17. Outing

Harry's P.O.V.

I could tell Teddi was no longer in a downing mood anymore, but more embarrassed by our actions a few days ago. I guess I understood, she wasn't ready and that's okay.

I sat on an orange sofa in a hotel in New Jersey. We arrived here last night and today was our first day off on the tour. I wanted to do something for Teddi, but wasn't quite sure what. I knew I wanted to take her out but didn't know where. I got up from my seat and walked to the small kitchen area, picked up the black hotel phone and dialed up the front desk.

"Hello, front desk, how may I be at your service?'' A women with a very fake voice picked up.

"Hello ma'am, I was wondering if you knew the best restaurant within about 300 meters?" I asked her and she gave me a misunderstood,

"Huh?"

"Oh, I mean 15 miles." I corrected, remembering they counted differently over here.

"Yes sir, let me look that right up." she answered as I smiled into the phone.

                                                  ********

I told Teddi to get dressed about two hours ago. I looked at the clock and began to worry that we would be late and our table would be given away. Just as I was about to call out for her again, she came out of the bedroom slipping on her black heels.

She looked up with unsure in her eyes. Asking with her body language if she looked alright. Teddi stood here, clutch under her arm and smoothed her black dress that hugged her body beautifully.

"Beautiful." I breathed as she tucked her now curling-iron-curled hair behind her right ear. She walked over to me and gave me a sweet kiss on the lips. I smiled down at her small frame as her face beamed up to me. "Let's go." I said as I nodded to the door.

I slung a heavy arm tightly around her shoulders and walked through the hotel and down to the car park. I had asked the hotel to rent me something out and gave them a budgeted price. As I walked out I smiled at the black, classic mustang that a man was standing in front of.

"Styles?" he asked with keys in hand.

"Yes, that's me."  smiled and he handed me the keys.

"Have a nice ride." the man said and walked back into the entrance doors of the hotel. I smiled and looked down at Teddi. Her look wasn't as sweet as before.

"Harry," she began with a disapproving tone. "I told you I don't like you spending your money on-"

"I", I cut her off, "I have more than enough to spare, just get in." I let go of her waist and opened the car door, which she reluctantly sighed and got in. Shutting the door behind her, racing around the bonnet and hopping in myself, I sweetly put the key in the slot and it roared to life. I sped through the car park and down the street with the GPS already on and in route.

It only took about ten minutes to get there and I looked around for a parking spot closest to the entrance so we had to park in the net lot over, which was a walk away from the place. I helped Teddi out of her seat and tucked her under my arm. It was a bit chilly tonight as The summer air seemed to fade and leave more of an Autumn chill. As we got closer to the venue, I noticed a few people noticing me.

Some people that noticed me had cameras. Not the normal fan camera or just a camera you throw in your bag, but a pap camera. There were a few of the papz here and I really didn't want this night to turn into an escapade. I sighed heavily and Teddi noticed my hesitation and began to slow her pace.

"You alright?" she asked me in a quietly curious ring of voice. I looked down at her, remembering how innocent to the public eye she still is. I sighed again and brushed the issue off my shoulders.

"It's nothing." I assured her and kept walking. But she stopped. I looked down at her and she took my hand and towed me to the side of the building.

"What's wrong?" she asked me more urgently.

"There are a few papz here." I warned her. "I don't want this simple night to be ruined by there over bearing flashes and calls and questions. You don't need that and I don't want it. I don't want you to be in the public eye too much." I sighed once more. Teddi looked at me and playfully hit me in the arm.

"You." she stated, standing up straighter with a more affirmative voice. "You can martch right in there and not give them two cents. Who cares if a guys going to take our picture, maybe he just wants to frame it on his was with a little plaque that reads, "cutest couple ever." She smiled at me as I hooked her waist with my hand. I leaned over to give her a small kiss.

A big flash came from the right of us as a guy yelled out,

"Smile!" I turned to look at him as the other guys came up behind him and flashes were illuminating the dark side of the walkway. I grabbed Teddi's hand and began to tug her through the men with the cameras.

"Hey! Where you going?" they asked us as we kept walking. I didn't say anything and neither did she. I kept her body close to mine as she kept her head down. Luckily we were already close to the restaurant and I walked in quickly. Also, bonus, the papz weren't allowed inside.

"Styles." I breathed as we got to the hostess station. She looked down at her list and got up, grabbing two menus and walking us through the people holding conversations and eating. Some of the people looked at me in awe like I was a rare species that should be admired or a beautiful work of art, but I pretended not to notice and followed Teddi through the dinning hall.

The girl finally stopped at a table to the back of the room and Teddi took a seat

"Thank you." I said to her and she nodded, walking away.

Our waiter came a moment later and took our drink orders. He offered us some samples of wine and I quickly said no.

We were thn left alone for a few minutes, we carried on with small talk. Obviously some people around here were not keeping their ears to themselves. I smiled at her talking about an old memory of her father. She seemed to adore him in a way that is almost unbelievable. Then a ringing question came to mind.

"Teddi," I asked her, slightly cutting her off.

"Yeah?" she asked

"Why do you say you admire your dad so much, if- if he- left you?" I asked. It was a deep question. I took hold of her hand across the table as I leaned over, intrigued.

"I still adore my father because I know he didn't leave me. He left my mum. He knew that it would be too much for me to go through a divorce and a custody battle at the same time. And I was seventeen and by the time the battle would be over, I wouldn't need to be under custody. I would be a grown up and probably get the heck out of there. " she shrugged.

"Do you know where he is?" I asked her, she shook her head.

"I've tried to find him on the internet a few times. You know, his name on phone bills. credit cards, bank accounts, but nothing." she shrugged again with a deep sigh. I just looked at her as she stared  at our hands.

Our food came a few minutes later, and we chatted while we ate. I could see a few flashes coming from the window to our far left and I tried not to notice it. But they kept coming closer and then there where more and more of them. Now, two windows were filled and now coming on three. I didn't want a lot of pictures of Teddi. If anyone should have her picture, it's me.

It started to make me angry. Teddi caught on to my boiling attitude and called the waiter over.

She whispered something low in his ear and he nodded. A moment later all the staff was closing all the drapes to the windows so no one could see in. I took a sigh of relief.

Dinner was nice from then on. We chatted and ate and laughed and had an enjoyable time. Teddi was adorable when she eat as she chews slowly and takes small bites.

When we finished up and paid the bill I helped her up out of her seat and escorted her to the front of the dinning  hall.

"Wait." the hostess called from behind us. I turned and she had worry on her face. "There are a lot of them out there. If we had a back exit I would advise you to take it but we don't please be careful." she said to us and I nodded my head with a thank you.

I took Teddi's hand and held it tightly as wrapped my other hand around her shoulders.

"Ready?" I asked her as she tightened the grip on my hand. She nodded and we pushed the doors open, walking through the dense crowed of people and cameras. They began to shout questions or just a, "Hey over here!"

Teddi kept her head down and her face in the side of my body. I protectively stood over her as I pushed us through the crowd. Didn't they understand that she was just a normal girl that wanted to have a normal dinner with a normal guy that just had a few best friends that liked to sing a few normal songs every once and a while? I guess that wasn't obvious enough.

I finally made my way onto the black top and they still seemed to trail behind.

"Hey!" one yelled and I could see Teddi get pulled back. She shrieked a little and tried to pick up her pace again to match mine but I stopped cold. I turned quickly on my heal and glared my eyes at the person who tugged on her dress.

"You. Will. Not. Touch. Her." I said coldly and he man stopped there and let everyone else carry on. I walked to the car and shut her door tightly behind her. I worked my way round the front and hoped in. I let the car roar to life as I revved the engine at the papz to give them fair warning before I moved. They cleared away and let me seed away from the sight.

The car ride back to the hotel wasn't long at all, maybe because I was driving a little over the speed limit. Oh, what can you do? I just let myself blow off a bit of steam, is all. When we walked back into the hotel and made it to our room, I immediately turned to Teddi's confused face. She seemed to have a discomforting look on her face. She didn't know what to make out of the papz.

''I'm sorry." I whispered into her ear, just letting my lips tickle her right lobe. She nodded and looked up to me. I gave her a sweet kiss and she walked away. Into our bedroom she went to change and within minutes she was fast asleep.
