Girl Heart Boy- Time Runs Out

Sarah and Ash are best friends. But none of them could have ever predicted the events that would occur.

Joe's on his way home, and although she tries to hide it, Sarah is ecstatic.

But even that could spell trouble.

3. The Reunion

I managed to reach the beach way before the time that Ashley had set, which perhaps caused my increased surprise when I spotted her buying two hot chocolates from the quaint café in which we always visit. She was laughing with the lovely, elderly couple that owned the small shop; of whom never failed to have a conversation with us both. The sight of them sent me back to the first time we ever visited the 'Ocean Café'. Me and Ash were working on a geography project about coastal maintenance, and were at the beach for five hours (not least spending most of our time chatting to Mr and Mrs Williams). They topped us up with a total of six hot chocolates and baked a triple layered Victoria sponge cake especially, before naming the combination after us.

My trance was soon ceased by the shouting of my name. I didn't process it initially, but eventually shook myself back to reality- looking up to see two bright beaming faces waving at me whilst another shouted my name. I wasn't sure how many times they had called me, but with Mr Williams' deep and booming shouts I'm surprised I was let to miss even one. Naturally, I gave all of them my biggest, cheesiest grin whilst frantically waving in reply. My excitement levels were now through the roof, so I sprinted the rest of the way towards the counter, straight into Ash's outstretched arms for the biggest hug ever.

"I have missed you so much!" My voice was high and staggered after my powerful race to reach my best friend. Her laugh was a joyful sound as she found my hysterics highly amusing, and pulled me back to indicate that I acknowledge the Oceans' owners. "Hi Mrs Williams!" I managed after a minutes break.

"Oh Please, how many times do I have to say it's Gwyneth! You two are very good friends now!" I chuckled through my apology as the kindness of this lady gave me a very warm feeling in the bitter cold weather.

Me and Ashley made our way, with our hot chocolate and cake, to the huge rock that we always sit upon. The view was staggering with the outstanding beauty taking me by surprise yet again. The sun was appearing over the horizon, whilst the sea lay calm and stunning in the cold weather. Our silence reflected greatly the peace that this place brought upon us.

After we had eaten every crumb of our cake, Ash finally broke the silence. "So what's your news then! I'm guessing that it involves Joe?" God she knew me so well, sometimes I wondered if it were too much. I nodded cautiously to her question, not sure if she meant it in a negative way, before seeing her smile that confirmed the opposite.

"He called.... And he's coming back down to see us on Friday." I tried so hard to hide my overriding glee towards the situation. When Joe moved away I told Ash that I wasn't too bothered and that I'd easily get over him, but we both knew that that was a blatant lie through and through. She saw across that, just like she had done now.

"When you say 'us' do you mean 'you'?" She replied with a menacing smile as she easily locked away my attempted dodge of embarrassment.

"No, I mean 'us'. I told you before I'm over him- but that doesn't mean we can't be friends!"

"Oh come on! Quit the act Sarah, you can't fool your best friend! And we both know that when he comes down you two will be on it in minutes!" My avoidance was quite clearly unsuccessful, and she knows full well that I don't get 'on it' with guys the way she did. But I couldn't help myself.

"Why did you come back again?" The answer was all I could think of and our laughter was unstoppable from then on.
