5. Chapter 4

The following days continued like the rest, Sophie never heard or saw anything else, and slowly the whole house had been re-painted and all boxes unpacked of all belongings.

“Take these boxes up to the attic, please Billy,” his mum asked, as she handed him several large cardboard boxes full of brushes and pots of paint.

Billy sighed as he took the boxes, that he felt were much too heavy for his 12 year old arms, and began to ascended the stairs, as he went up he could hear his dad talking to his mum “It took a while, but our new house is finally completed.”

“Yeah, it was hard work, but it looks fantastic,” she replied.

Billy smiled, it did take a while to complete, summer had only just begun when they moved in, now it was almost over, but he had to agree with his mum the house looked great. As Billy put the boxes down to open the attic door he thought about his friends back in London, he missed them and as it was near the end of the holidays, and the house was now finished, he decided he’d ask his parents if he could ring them up, and see if they could come up and see him, with that in mind he picked the boxes back up and walked into the attic. Billy was shocked when he entered the attic, there was so much junk in there and none of it belonged to his family. ‘It must have been left behind from the other family’ Billy thought, as he placed the boxes down, and began to make his way to the attic door, but just as he reached the door, he heard a strange noise, he turned back around and saw a spectral looking figure, the figure saw him, Billy stood frozen for a moment, then the figure made a silent run for him, Billy hid behind a stack of boxes, before backing out of the room, when he was finally out of the room he closed the door and locked it, Billy collapsed in front of the door he was breathing hard and sweat was pouring down his face.

After a few minutes, Billy had finally caught his breathe, he got up off the floor, and ran down the stairs to the lounge, where Sophie and Emma were now sitting watching ‘Beauty and the Beast’.

Billy burst through the door, Emma and Sophie looked up at Billy’s abrupt entrance.

“I’ve just seen a ghost,” he said, pointing in the direction of upstairs.

Emma and Sophie looked at each other, before starting to laugh.

“What’s so funny?” he asked crossly.

“You expect us to believe you, when you didn’t believe us?” asked Emma, as she stood up to face him.

Billy felt very angry, at his sisters laughing at him, so he walked over to Sophie, who was still sitting on the settee, with her teddy, grabbed her wrist and pulled her onto her feet, he then dragged her to the door grabbing Emma’s wrist as they passed her.

“Alright,” he said “If you don’t believe me, then I’ll show you.” he dragged them up the stairs, still clutching their wrists, when they reached the top of the stairs, they moved towards the attic door, Billy let his sisters wrists go, so he could unlock the door, he opened the door, and pulled the girls towards the stack of boxes.

“Right now,” he said whispering “Just watch, and keep quiet.”

Emma huffed, “But we could be here for ages.”

Billy glared at his sister, before intently watching the scene before him, 20 minutes later, Billy saw the ghostly figure, he had seen earlier, he nudged Sophie and Emma to look and they all watched the ghost walk around the room.
