The M Factor: It's Now or Never

Love and war do not mix well together.

The M Factor competition is all-out war, as talented people from all over the continent compete for the chance of a lifetime. I still don't know how I am even here, among the talented.

Love isn't something that you could merely push away. It isn't a feeling you could just ignore. Which is why I struggle between the balance of love and war.

Which will win in the end?

20. Finally At Peace

I wrapped my finger in the pink dress, swinging my feet as I unwrapped it. I was emotionally exhausted, and wanted to be left alone. My main purpose for this refuge was to seek answers, and to think. But thinking was the last thing I wanted to do. I sighed as I looked out into the theater, getting a different view of the audience from my seat at the edge of the stage. I didn't know why I was sitting on the stage- perhaps because everything became clear when I was on stage.

   But not in this case.

Nothing had became clear to me like I'd wished, and I was drained of hope and thoughts. I was just a living, emotionless, thoughtless, blob. And that was how I felt, too.

My head whipped around in alarm to see Jace, sauntering over to me. My stomach did a back handspring, as I stared up at him. I turned back to the empty seats, slouching down as he plopped down next to me.

" I really not mean anything to you?" Jace inquired, staring out into the invisible audience as well.

"Where did you get that from?" I scowled.

"You said it just a while ago, when you were going to perform."

"No, Jace. You don't not matter to me," I sighed. "You matter to me a lot.'re my world."

There was a silence for a while, as we stared out into the crowd. Something was different, though. Unexpectedly, it felt as if a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Suddenly, it didn't matter if he said he felt the same. It mattered that I was no longer the girl who sat at the curb and waited for the world. I was brave, and I had told the guy that I love him. I had made a move, instead of waiting around. And that meant a lot to me, considering all that I had been through.

The silence was disrupted by Jace turning to face me. I looked at him, anticipating his reply.

   "I love you too, Addison."

The emotion was indescribable, as our lips met for the first time. It was long awaited, as I put everything from my journey into the kiss. It felt like fireworks were erupting, as we sat on the M Factor stage. Finally, all was at its best.

Jace, the boys from Eagle Lane, and I were all waiting around the screen a week later, watching as the two antsy girls held hands. Olivia shot her a fake smile, but Kat was too nervous to respond.

"The person safe" Dermott said, keeping the audience on the edge of the seat. My fingers were crossed so much that my knuckles were a color of white. Let Kat stay, let Kat stay. "Katherine!"

Kat shut her eyes, but with a delicacy as if thanking God for the opportunity, and she hugged Olivia. I let out a laugh, because Kat must have been very relieved to the point where she was giving Olivia hugs. Olivia had a scowl across her face, like she was expecting Kat to be out. She had not practiced what would happen if she lost in the mirror. A smile grew upon my face with the fact that the world was seeing the true side of her- a snarky-devilish-full of malice jerk.

Dermott excused Kat from the stage, as she hurried off, with a beam shining as bright as the sun. As Olivia's flashback video rolled on the telly, Kat skipped into the lounge room and gave a pose as we all cheered, quite frankly relieved that Olivia was going- even Jace. We congratulated Kat, celebrating the loss of Olivia. In all of this excitement, something clicked in my head as I pulled Jace aside.

"Did you break up with her?" I checked.

Jace chuckled and nodded. "The second I found out you liked me."

My jaw dropped. "How did you know she wasn't lying?"

"I had to take a chance, and risk it all."

"So...does this mean that we are... a thing?" I suggested.

"If you want it to be," Jace shrugged, hope glistening in his eyes.

I nodded, smiling ever so bright. "Yes, yes I do."

As we kissed for the second time, there was a silence. I pulled away, wondering why everybody was struck with quiet. In the doorway stood Olivia, glaring at us- practically piercing into our souls.

"You got your wish, Carter," she snapped.

"Well, I have to you to thank," I pointed out, causing the bystanders to laugh.

"I'm glad to get out and be away from you people." Olivia admitted.

"The feeling is mutual," Kat retorted. Olivia stood her ground, her eyes flashed with fear, as she remained speechless. We all stared back at her in amusement, as she stomped away in anger and defeat.

"That was great," Eddy laughed, clapping his hands together.

"Way to go," Matt cheered, and we all cheered along with him.

For once in this entire competition, we were all finally at peace.
