Little Things

This is about a girl, Emily, and she applies for a part in her school play,Romeo and Juliet. When she finds out her crush has the part of Romeo, all she wants is to play Juliet, but when she's up against the most popular girl in the school, Laura, she thinks she has no chance. Or does she...?

15. The First Rehearsal.

It was the day after our detention, but also the same day as the first set of rehearsals. Me, Rosie, Lauren and Charlotte all made our way to the drama hall. When we arrived, we sat on the seats, facing the stage and we watched other people practicing their scenes. The the teacher called Romeo and Juliet up to do their scene. I quickly walked up onto stage, wanting to show everyone my talent. I could see Louis walking towards the stage, my heartbeat got faster and faster with each step closer he got. When he was walking towards me on stage, my palms got sweaty and i got nervous. What was wrong with me, i had never felt like this before. Louis came to a halt beside me and looked out to the audience of actors and a few backstage people.

"Where shall we start?" His voice sent shivers down my spine, but not bad shivers. It was good shivers.

The teacher looked down at her script, "W're going to start at.." She looked back up, "When Romeo and Juliet first meet, at the party. But i don't want you to follow the lines. I want you to make it up as we go along."

We both nodded. I closed my eyes and the room re-formed it's self. There was now a band in the corner of the room, and people were waking around in elegant clothes. Some were just talking, some having a drink or bite to eat, while others were dancing. Juliet was sat on a chair when she heard a voice behind her, "Excuse me?"

"Yes?" She looked up to see blue eyes and brown, messy hair.

"Is this seat taken?" He asked.

Juliet shook her head, "No."

"Great, then you wouldn't mind if i took it then?" He picked up the chair and turned around. He looked back over his shoulder to see Juliet's mouth dropped wide open.

"Sorry, I'm just kidding." He placed the chair back where it was and sat on it. "I like your mask."

Juliet, of course, had a mask that covered the top half of her face, leaving her lips and cheeks bare. "Thank-you, I made it myself."

"Are you as pretty as that underneath?" He asked.

"I don't know." Juliet could feel her cheeks going red with embarrassment.

"I'm sure you're even prettier."

"Well i couldn't possibly take it off now, just in case I disappoint you."

He laughed, with a merry tone in his voice. "May i ask, what is your name?"

Behind her mask, Juliet felt confident, "Can't you guess?"

"Hmm. Clarice? Evangeline?" He guessed.

"Nothing so fancy." Juliet giggled.

"Nothing so fancy?" He repeated. "Okay. Peggy? Tracey? Kate?"

This boy was so amusing! And good-looking too! "Yes! The last one. That sounds just about right."

"Kate? Are you sure?" He asked. "Can you guess my name?"

"Oh that's not possible."

"Go on. I made a fool of myself, now it's your turn." There was a short pause. "Guess at least once!"

"Okay, Percival?" She guessed.

"Ha! Wrong!"

"I should hope not! That is a ludicrous name!"

"My cousin is called Paris." Juliet said, trying to sound offended.

"Is he ludicrous?"

"No, actually, he's very nice." She said.

"I bet he fancies you." The boy suggested.

"No he doesn't, he's a friend."

"Boys and girls can't be friends!" He argued.

"Of course they can!" Said Juliet.

"Keep guessing."

"Oh i don't know, is it something really silly?"

He nodded, "You couldn't get any sillier!"

"Humperdink?" She said, close to giving up.

"Yes, that's it! How did you guess?!" He smiled and they both fell about laughing.

"You'e not serious are you?" Juliet asked.

"Well neither are you, Kate!"

There was a long pause. And he reached out for her mask. "Show me, please. Take it off."

"Oh, i don't think-"

Just one word made Juliet feel so much. She moved her hands to the ribbon behind her head, and she slid it undone. She lifted off the mask.
