1. over the edge

Teddi's POV:

My mom had her feet proped up on the coffee table lighting up her seventh cigarette in a row.

"You what your problem is..." she began to mumble, putting the bottle to her lips to finish it off. That had to be the last of the second case. "...You need to learn to have fun, ya know let loose.."

My mother's friend "Sparkle" was sitting across from her, also lighting a cigarette, and pushing her blonde, matted, dirty hair from her face. It didn't even look blonde anymore but a strange brownish color. She looked over at me with her piercing blue eyes.

"Ya...you really do..." she mumbled in agreement with my mother. I remember the first time I had met Sparkle.

It was right after my dad left. Mum started to stay out later and later in the night, and one day she brought back this drunken idiot. Sparkle took one look at me and mumbled those three words that still made me crawl.

"Oh, so pretty..." then she added a sad, cruel laugh like it was the biggest joke. I've hated her ever since.

"Ya know what, I don't know where I went wrong with you. You don't have any fun...just like your father. Piece of crap. You and your father are both pieces of crap." she giggled to herself and Sparkle joined in.

"Ya, that's why he left you." I said over my shoulder. My mother said something under her breath that  I didn't quite catch. "I'm going to bed." I said walking towards my bedroom, in attempt to get out of this disgusting fog that lurk over my living room. I was just about to turn around to ask her if she needed something, when I felt a terrible, sharp pain in the back of my left arm.

"AHHH!" I screamed out in pain. "WHAT THE-?" I looked over my shoulder to see huge shards of glass sticking out the back of my arm. It began to leak of thick red blood that spread throughout my shirt sleeve. That was it. I took one look at my mother, she glanced at me then turned back to Sparkle, and angrily I walked into my room.

Rummaging around, throwing a bag on my bed, I began to stuff it with clothes. Only the things I knew I needed. Knowing I needed to get out quickly, no second thoughts. Tears streamed down my face yet, I stayed silent. I cannot let her know she's finally broken me, pulled my last straw. Once I was finished I grabbed my car keys off the night stand and left.

Mum has always done things to see how quickly she can crack me, how fragile I can be. Every opportunity she can get to push me further to the edge, she takes it. But I have never let her know how close I really was. I learned very quickly after my dad had left that showing weakness was  her thrive. She wanted me to show pain on the outside to resemble the pain she felt on the inside.

I have fallen over the edge.

Getting into my car and driving was easy, but clutching my arm to prevent myself from more bleeding with one hand was difficult. I tried to think about a logical explanation to tell Dr. Malsell. I've known him for years so he wont take just an "I fell down" story. I had  to think of something good.  I started to get lost in my thoughts. While I got closer and closer to the ER I became more and more confused. Things around me started to spin and my vision became blurry.

I finally got into the parking lot and got out of my car. What am I here for again? I asked myself but could not come up with the answer.

            Everything was just a shadow.

I looked across the way to see a figure, a dark figure. "Hey," it shouted, "You okay?" I realized my feet had stopped moving. When did I get out the car? What was this building again? What was happening in front of me? I was just about to ask if it knew where we were, when my head felt as light as ever, and my world became dark.

Harry's POV:

There was someone staring at me from across the lot. "Hey, you okay?" I asked them but they just kept starring. Suddenly they were falling to the ground. "Hey!" I shouted and ran over. There was a small girl that looked very pale and fragile. It seems as though something had broken her and she fell.

I bent down and carefully lifted her up off the cold, hard black top and ran to the ER entrance. Looking down at her face it seemed as if she was a porcelain doll that shouldn't be played with but rater be kept in a china cupboard to be admired. I knew she was real because her eye lids were fluttering just ever so slightly. "Help!" I screamed "I need a doctor! NOW!" a split second later one appeared with a gurney.

   "What happened?" he asked me

"I don't know! I'm here to pick up my mum and I saw her collapse in the car park!" I said laying her  down. I realized I was still yelling from shock. That's when I noticed the glass, shinning out of her arm. It almost seemed to sparkle in an odd way. But it didn't look like the clear glass from a door, it had a darkened brown tint to it. Her shirt, right hand, and jeans were covered in blood.

Her pale face held no emotion, yet she looked as she was merely sleeping. Her chest rose and fell in a small breaths. I noticed the soft features of her face more clearly in the light, the pinkness of her lips, darkness of her perfectly arched eye brows. It made me begin to wonder what color her eyes could be.

Nurses began to roll her away with the doctor leading the way. I started walking along side them as I kept my focus clearly on her features.

"Hold up pretty boy," a short, petite lady in green scrubs said to me, putting her hand on my chest, " you can't go back there." I looked into her big brown eyes with confusion. It didn't quite make sense to me why I couldn't pass by, I nodded though as if I did.

"What was that?" I heard a familiar voice say. I turned to see my mother

"I saw her pass out in the car park and carried her in." I said looking at the last place I saw her being rolled away before the lady had stopped me. I bet you could see the concern all over my face.

" You can stay here and wait for her." my mom said to me. "I'm alright to drive myself home."

I smiled, "Thanks mum." and handed her my keys. she turned and walked out the sliding doors. I walked across the room and took a seat in one of the waiting chairs and tried to settle in. Who knows how long I was going to be here. I had a strange feeling that I needed to sit here, for her. I didn't know how long I was going to be here but, I'm willing to wait.
