5. Accident

Chica Bella was still grazing but something didn't seem right about the air, it wasn't anywhere near as peaceful as before.  She looked up and snorted, looking around.  Something wasn't right.  She didn't know what was wrong, but had a horrible feeling that danger was closeby.  Perhaps it was the strange two legged again?  But he only came early morning and dusk in her experience, and he'd only been gone a few hours.  By now, she'd realised he worked with his dog to herd sheep into a field so that they could eat in peace.  Concerned and alert, Chica Bella snorted again and decided to move away from her current location.  A lot more panicked, she ran to the open, snorted and moved her head up and down.  That's when she saw it, it was the two legged again.  His dog wasn't with him, but he was just sitting down alone eating.  Was that an Apple?  Yeep, it was, he was munching on it happily and oh, did she want it, and badly!  But she didn't trust him enough, he could be a predator leading her into a false sense of security and just waiting to strike out and kill her.  Her thoughts were distracted by a sense of fear in the air, she was picking up bad signals, but not really around herself.  She looked down and spotted something moving in the bushes.

At first, she had no idea what it was, but soon it left the bushes and revealed itself as another dog.  That was enough for her to back off and head further up the hill.  At least it was enough until she heard something.  A terrible noise came to her ears, making them prick up.  It was the two legged again, running towards her with the dog chasing him.  Initially, her reaction would be to run too, but she watched as he ran past her and started up the hill but tripped.  He didn't look hurt, but she could sense he was scared.  She watched him as he tried to get up and run, but his leg seemed to be stuck.  The horse was stuck in a battle of her mind and heart.  Should she go with her mind, which was telling her to run like her parents taught her?  Or her heart which told her to protect this seemingly nice creature?  The look on his face made her decide.

She snorted and rushed in front of the dog, stamping and whinnying at the dog, desperately trying to scare it off, and trying to protect herself from getting bitten at the same time.  Her opponent barked and snarled, trying to bite her, but she dodged, jumped and kicked, getting a few successes.  Soon, it looked like she might be winning agaisnt the pup, until it lashed out without warning and bit her leg, not letting go.  It was agony for her, but still she tried her best to get the dog off, kicking, rearing and stamping.  Finally, it yelped, whined and got off, legging it back into the bushes and far away.

Jarmain got up, still in shock from everything he saw and how he'd nearly got mauled by a crazy dog.  The horse had saved his life!  But he was soon brought back to his senses when he saw she was hurt pretty badly in her front leg, there was a deep wound and she was obviously in pain, snorting and wincing everytime she tried to put weight on it.  He couldn't leave her like this!  He had to do something!  Jarmain got up and went over to her, she looked at him and snorted again, making him pause.  She clearly wasn't 100% comfortable with him.

'Easy girl, it's alright, come on, I won't hurt you.'  She hesitated and turned her head away when he tried to stroke her.  'Shh.  Hey, I promise you I wanna help.'  He whispered and tried grabbing her mane so that he could guide her home, but that only made her panic and shake her head, she backed off and reared up, whinnying.  Jarmain sighed.  He was gonna have to get help, and that meant getting his dad and other people who could scare her, but at least then she'd be safe with him.  He looked back at his home which he could see from the top of the hill.  'Right girl, I'm gonna got get help, stay here, ok?'  He said and ran down, only turning back once.  She wasn't moving, just watching him go.

Jarmain raced down the hill as fast as possible.  'Dad!!!  Dad?'  His father came walking out.

'Oh, hey buddy.'

'Hey, listen um...'  Jarmain paused.  He just couldn't do that to Bella Chica, his father would scare him too much, he'd have to risk getting hurt and do it himself.

'Can I have some rope?'

'Rope?  For what?'

'There's a nice tree up there, I wanna make a swing.'

'Son, are you sure that's such a good idea?'

'Yeah, I'm bored, I wanna make a swing up there.'  His father shrugged.

'Alright then, Mr. Bored person.'  He chuckled, ruffling Jarmain's hair and went to the shed, coming out with some rope and a tire.  'Here you go, have fun and be careful, yeah?'

'Will do.  Thanks, see ya!'  Jarmain said and ran back to where he'd left the horse as fast as possible and much to his relief, she was still there!  'Hey girl.  It's gonna be alright.  Easy.'  He dropped the tire and made a loop and knot in the rope so that it could go around her neck and he could pull her back home.

The moment he began to approach her, she panicked again, moving her head and snorting, something she seemed to like doing.  She reared up and whinnied as he threw the loop successfully around her neck.  Now was the hard part, he took a deep breath and began to pull.  She was making all sorts of noises and moving about everywhere, trying her best to get away from him.  It broke his heart to do this, but she needed help.

'WHAT THE HELL, JARMAIN?!!'  His Dad yelled the moment he saw his son pulling a horse going bezerks.

'You can be mad at me later, just open the old paddock!'  Jarmain yelled, struggling to control Chica Bella.  Nat was also there and standing there wide - eyed, but he came to his senses first and ran to the paddock, opening the gate wide.  Jarmain swallowed and got the rope off the horse.  She raced into the enclosure and panicked once she realised she was trapped.

'Jarmain, what the fuck is this?!!!'

'She's hurt, I have to help her!'  Jarmain replied in defense, knowing he was probably in big trouble.

'Jesus, she's one crazy animal.'  Nat said and watched the horse running around the paddock bucking.

'Calm down, Chica Bella!'

'You NAMED her?'  Marcus asked his son, who he was already furious at.

'Yeah, like you said, Chica Bella, that's the phrase, right Nat?'

'Er... yeah, beautiful girl.  I guess you got the girl part right.'

'Isn't she beautiful?'

'She's something, I'll give her that.'

'Jarmain. Inside.  Now.'  Marcus had lost it and was even fighting the urge to give his son a right spanking.

'I'm sorry Da-'

'Now!!'  Jarmain sighed and walked inside, keeping his head down.  He was gonna get it.  And bad.
