Out To Find The Truth

Laurel is a happy, down to earth, beautiful, 16 year old girl but all that is about to change her, now that her mother has died, and she's on the search to find her father. The only clue she has is the two names her mother put in a letter written to her before her death. Is it the man the raised her until she was two years old who is the father of a major musical artist or a man that she knows nothing about?

10. Chapter 10

When I woke up this morning the sun rise was bright as it entered my room I laid there watching the light creep up the wall up to the ceiling. Louis was cuddling with Amanda they looked cute I always thought they did. I got up slowly so that I didn't wake them, I grabbed my phone, the small card on my night stand and then walked out to the patio I sat down on my outdoor sofa. Mom let me pick it out when I was 12 it was made of dark brown wicker with lime green cushions It was my favorite place to hangout in my room. We all spent countless hours out here projects, games, small parties, mom and I watching the lightning shows...I really hope it don't rain anytime soon.

I pulled out the business card that Mr. Machol gave me yesterday I looked at it for a while it was white, The letters were raised I ran my finger over the name Mr. Tyler Ferrel Private Investigator. I grabbed my phone and started to punch in the number but then I stopped and put the phone down on the cushion. "What am I doing I made up my mind already, I can do this." I picked up the phone and punched in the number again, it was early so I know the voicemail would pick up.

A very deep voice flooded the speaker. "Hello you have reached Mr. Tyler Ferrel Private Investigator I couldn't reach the phone but please leave me your information and I'll get back to you, Thanks and have a good day."

"Umm…Hi my name is Laurel Bates, my mothers lawyer Mr. Machol gave me your card I'm wanting to look for my father and all I have is two names. So if you could please help I would appreciate it very much." I left him my number and them hung up, I wonder when he'll call back I hope it's not long. Gosh before yesterday I didn't care about my father but now He's all I'm thinking of.

I stood up from the couch and walked inside I went to find my swim suit, a swim sounds really good right now. I changed and walked over to my desk and grabbed a marker and a stack of post it notes. I wrote "YOU. CAN. FIND. ME. HERE." each word on a single page the first one I put on Louis's forehead, then my bedroom door, the fromt door. the door that lead upstairs, and then my lounge chair. No one was here yet thats good I love being in the pool alone. I dove in, the water was amazing I just floated around it was nice. The sky was bright blue and beautiful, big puffy clouds lingering above. All of a sudden I felt someone dive in right next to me, I was surprised and stared sinking they grabbed me and brought me up to the surface.

"I said to scare her not drown her!" Amanda yelled from the side of the pool.

"Louis you idiot!" I yelled as I hit him. He just laughed.

"Hey do you need mouth to mouth?" He laughed.

"No thank you, I would rather drown" As I wiggled out of his arms.

"Did you guys like the notes I gave you." I giggled looking at them.

"Yeah very creative" He snickered. "Amanda get your ass in here or I'll throw you in." He said pulling himself up from the pool.

"Don't you do it Louis!" She yelled running around the pool screaming, soon enough he grabbed her and picked her up like a bride and jumped in.

"YOU JERK!" She yelled we splashed around for a while then got out because they were starving, I should really eat something too. We got out just in time a huge group of kids started running and jumping in screaming like no other.

When we got back Aunt Terri was in the kitchen already making pancakes, eggs and bacon. Luke was getting plates and glasses from the cupboard then walking over to the dining table, Amanda went to the table to help by grabbing the silverware.

"It smells awesome in here Terri." Louis said as he stole a piece of bacon from the plate next to her.

"LOUIS, you can wait five mins." She said with a laugh.

"But I'm starving and I'm a growing boy." He said grabbing some more, she slapped his hand away.

"I called him." I said sitting on the stool at the island in the kitchen. Everyone stopped and stared at me with confused looks on their faces.

"What are you taking about, you called who?" Aunt Terri said still looking confused.

"I called the P.I. it was early so I left him a message."

"That's good honey, I hope he gets back to you soon." She said  as she walked over giving me a hug. "Well everyone get seated it's ready."

"Mmm, this is so good Terri your awesome!" Louis mumbled with a mouth full of pancakes.

"I'll get it." I said jogging to the door, When I opened it I saw Andy standing there in jeans and a t-shirt gosh he was gorgeous.

"Hey Laurel!" He said with a smile, a perfect smile wow I'm melting.

"Hey, come in!" I tried not to sound dorky, I think it worked.

"Hey Andy you made it, come on over and grab yourself a plate." Aunt Terri said.

"Good morning, thanks for inviting me Terri." He said as he sat down next to my empty chair. I noticed Louis staring at him oh please don't say something stupid, he then looked down and started eating again. I slowly walked back to my seat and sat down next to him, he turned and smiled at me.

"So Laurel how are you doing this morning?" He said grabbing a piece of bacon.

"Umm…I'm doing pretty good, how bout yourself?" I said grabbing my toast.

"That's good, I can't complain."

"Cool." I said as I looked over to Amanda she had a huge goofy smile on her face ugh what was she thinking.

Everyone was chatting and having a great time it was so fun and it felt like old times. I really missed it, I miss her I wish mom could be here I really do. When breakfast was over with I grabbed all of the dishes and started washing them.

"Do you need some help with that?" I heard a voice from behind me.

I looked back and it was Andy he still had that perfect smile on his face. "Sure why not, how bout you dry."

"So I heard you called the P.I. are you nervous?" he asked as I handed him a glass.

"I kinda am, I don't really know what to expect. What if he can't find them or what if they don't want anything to do with me?" I just stood there with a dish in my hand, he grabbed and placed it in the sink and pulled me into a hug and kissed the top of my head.

"Whatever happens, you have amazing people in your life that are all here for you and I want you to know that you can talk to me whenever you need. Laurel your amazing I knew that when I first saw you." He held me tighter and felt amazing we just stood there for a minute.

"Hey…Oh sorry." Louis said as he walked in, we pulled away quickly.

"Umm…Amanda and I are leaving...we gotta stop at our places to change then get to work" He wouldn't take his eyes off of us. Andy was now facing the sink drying a plate.

"I'll be right back." I told him and walked over to Louis.

"What are you doing Laurel?" He said in a deep quite voice.

"It's nothing I was just upset, and he was just being nice that's all."

"That's all no Laurel that's not all you like him don't you? No wait don't answer that I don't want to know."

"Hey Louis you ready to go?" Amanda said as she walked up to us. Then a confused look grew on her face. "Um is everything ok?" She added.

"Yes…Let's go." He said as he opened the door. I followed them into the hall.

"Louis wait…" I yelled.

"I gotta go we can talk later...maybe." He yelled back they were already down the hall at the elevator.

"I'll see you later Laurel." Amanda said before she got into the elevator. I just stood there for a second and then turned to go inside. I walked to the kitchen Andy was washing now so I grabbed a towel and started drying, we stood there in silence for a moment.

"He likes you doesn't he?" Andy said handing me a spoon.

"Yeah he does, I just don't feel the same for him I never have. I tried but you can't force something like that it won't be real and how is that fair?" I said as I picked up a plate to dry.

"Have you told him that?" He said.

"No but I guess I should, maybe tonight." I said as I stopped to look at him.

"Don't worry he'll understand, he's your best friend." He gave me a hug and then handed me another dish. Thank goodness it was the last one so now that everything was done we walked through the living room out to the patio to join Aunt Terri and Luke. They look so sweet together I'm glad she's happy.

"So what are you guys going to do today?" I asked them.

"We're going to spend the day at the beach." Luke said still looking at Aunt Terri.

"What are you going to do?" Aunt Terri asked as she looked away from Luke.

"I'm not to sure maybe a bike ride" I said.
