The Boy Down The Street

Elani Chade (pronounced Elahni) is an extremely shy, timid girl, who is struggling through bulling at school. Her only true friend, Louis Tomlinson, is loud, popular and a jokester. They are complete opposites, but are inseparable. What happens when they start falling in love? Will it work out well, or will it break their friendship?

19. Jogging

Her eyes fluttered open, before closing again, desperately trying to avoid the bright daylight. She attempted to tidy the bedraggled state of her hair away from her face, before realizing her arms were pinned to her sides.

A blush crept to her cheeks as she felt Louis bring her closer against his chest. Slowly prying his fingers away from her waist, Ellie sat up, rubbed her eyes and glanced at herself in the mirror. She groaned as she ran a hand through her tangled hair.

She jumped as behind her Louis mumbled, rolling onto the empty space where she had just lay. His hand skimmed over the sheets, puzzled with her absence. He finally settled for a pillow and cuddled that instead. Ellie smiled and made her way to the bathroom to get ready.

Her eyes lingered on her favourite shirt, her vans lying beside it. Louis speech came back to her, along with his intense, meaningful expression. She closed her eyes, frozen on the spot for a second, before retrieving them from the floor and carrying them in a bundle into the bathroom with her.

She had a quick shower, before drying herself and redoing her hair into a ponytail. Louis words hit her as she fastened the blue scrunchie. 'In my opinion, you have the most beautiful hair in the world.' Her hand touched her reflection in the mirror. Every other time Louis had mentioned he cared for her, she had brushed it off, assuming he said it to everyone. But this time, he had really meant every word. She could see it in his eyes.

She needed to think. Discarding her vans to one side, she pulled on her Nike free runs instead, filling up her water bottle. Pulling on a jumper and sweat pants, she stole a quick glance at the clock. She had an hour and a half before all students were called down for breakfast.

Ellie closed the door, making sure Louis was still asleep, and walked lightly down the hallway. She jumped back as a door opened beside her.

'Ellie?' Liam peered at her.

'Hey,' she whispered, 'I'm just going for a run.'

He smiled. 'Yeah, me too. Want to join me?'

She nodded, sweeping a stray piece of hair behind her ear. They walked down the stairs together.

'So, what brings you on this morning run?' Liam questioned, zipping up his jacket. 'Its quiet early.'

'It gives me time to think.' Ellie responded, opening the door to exit the hotel. 'To space out, you know?'

He nodded in understanding. 'I take it Louis slept in your room last night?' He grinned as heat prickled on her cheeks.

'Yeah-' If it was anybody else, they would have made annoying kissy noises, but since it was Liam he understood her discomfort.

'So,' he continued as they began to jog down the streets of Paris. 'How's life?'

She giggled, her puffs of breath coming out as smoke. 'Its not bad actually.'

'Jogging one of your hobbies?'

'Yeah. Athletics. You just feel so free.'

Liam nodded. 'What else do you like doing?'

Ellie thought for a moment. 'Reading, I guess.' She was the sort of person who enjoyed quietness.

'You enjoy reading? Why don't you get Louis to read? God, he's so hard. He refuses to do his homework.'

She laughed. 'That's him. All party mode.'

'Bianca's not harassing you anymore? I heard she was blackmailing Louis.'

'Yeah, I wish he didn't let her do that. I know he can protect himself but he didn't have to do all that for me.'

He glanced at her, their feet pounding in rhythm. 'He really cares for you.'

Her cheeks reddened again. 'I know. He's a great friend.'

He raised an eyebrow. 'He's still your friend? I thought after all this time he would of asked you out or something.'

She shrugged. 'Just friends. Best friends. MEGA best friends.'

'How long have you known each other?' 'Since I was around five. I moved to start school here.'

He nodded as they rounded a corner. Ellie breathed in the crisp, fresh air.

'Do you like him back?'

'What -what do you mean?' He smirked, his arms pumping strongly.

'He likes you so- do you like him back?'

She bit her lip shyly. 'He- likes me?'

'Aww come on. You must be living under a rock if you haven't noticed.'

'I dunno- I'm not very good with that kind of stuff-' she felt like dying from embarrassment.

Liam smiled kindly. 'Well, let me tell you he thinks about you all day. We never here the end of it.'

He winked. She turned away, pretending to admire the scenery, before making sure her cheeks were back to normal colour and facing Liam again.

'What do you like most about school?' He questioned.

She thought for a bit. 'Yeah- sport I guess. I don't like being kept in a classroom.'

'Im guessing sport isn't just a hobby?'

Ellie smiled. 'Its my best subject.'

Liam peered at her. 'How good are you, exactly?'

She attempted to change the subject and shrugged. 'Not very.'

'Have you ever represented the school?'

'Yeah-' Liam narrowed his eyes.

'What about you?' Ellie asked hurriedly. 'Do you like sport?'

His expression lit up. 'Oh yeah. Definitely. I'm enrolled for the next Olympics.'

Ellie''s eyes widened. 'Omg really? You have to train me!'

Liam chuckled. ' I don't remember you being this talkative.'

'Ive come out of my shell a bit.' The rest of the jog was quiet as Ellie thought about what Liam had said about Louis liking her. Her heart thumped as she went over all the times she and Louis had been together. She hoped Liam thought her face was flushed from the jog, and not from blushing. Soon they reached the entrance of the hotel.

'7:30' Liam said, looking at his watch. 'Perfect. Breakfast is in 30 minutes.'

Louis sighed in relief as Ellie walked through the door. 'You didn't tell me where you went! I was so worried!'

It was true. He had woken up alone, searching the entire hotel, without success.

She chuckled, blushing. 'I just went for a jog with Liam!'

'Why didn't you wake me?' He crossed his arms, annoyed that she decided to go with Liam than him.

'Because you were sleeping and I didn't want to disturb you!'

Niall, Harry and Zayn burst into the room. 'Oooohhh!' They said, making kissy faces. They laughed as the two turned crimson.

'Didn't Mrs O'Brian mention you weren't meant to spend the night together?' Zayn smirked.

'I was cold!' Gushed Ellie.

'Yes, so you went and cuddled Louis!' Niall laughed.

Liam appeared, putting on a new shirt. 'Come on guys. Leave them alone! Breakfast is soon!'

They left the room, and Louis thought he saw a small wink from Harry.
