In the Stairs of Hogwarts

The members of One Direction living their lives in the halls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. With the Tri-Wizard tournament coming up, and a creepy new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, how much trouble will these sixth years get in to?

2. Change at Hogwarts

“I love watching the first years get sorted. Every year, we make bets while the kids are standing in line on which house they will be placed in, and every year the Sorting Hat switches it up.” Louis was talking to Harry, Eleanor, and Cindy, but none of them were paying attention. Harry was busy placing silent bets from across the room with his friend Niall in the Hufflepuff house. Cindy was eyeing Jessie and Andie at their tables trying to use telepathy to tell them how creepy their new Dark Arts professor was. Eleanor was just staring at Louis in admiration and love, pretending to listen and adding the occasional “Absolutely” or nodding her head.

Harry, Louis, Eleanor, and Cindy were all in the Slytherin house. Cindy was a prefect, and extremely good student. Harry and Louis were best friends who had met at quidditch tryouts in their first year. They both made the team, which was unheard of for first years, and became inseparable ever since. Harry is the Keeper and Louis is a Chaser and the team captain. Harry was pretty sure Louis was dating Eleanor when they first met, but no one was really sure when the couple first got together. They were one of those couples that no one knew the details, but everyone knew they were perfect together. Cindy and Harry met in their Potions class in their first year and were great friends. During their fourth year, Harry decided that his feelings had gone past friendship for Cindy, and wanted to be more than friends. Of course, Harry was to afraid to mess things up, so he didn’t gain the courage to ask her out until the beginning of their fifth year. Little did Harry know, Cindy felt the same way and they’ve been happily together ever since.

“Oliver Murphy”

Professor McGonagall was reading off the names as they sat in the stool to be sorted. Every once in a while you would hear a grunt of disappointment or joy out of the boys determining whether or not they had one the bet for the given first year. After Oliver was sorted into Hufflepuff, Liam Payne of the Gryffindor house looked over at Louis and stuck out his tongue to imply that he had won and Louis had lost.

By the end of the ceremony, it seemed that the boys broke even on their bets and were quite happy that dinner would soon show up in front of them. Just as Cindy was about to express her concerns about the new Dark Arts teacher to Harry, Professor Dumbledore stood up.

“Good evening, students. Welcome to our new first years, and welcome back to out returning pupils. Before we start our feast, I would like to go over some rules as well as address some changes that will be taking place this year.”

Dumbledore continued with the rules and, as usual, the group of student tuned out.

“I wonder what changes he could be talking about.” Harry said, with an inquizetive crinkle above his nose.

“Well, one of them is bound to be that new creepy professor, who I assume will teach Dark Arts. I don’t know what it is about that man, but I get an awful feeling when I look at him.” Cindy genuinely seemed concerned and Harry could tell. He rubbed her back and assured her that they would do research later.

“I, for one, hope they are redoing the bathrooms in our common rooms. Seriously. They haven’t been updated since my grandmother came here.” stated Eleanor plainly. Louis and Cindy laughed while Harry shook his head disapprovingly. Then he smiled to show he was just playing around.

“..and as long as you follow those simple rules, we will all get along fine! Now, for the changes.” Hushed whispers from all the upperclassmen began at once. “Silence, please. Thank you. First, I’d like to introduce Professor Erikson. He will be residing here as our new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Please give him a warm Hogwarts welcome!” The creepy man with short, slicked-back, brown hair stood up. Cindy could see him better now. He had prominent cheek bones and a slightly pointy nose. He couldn’t have been more than 35. This man gave her, and Harry, a very bad feeling. Dumbledore went back to discussing the changes.

“Thank you. That was a lovely welcome, I’m sure. Now, the other professors and I have a very large announcement to make. This year, we have decided to bring back the Tri-Wizard Tournament.” An explosion of conversation broke out in the hall. “Enough! Let me explain to those who are unaware! The Tri-Wizard tournament was a tournament held a long time ago between three different schools who would choose a wizard from each to represent them in competing for the title of the most skilled wizard. There would be a few events that would take place for the competitors to prove themselves the best, and at the end, we would crown a victor. However, we have decided to do things a little differently this time around. For starters, all three wizards who compete will be chosen from Hogwarts. We will not be bringing in any other schools.” This caused some cheering to erupt in the hall. You know, school pride sort of cheering. “Second, we have lowered the age in which you can enter your name into the Goblet of Fire. We are now allowing Sixth and Seventh years to enter. Not only Seventh.” Again, cheering erupted in the hall. The group of friends were exchanging looks all throughout the crowd. The girlfriends knew what this meant, and they got a bit concerned about what their head-strong boyfriends would do. “That brings me to the Goblet of Fire. The Goblet is a magical artifact that will only accept the names of students who are eligible. This means if you try to outsmart it, you won’t succeed. There will be consequences if anyone under year 6 attempts to enter their names. After everyone who desired to enter their name has done so, we will bring the Goblet up to where the Sorting Hat lays now. At dinner of that evening, the Goblet will choose the three students who will participate in the tournament. Keep in mind, entering your name into the Goblet should not be taken lightly. If your name is chose, you must compete. And this tournament is not an easy one. You will get hurt. Oh! And of course, another tradition of the tournament is that we will hold a Yule Ball on Christmas Eve. That is all. If anyone has any other questions feel free to ask any professor. Let your feast begin!”

It took everyone a moment to snap back into reality. You could tell that Harry and Louis were in their heads thinking about what would happen if they were chosen. You could also tell that Cindy and Eleanor were extremely concerned for their boyfriends’ well being. But they all cleared their minds temporarily, and went back to the feast.

“I think I’m going to enter my name.” Andie suddenly said as the group was walking down the corridor. Andie was a Gryffindor, she was a prefect, beater on the house quidditch team, and a rather good student. She was dating her best friend, and captain of the Gryffindor quidditch team, Liam. Liam and Andie were the couple that everyone just looked at and said ‘Awe’. They were always teasing each other and jumping on each other’s backs, but between the jokes and rough-housing, they treated each other like a princess and prince. Andie hated to admit it, being a tough and independant girl, but she loved being treated the way Liam treated her. She loved to love and be loved.

“Excuse me? You will not enter your name.” That statement scared Liam. He knew it was coming, because he knew Andie so well, but he didn’t want to hear it.

“Who made you king? I’ll enter my name if I want to. Hey, maybe we will both get chosen and have to fight.” Andie laughed and playfully started punching Liam’s muscular arm. He picked her up and threw her over his shoulder.  “HEY. Put me down! I will fight you!” She started punching his back, but he just kept walking.

“I don’t think it’s a bad idea. I think if any girl has a chance at winning, it’s her. I certainly won’t enter. And I really wish Harry wouldn’t either.” Cindy looked at Harry and gave him the puppy dog eyes that he hates. He squeezed her hand tighter and pulled her close to his body and wrapped his arm around her.

“I’m going to enter, and if I get chosen, I will try to win. I love you, but I want to do this for me. And if I win, think of all the people you can brag to.” Harry said with a wink.

“I already do brag. Just look at you. All these girls be jealous of my man.” Harry and Cindy laughed together and everyone smiled at them being adorable.

“Well, I’d love to enter but I have so many hard classes this year. I just don’t see it realistic.” Zayn was the head of his house, Ravenclaw, in academics. He was so smart, but also a really fun guy to hang around with. Him and his girlfriend, Perrie, were perfect for each other.

“Believe me, I’d rather you didn’t enter. I like my man in one piece, thank you very much.” Perrie stood on her tip-toes and kissed him on the cheek. They went their separate way to the Ravenclaw common room. The rest of them could hear Perrie’s beautiful voice singing some random song as they walked away.

“Why can’t I sound like that? I don’t understand. Anyway, I know Louis’s gonna enter so there is no point in me trying to fight it. I’m just going to be supportive and hope he kicks butt.” Eleanor was always supporting Louis and his crazy ideas.

“This is why I love her. Even if she can’t hold a tune. Ouch! I’m just kidding! You’re perfect!” Louis was talking to Harry and Liam and then Eleanor hit him. Eleanor went running after him down the hallway and they were gone.

“Well I’m going to enter, but if the cup knows what is best, it won’t choose me.” Niall was the captain of the Hufflepuff quidditch team. He was funny and caring, but not the brightest. Everyone loved Niall. No matter who they were. Him and his girlfriend Jessie were newly dating, but still one of the cutest couples at Hogwarts.

“Hey, if you get picked, you will rock that tournament just like you rock quidditch. Keep your head up.” Jessie kissed him and he smiled a big goofy smile.

“See you guys tomorrow in class. Oh man. I really don’t want to start learning again.” Niall took Jessie’s hand and they marched off into the Hufflepuff common room.

“Hey, did you guys notice anything weird about that new DA professor?” Cindy asked Andie and Liam as they sat down on the stairs up to the Gryffindor common room.

“Besides the fact that he needs to wash his hair? I just noticed that he was really creepy. Why?” Andie replied.

“It’s probably nothing, but Cindy and I get a really bad vibe from him. Like he is up to no good. After we have his class tomorrow, we were going to try to do some digging and find out more about him. Wanna join?” Harry asked hopefully. Sneaking around was so much fun with more people.

“I’m in. But after we do that, we should put our names in the Goblet. I think the two of us really have a shot.” Liam said to Harry as they went to do their secret handshake.

“Ahem. I think you meant the three of you.” Cindy said with a huge smirk on her face. She saw that Andie had a glare on her face and her arms crossed when Liam said ‘two of us” to Harry.

“I’m gonna kick your...”

“Watch your mouth!” Liam interrupted Andie with an unexpected kiss. She jumped on his back and made him carry her up the stairs. Cindy and Harry laughed at their friends and said their goodnights. They put their arms comfortably around each other again as they walked in the darkness back to their own common room.
