Summer Love *Harry Styles Love Story*

Marissa is determined to have the most amazing summer ever. Her family, along with her cousin, Louis Tomlinson's family go up to a lake house every summer. This year, Louis brings his four best mates. There's just one problem. Marissa can't stand Harry. And the feeling is mutual.

14. The Truth

Marissa's POV

"I'm going to the airport to pick up Kaycee, who wants to come with?" I asked walking into the basement where they were all playing video games. It's July and it's beautiful outside and their sitting in here playing games. Plus we're near the beach! We should be outside!

I got no response, the boys too involved in their game to hear what I was asking. I sighed, walking over to the TV and unplugging their X-Box. I rolled my eyes hearing them yell and whine and complain.

"I'm going to the airport to pick up Kaycee," I repeated. "Who wants to come with me?"

No response again.

After another few seconds of silence, a deep husky British accent spoke up. "I'll go."

I grinned at Harry, actually really glad he was coming along. Louis smirked at me giving me a wink. I rolled my eyes, hoping my face wasn't as red and hot as it felt.

"Anyone else?"

Wow, these boys are good at answering questions!

"Alright, let's go."

"Race you to the car!" Harry exclaimed running ahead of me.

"Harry! That's not fair!" I yelled running after him.

He obviously got to the car first. I smirked and pressed the button on my keys locking all the doors. I heard him whine as I walked towards the car, unlocking my door and getting in myself, before unlocking his.

"I win," I smiled twirling my keys around my finger before starting the car up.

"You cheated!" Harry exclaimed. I laughed.

"So did you! We're even now," I grinned. He rolled his eyes sticking his tongue out at me. I laughed doing the same to him.

"Marissa?" Harry asked after a few moments of nothing but the radio playing.

"Hmm?" I hummed in response, not taking my eyes off the road.

"You know, we really know nothing about each other," he stated.

He was right. I really don't know anything about him and he knows nothing about me. Other than the obvious, like I know his family and he knows mine, but that's about it.

"True, what do you want to know?"

He shrugged. "What's your favorite color?"

"Pink," I answered. "You?"

"What music do you listen to? Other than your own, obviously," I said with a smile.

"Coldplay," Harry grinned.

I raised my eyebrows. ''Really? I love Coldplay!"

"Seriously? Favorite song?" he asked, both of us freaking out a bit about that fact that we had something in common.

"Oh my gosh, I don't know! I love Fix You, Viva La Vida, Clocks, The Scientist, all of them," I told him.

"Same! I can't believe we never knew this about each other!" Harry exclaimed.

"Have you seen them in concert before?" I asked him.

He nodded. "Yeah, it was amazing. Best concert I've ever been to by far," he said. "have you?"

I shook my head. "I wish! You're so lucky."

He grinned. "Well, maybe sometime I'll take you to see them," he winked.

My jaw dropped. He would do that for me? "No, you don't have to do that. I don't want you spending money like that on me."

He rolled his eyes. "I promise you, it won't hurt me financially one bit," he said. "it'd be cool, right?"

I nodded. "Yeah, it'd be a lot of fun!"

I didn't think he was being serious. He probably isn't. Knowing us, by next week we'll be fighting again. I hope not, but it's happened a lot. One minute we're friends, the next we're worst enemies.

We continued fangirling a bit over Coldplay, and then we started asking real questions again. I was actually learning a lot about him. His middle name is Edward, he's a cat person, his parents split when he was 7 years old, before One Direction he wanted to go into law, and lots more. He's not as bad as I thought.

"So Marissa," Harry started. It was his turn to ask a question. "what's your biggest regret?"

Damn. This is going to get really emotional, really fast. "I have quite a few, actually," I said softly. "I regret everything I ever did in the 8th grade. I regret falling in love. I regret all of last summer and I regret ever trusting anyone," I admitted.

Harry gulped. "What-what happened? All of those things you regret...why do you regret them?" he asked nervously.

I bit my lip, staying quiet for a few moments, trying to figure out how to explain all of this. The tension in the air was growing thick, very thick.

"You-you don't have to answer, it's fine."

I shook my head. I'm sick of keeping things inside. The only person I've ever actually told the full story to is Kaycee. Yes, my parents don't know everything, and neither does Louis. But honestly, I trust Harry. I don't know why, but I feel safe around him. Like I've known him forever and can tell him anything.

Like he'll always be there for me.

"Middle school in general is never fun. Especially when you're not liked by most people. Society is already completely fucked up, so were the people I hung out with and the people I didn't hang out with. They weren't my real friends. I did things I really shouldn't have done, just so I could be part of their group. So I could feel like I was actually wanted somewhere for once. We got in a lot of trouble. We did bad things, things I'm not proud of and things ill probably never forget.

"Once we got into high school, everything changed. I wasn't friends with that group anymore, which was totally a good thing. I wanted to be that person that everyone liked, the one who no matter what kind of mood she was in would be nice to everyone. Well, that lasted barely the first day of freshman year. My old 'friends' became popular and ditched me, also turning all of their new popular friends against me. Soon, most of the school hated me. Kaycee was one of the only people who stuck by me. We were friends throughout elementary school but in middle school we kind of drifted apart. Then in high school we started talking again. I thought things were going great, until I started getting notes in my locker pointing out everything about me I was already insecure about. Obviously, they were from my ex-friends.

"I didn't tell any teachers or any adults or asked for help because they were blackmailing me. Remember, we were best friends for three years. They knew a lot of my secrets. I don't really know why they felt the need to ruin my high school experience, or make me feel like complete shit all the time, but somehow I guess it entertained them. They liked watching me suffer. Soon, those notes turned into texts, and after that they would follow me home shouting insults at me. It was like I couldn't get away from it.

"Last year is when I started dating Conner. We went out for the longest time. He was also one of my only other friends, though he was quite popular. Conner was just really nice to everyone. Even me. I felt special. Like he really cared. Turns out he only cared for Kaycee.

"Last summer was probably the hardest time of my life. Conner and I were starting to hit a rough patch in our relationship and he ended up ending it. I was a mess. The bullying just got worse after that. Now it was becoming physical. After school let out, it bought things would change. I was depressed. I honestly wanted to end my life. I was starving myself and almost became anorexic, but they caught it in time. Thanks to Louis, for noticing and taking me to get checked out. It was really hard on Louis, and I regret hurting him the most. He was the one reason I didn't end it. But if I could have without hurting the people I loved, I would have done it in a heartbeat." I never took my eyes off the road, too scared to see Harry's reaction. A few moments of silence past before Harry turned to look at me with watery eyes.

"Wow," he said quietly. "I wasn't expecting all of that."

"It's been a while since I've been able to let everything out like that. It feels amazing, so refreshing," I sighed.

"Marissa, I had no idea you were going through all of that. And I was horrible to you too. I didn't see you very much but when I did I made sure I was a jerk," Harry said looking down.

"Don't be sorry. It's not your fault. And trust me, you were no where near as bad as everyone else."

"I'm really happy you trusted me with this," Harry said softly placing his hand on my knee. I turned, looking into his glossy, sorrow filled eyes for the first time. "I can tell you haven't told many people about this."

I nodded, not losing our eye contact.   His eyes were so beautiful. So green and bright. They were mesmerizing. I could look into them all day and never get bored.

Just then, a beep from the cars around us caused us to jump and turn away. I realized the light had turned green and I stepped on the gas pedal, blushing madly.

The rest of the car ride was silent other than the sound of the radio in the background.

When we reached the airport, I noticed lots of people with cameras waiting by the doors. I parked the car and looked over to Harry who was swearing under his breath. "How did they even find out I was coming!?"

As we walked up towards the doors, Harry grabbed my hand, holding it tightly. "Stay right behind me and don't let go of my hand," he said sternly. I nodded, squeezing his hand lightly.

"Harry! What are you doing here?"

"Is this your girlfriend?"

"What does Louis think about this?"

"Who is she?"

Questions were fired at Harry as we squeezed through the crowd. He ignored every single one of the loud paparazzi, the flashing lights becoming blinding. I don't know how he dealt with this every where he went. It was quite overwhelming.

It only got worse as we entered the airport. There was barely any space to move, the paparazzi crowding us. A couple fans were attempting to get through, but these paps just won't let go. They'll do anything for their money. It's disgusting. Celebrities get absolutely no privacy.

We finally got through, and into the waiting area. Harry led me over to the seats finally releasing my hand. "I'm sorry about that," he said. "they don't know when to stop."

I glanced over to where the security was holding the paparazzi back. "It's insane," I said quietly. "how can you live like that? That happens everywhere you go."

He shrugged. "You get used to it, I guess."

I nodded, reaching for my phone and checking the time. "Kaycee's flight should be landing in about ten minutes," I told him. He nodded.

After a few moments of silence, Harry spoke up. "Marissa, I'm really sorry. I know I've already apologized, but I want you to know I mean it. I don't know why I was so mean to you, and some of the things I said were terrible. I really am sorry," he said looking over to me and placing his hand on my thigh.

"Harry, seriously, it's fine. I know you're sorry and I know you regret it. I'm sorry too. I was pretty terrible to you as well," I said.

"I had no idea you were going through all of that. Louis mentioned you were having a tough time, but I just assumed it was a bad break-up or something. Nothing like what you told me earlier."

"It's okay. I didn't want you to know. I didn't want anyone to know. It's not your fault," I told him. He really liked blaming this entire thing on him, even though he was not the worst person to me. "Everything's okay now," I smiled, leaning over and wrapping him up in a hug. He sighed, hugging me back tightly, resting his chin on top of my head.

"Marissa!" I heard that familiar voice exclaim, along with running footsteps. I jumped out of Harry's warm embrace, running over to my best friend.

"Where are your bags?" I asked, looking down and noticing her hands were free.

"Oh, Conner's got them," she smiled looking backward where Conner was wheeling two suitcases.

"You brought Conner?" I asked, trying my hardest not to sound mean. I felt someone wrap their arms around my waist from behind instantly feeling butterflies.

"Yeah, I didn't think you'd mind," Kaycee grinned as Conner now stood next to her.

"Conner," I said with a fake smile. "great to see you again."

"Uh, you too, Marissa."

I could tell he was uncomfortable and so was I. Kaycee, this was not one of your best ideas.

"Hello Harold," Kaycee smirked. "nice to meet you in person."

Harry chuckled, resting his chin on my shoulder. "Nice to meet you too, Kaycee."

"Okay, well we should get going," I said, looking nervously up at Harry.

"Just do the same as before," he told me, gripping my hand.

We followed Harry through the crowd of people, ignoring their questions and comments. "Wow," Kaycee breathed once we were out by my car. "that was intense."

Harry shrugged again. "I'm used to it."

"Harry!" I heard a few girls scream. We turned to see two girls around the same age as us running towards us. "Can we get a picture?" The taller one of the two asked.

"Of course," Harry grinned.

I let go of Harry's and so he could take the picture with the girls. "Could you take it for us?" The shorter one asked me nicely.

"Sure," I smiled taking the camera from her.

I snapped the picture handing the girl her camera back. "Is that your girlfriend?" I heard one of them whisper. I rolled my eyes. Every girl he's seen with probably gets questioned about that.

"Does this happen a lot when you guys are out?" Kaycee asked as she leaned against the car, her hand intertwined with Conner's.

I shrugged glancing back to Harry talking to the girls. "Sometimes. But he's so sweet to the fans. It doesn't bother me."

Kaycee nodded while Conner stayed silent, looking everywhere but anywhere near me. I guess this is how the next week is going to be like.
