself some cereal before settling in the chair next to me.

“Where’d you go so early this morning?” I asked.

“Uh…nowhere,” Niall answered with a cough.

“Uh huh, that’s not suspicious at all.” I retorted. “Just tell me. I’m not going to get mad at you, I promise.”

“I went to talk to Harry,” Niall said slowly as if gauging my reaction. At the mention of his name, the Lucky Charms had gotten stuck in my throat.

“Oh,” I choked out.

“I did kick his ass though, so it all worked out.” Niall said.

If anything happened to me, Niall would fix it. He was always there to protect me and the thought of that made me feel happy and safe. As I that thought crossed my mind, a slow smile spread across my face.

“Why are you smiling? I thought you would be mad at me,” Niall said sounding confused.

I shook my head, “How can I be mad at you when you beat up one of your best mates for me? And I can’t say I don’t approve of violence. I mean, you really should avoid violence, but when it comes to someone you care about, all bets are off. You saw how I was when Dan cheated on Rose; I wanted to chop his balls off.”

“That’s true,” Niall chuckled. “But I’m glad that you came over last night. Are you feeling better?”

“I guess. It still hurts that the entire time he was just trying to win a bet, but I guess I should’ve been more cautious,” I shrugged.

Niall came closer and wrapped his arms around me and I turned, burying my face against his sweatshirt, relaxing in his embrace. There was something about Niall’s hugs that made me want to stand in his arms forever and never let go. He buried his face in my hair and breathed deeply. “By the way,” he said against my head. “Simon wants to know if you want to try and write a song for your first single.”

“I suppose I could try. I’ve never written a song before though. I don’t even know where to start,” I admitted.

“I felt the same way when we first started writing,” Niall told me.

“How do you guys think of what to write?” I asked. He was silent so I pulled away slightly, “Niall?”

“I don’t really know. It took us a while before we got to where we are now with writing. The only thing I suggest is writing about something that’s close to your heart or an experience you’ve gone through and how you have dealt with it.” Niall answered.

I nodded; that seemed like a good way to brainstorm ideas. “I’ll work on that later. Today I want to spend time with my best friend before you go away on tour. What do you want to do?” I asked him, releasing my grip on him.

“Nandos!” Niall practically shouted in my ear.

“Your wish is my command!” I announced. “But I do need a pair of clothes. I probably look like a zombie.”

“You don’t, but I’ll get you a jumper and sweatpants. Do you want to wear your jacket?” Niall asked. I nodded and I heard him head upstairs.

It wasn’t long before he was back in the kitchen handing me some clothes. I went to the bathroom and changed out of my dirty clothes and into Niall’s clothes. As I pulled the shirt over my head, the smell of Niall’s cologne filled my nose and I breathed deeply. I walked out of the bathroom and to the living room where I assumed Niall would be waiting for me. I didn’t hear anything so I turned around. I was going to walk into the kitchen thinking that would be the other most likely place he would be. Before I could take another step, two fingers poked my sides. I let out a squeak before slapping Niall’s hands away. “I guess you don’t want Nandos after all. You’re being mean to me.” I pouted.

“No! I promise I’ll behave! We must go to Nandos because I haven’t eaten there in almost 2 weeks. It’s been torture.” Niall pleaded.

“Then let’s get our Irish asses into the car,” I told him. “Will you let me drive?” Niall stopped short, making me walk straight into his back. “Ouch! I think your back broke my nose.” I said, rubbing my poor little nose.

“You want me to let you drive?” Niall asked incredulously as he took my hand and walked to the car.

I raised my eyebrows to where they were probably visible over the top of my sunglasses, and then burst out laughing. “Did you actually think I was serious?” I laughed. “Oh my God, I’m not stupid enough to even attempt driving; that would be disastrous.”

Niall let out a short laugh, “Don’t scare me like that. I was afraid you were going to hurt my baby.”

“I would never,” I placed my hand over my heart. “Now shut it and drive, I’m hungry.”

“Bossy,” Niall said.

“You know it,” I retorted.

20 minutes later Niall and I were seated at a booth in Nandos and had already ordered our food. Right now we were just talking about the most random things. Intentional or not, Niall was doing a really good job of keeping my mind off the incident with Harry.

Halfway through our meal a group of girls came over to the table to ask for Niall’s autograph and a picture. Being the person he is, he agreed and talked to them for a bit before they left. A few of them even talked to me, which was kind of surprising. Not saying directioners are rude, but it was surprising how some of them knew me from YouTube. From what they said, I gathered that one or two of the boys had tweeted a couple of my videos. They even asked for a picture with me which I agreed to.

Once we had finished eating, Niall and I went for a walk around London. It was still bitter cold out so I huddled into my jacket and Niall’s jumper. We walked around for a while with no particular destination in mind. I think we were both enjoying the time away from everything and just enjoying each other’s company.

By 4 o’clock we both decided to go back to my flat so we could have a sleepover with Rose. I know she needed to hang out with friends to get her mind off Dan and Niall was definitely the one who could get her to lighten up.

When we made it to my flat, Rose was having a movie marathon. “Hey Rosie Posie, can we join you tonight?” Niall asked her.

She nodded and I settled myself on one side of Rose while Niall sat on the other. I leaned against Rose’s shoulder as I listened to the movie playing, Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Rose always watched this movie when she was upset.

“Who wants Chinese food?” Niall asked when his stomach growled.

“Me!” Rose and I chorused.

Niall called the Chinese restaurant and ordered as Rose and I stayed on the couch. Not even 10 minutes later the doorbell rang which I answered. I paid the man the $25 and brought the food over to our seats on the couch. It wasn’t long before I heard Niall’s snores and I smiled as I dozed off to sleep with my 2 best friends next to me.
