Out To Find The Truth

Laurel is a happy, down to earth, beautiful, 16 year old girl but all that is about to change her, now that her mother has died, and she's on the search to find her father. The only clue she has is the two names her mother put in a letter written to her before her death. Is it the man the raised her until she was two years old who is the father of a major musical artist or a man that she knows nothing about?

3. Chapter 3

They got to the building Louis and Amanda were held hands as they walked to the front desk where there was a heavy set lady staring at a computer screen talking on the phone. She held her pointer finger up to signal them to wait, they stood there until she got off the phone.

"How can I help you?" She said turning to look at them while shuffling through paperwork.

"The Medical Examiners Office?" Laurel asked softly.

"It's down the hall to my right, then turn to the hallway on the left it's through the double doors at the end hall" She said looking at her with soft eyes she must have known she was there to do.

"Thank you, very much." Laurel told her.

The three were equally nervous they couldn't believe that they were doing this. Laurel had squeezed their hands just a little tighter as they walked through the double doors. As they walked in Laurel was surprised to see both Officers Douglas and Paxton sitting there waiting. The officers stood up immediately when they saw the group of kids walk through the doors holding hands.

"Hello Miss Bates." Said Officer Douglas

He was taller then she had remembered from the night and pretty handsome. "What are you doing here?" She asked trying not to cry she was actually happy that they were there.

"We thought you could use some support, I'll go get the examiner." Officer Douglas said as he started to walk away.

Officer Paxton just stood there looking like a statue, his eyes were a beautiful bright blue color and he was so tall. He quickly looked back at Laurel and caught her staring at him, he gave her a smile then looked away.

The door shot open as a lady in a lab coat was walking by Officer Douglas she extended her hand out to Laurel. She greeted them all "Hi I'm Mrs. Daniels the M.E. are you ready, you can bring your friends if you want?"

"We'll go with you don't worry about that." Louis said holding her hand as he looked down to her.

"No…thanks but I can do this...I'm ready!" Laurel said looking at everyone then turning to walk to the door. The Officers and Mrs. Daniels lead the way, Officer Paxton slowed and put his hand on my shoulder I looked at him and gave him a smile. When they entered the room she noticed that it was cold, in front of her was a gurney where laid a person under a blue sheet. Laurel took a deep breath and walked up to the body her chest was feeling really tight just then. When Officer Douglas placed his hand on my other shoulder she started to relax just a little.

In the other room Amanda could not sit still she kept walking back and forth. "We should of went in there with her, she can't do this alone Louis she needs us!" She said as she started to  walk to the door when Louis grabbed her hand as she stated to cry. He pulled Amanda into a hug and let her sob on his shoulder. He felt so numb he couldn't believe that they were going through this Anna was like a mom to them all and now she was gone soon enough tears were falling from his swollen eyes.

"Hey it's like Sandy said she likes to do some things on her own, we might not like it but we have to just let her be." Louis was always so good at calming them down, They both stood there holding each other crying and waited for them to come out.

"Please be ok, please, please be ok." Amanda recited to herself.

Laurel was playing with her as she looked up to Mrs. Daniels "Okay I'm ready!" She said looking at sheet.

"I'm just going to uncover the face." She said grabbing the end of the sheet lifting up and over.Laurel saw my moms light brown curly hair, it looked like she was sleeping. She was so pale, she wanted to hold her I want her to wake up.

"Is it her?" Said the voice behind her. She wasn't sure who it was that said it, she turned around to her left and hugged the Officer.

"YES IT'S HER, IT'S MY MOM." She cried into his chest, he walked her out through door to her friends they ran up and pulled her into their arms. When I calmed down she noticed was holding Officer Paxton by the hand. Everyone was out in the room now she had to sign the paper work to release the body Mrs. Daniels asked  Laurel if she knew what funeral home she was going through.she just shook her head no because she had no clue how to do any of this.

"Don't worry it's no hurry just call me when everything gets planned." She said as she place a business card in Laurels hand.

"Thank you so much, I promise I'll call." She assured her.

"Are we done here, can we take her home?" Louis asked the Officers

"Wait...you never told me or I don't remember if you did but about the accident what happened?"She asked confused, everyone in the room got quite.

"Not here lets go to…ok here we go." Officer Douglas said as he searched for an empty room. They all walked in as he shut the door behind him.

"So what happened did she fall asleep…what happened?" She asked again.

"Miss Bates…" Officer Douglas started to talk but this is just so formal.

"Laurel…my name is Laurel please...just call me...Laurel!" She yelled "I'm sorry!" She looked at the Officers as she apologized

"Don't worry about it...Laurel. It wasn't your mom's fault she was going through the intersection when a pick-up truck ran a red light and t-boned her car she passed away instantly." Officer Douglas explained.

"What about the other driver are they ok?" Laurel asked.

"He was drunk and walked away with just a few scrapes. He's in jail, you'll be notified about the court date I think it's next Wednesday at 9:00 a.m." Said Officer Paxton he was noticeably angry.

"Okay thank you for everything, can I go home now?" She asked as a tear ran down her cheek.

"Yes you may, Laurel here's my card if you need anything just give us call." Said Officer Douglas

"I will, thank you." She said as she hugged them both and left with her arms around her friends waist.

"How are you doing, do you want to go get something to eat before we take you home?" Amanda asked as she opened my car door.

"No, I'm not hungry but I don't want to go home yet." Laurel said staring out the window of the car looking at the beach ahead.

"I know where to go." Louis said watching her, he then quickly changed the radio from a sad song something fun.

They both started dancing in there seats at the red light, Laurel couldn't help but laugh Louis was an awful dancer. She closed her eyes and felt music and move her body. This was fun she then knew that she was going to be ok, she know it. When She opened her eyes a smile grew on her face it was her most favorite place in the would The Santa Monica Pier.
