5. Chapter 5

Lucy's P.O.V.

"Would you mind answering a question for me?" the stranger said as he stepped out of his car. He was tall and handsome as far as I could tell, but the intense rain made it hard to be sure.

I looked down at my bare feet and then back at him. "Yeah?" I asked.

He grinned, not minding the fact that he was already halfway soaked. "What's a pretty girl like you doing in the middle of a highway in a thunderstorm?"

For the first time since the incident, I managed to smile. I ran my hand through my drenched curls before replying, "I don't know."

"Well, if you remain here in the rain, you're going to get sick and could possibly die," he said with a wink. Before I could reply, he looked down at my feet and then asked, "And your shoes?"

"They're somewhere down that way in the hills," I said as I pointed to the hills behind me.

He stuffed his hands in his pockets and looked up at the falling rain. "Would you like a ride?" he asked.

"How do I know you won't rape me?" I ask, crossing my arms in front of my chest.

"It's not rape if both people enjoy it," he teased.

I gasped in shock, but couldn't help giggling. "Cocky, I see," I said as I walked closer to him.

"Please, it's only the mere truth," he assured me. He held his arm in front of me, signaling me to go into the passenger seat.

"I can't," I stutter.

"So you'd rather remain walking barefoot in the rain?" he asked. I only nodded my head. "Love, I'm probably the only guy that even bothered to stop and ask if you were ok."

"Oh no, every guy that drove by immediately stopped and practically ran to me, begging me to get in their car," I lied.

He only smiled before gently saying, "Just get in the car."

"Fine, but only because I am really hungry," I said as I stepped into his Maserati.

"Sure," he said sarcastically as he closed the door for me. He walked around the front of the car and into the driver's door. Before he said another word, I interrupted.

"Just so you know, I have pepper spray, and you don't know where."

He smirked before replying, "I guess I'll have to look for it then."
