20. Justin's Song

Justin's POV

The minute the text driver pulled onto Albert Road, the huge club came to view. Heat and Spark were two separate buildings joined by glass catwalk. Heat was one side, Spark was the other. Both clubs had separate dance floors and bars, but there was a section in the middle where both clubs came together. That was the stage that I was going to be performing on. I felt those butterflies flutter around in my stomach as I paid the driver and I guided Selena out of the taxi.

Relax Justin, you're going to be fine.

Oh who am I kidding, I'm going to die in front of thousands of people, especially Selena.

No Justin, you can do this, do it for Selena!

I groaned at my inner monologue again and rubbed a hand over my eyes.

"Hey you okay?" Selena turned back to look at me, concern shining in her eyes.

"Yeh, I'm good, just nervous I guess..." I drifted off, glancing at all the people entering the club.

"C'mon you can't be serious. Justin Bieber is nervous?" She snickered.

I gave her a look that clearly said, "Does it look like I'm joking to you?" and sighed when she mumbled "Sorry."

"Don't worry let's just go inside, and I'll go get us some drinks okay? Stay where you are and don't move" She nodded before I turned away and walked off.

Selena's POV

I felt bad for teasing Justin for being nervous, it was normal for everyone, so why did I do it? I was so caught up in my thoughts I didn't even realise there was a person standing in front of me. I looked up and saw a short man with blonde hair and blue eyes. He was holding two cups of punch that was most likely spiked, and handed one to me. I gave him a questioning look, before accepting it, but not drinking it.

"Wow, you're hot!" he said excitedly.

"Hi..." Where were his manners? No "Hello, nice to meet you?"

He just grinned.

"So what's your name sugar?" he tried to sweet talk me, but I turned away, disgusted. I went straight to the bar and ordered a shot of Patron. I threw it back, wincing at the burn as it slid down my throat, and ordered another one-repeating the process, not knowing what was taking Justin so long.

There. I filled my quota.

"Wow. Are you trying to get drunk?" he asked, holding a bottle of Coors Light. His blue eyes looked me over.

"No. Just drank so I wouldn't have to talk to you." I flagged the bartender down and ordered an apple martini.

"Okay but you never answered my question, what's your name?"

"Selena, yours?" I took a sip of my drink.

We stood there awkwardly, unsure of what else to say to one another. I looked around the crowed room and saw couples making out under the blue lights. I squinted my eyes trying to look for Justin, but he was nowhere to be found.

I stirred my martini and started to feel the heat from the alcohol spread through my body and the sluggishness that accompanied it.

"So. Nick. Why the pink shirt?"

He shrugged and smiled at me good-naturedly. "I'm confident enough in my masculinity to wear one. I also have a pair of pink pants."

"What the hell? Why?"

"Why not?" he countered with a grin.

"Are you gay?"

He laughed. "No. I wore them for a golf tournament my fraternity was in."

"I'll be right back," Nick said, looking around the room. "I need to find the bathroom."

"Good luck with that."

As soon as he walked away, I put my head in my hands and groaned. He was definitely not my type. He was short, his hair was in neat, gelled spikes, his shirt was perfectly ironed-even his jeans looked ironed. I went for tall guys, ripped with lean muscle. With honey brown eyes and coppery brown hair...

Stop it, Selena, stop thinking about him, because you know he will never like someone like you.

I felt a warm hand clasp my shoulder, and I went rigid with aggravation.

"No," I said, never turning around.

I heard a familiar, velvet chuckle in my ear. "Is that any way to greet your friend who will be singing on stage tonight, Selena?"

Ah, hell.

Justin's POV

I knew I was taking a long time, but I needed everything to be perfect for tonight. I had gone backstage to tune my guitar and made sure everything was set up when it was my turn. I stepped out from behind the curtains, scanned the crowd and stopped suddenly at the bar. There she was, standing next to a blond haired nancy boy in a pink shirt. She looked absolutely stunning in her fitted dress that accentuated her rich, creamy skin. Her hair was in loose curls and her cheeks were colored a pale, delicate pink from the alcohol. Even though I had seen her beforehand, she still stunned me with her beauty every time I looked at her.

She was the only one to ever cause that reaction from me with just the pooling of her blood under her skin.

I watched the interaction between the two of them, ignoring everyone around me, I felt my fists clench when he started to lean in closer to her but smirked when I noticed she looked absolutely miserable. At least now I know that she has no interest in him. I completely forgot about the fact that I was going to get her a drink, but as soon as she was alone, I found myself walking over to her-drawn in to her like a moth by a flame. I was suddenly determined to bring a smile to that sultry mouth of hers.

I put my hand on her shoulder and she instantly stiffened at my touch. "No," she said in annoyance.

A light chuckle escaped my throat. "Is that any way to greet your friend who will be singing on stage tonight, Selena?" I whispered in her ear, catching a whiff of her dreamy, floral scent. I wanted to run my nose across her skin and drink in her body's incredible perfume.

She spun around and looked horrified. "Oh, my God. I'm so sorry. I thought you were someone getting ready to hit on me."

I smiled warmly at her, masking the jealously that raged through me. "Has that been a problem tonight?"

"No," she said sheepishly. "But Nick just walked away, so I thought someone would try to take advantage of me being alone. They usually do."

"Nick?" I questioned, focusing on keeping my face blank.

"The guy before who went to the bathroom." She replied. "So are you ready for your big show tonight?"

I took a step back and ran my hand through my hair. "It's not like I have a choice, so I guess so."

I drifted my eyes up to meet hers, when I felt a soft, warm hand grasp mine, sending waves of electricity through my arm.

"You know, you don't have to perform if you don't want to. I just thought -," she whispered, turning her head away from me, but not before I caught a wave of sadness lingering in her eyes.

"No, I appreciate it really," I interjected. She nodded still not looking at me. I didn't stop the urge to turn her head back towards me and brush my thumb across her cheek, causing it to tingle warmly at the contact. "I'm just letting my nerves get the best of me," I promised, making her beautiful brown eyes widen slightly. "I'll be happy to perform in front of this crowd, especially you." The words were out of my mouth before I could stop them.

"Thanks," she smiled, and this time, it reached her eyes.

"Selena?" We both looked in the direction of the voice to see Nick looking down at our still joined hands in disbelief. I abruptly loosened my hold and dropped my hand, feeling the loss instantly. "Who is this guy?"

"Um,," she said uncomfortably. "He's my friend."

Mike's eyebrows shot up, and he looked between the two of us, like he was trying to find the missing piece of a puzzle.

"I was just telling Selena about how I'm going on stage to perform soon," I said amiably and glanced at my watch, "which is around about now. I'll see you guys soon."

I threw a quick smile at Selena before running off stage to grab my guitar.

Selena's POV

"So you two are just friends?" Nick asked me with an expression on his face that I couldn't place.

"Yep, just friends." I replied, but my heart was telling me otherwise. I really liked Justin, but did I want to date him? I felt a thrill run down my spine in being Justin's girlfriend. But of course, that will never happen, he will never be interested in me.

I looked up just in time to see Justin clear his throat nervously.

"So, um hi guys. Most of you won't know me, as I am a tourist and haven't been here for very long. But you see, my friend Selena who has accompanied me here has persuaded me to sing for you all, so tonight, I'm going to sing this song that I had written ages ago. This is for you Selena."

I gasped silently, with ushered tears in my tears.

We're under pressure, seven billion people in the world trying to fit in
Keep it together, smile on your face even though your heart is frowning
But hey now, don't know girl, we both know what to do
But I will take my chances...

As long as you love me, we could be starving,
We could be homeless, we could be broke
As long as you love me i'll be your platinum, i'll be your silver, i'll be your gold
As long as you lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-love me
As long as you lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-love me

I blinked rapidly as his soothing voice filled the room. I glanced around and saw couples swaying lightly to the music, wrapped up in each other.

I'll be your soldier, fighting every second of the day for the change girl
I'll be your Hova, you can be my Destiny's Child on the scene girl
So don't stress, don't cry, oh we don't need no wings to fly
Just take my hand

As you love me we could be starving,
We could be homeless, we could be broke
As long as you love me i'll be your platinum, i'll be your silver, i'll be your gold
As long as you lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-love me
As long as you lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-love me

He finished the song with one last strum as silence filled the air. His eyes met mine in the crowd and before I could stop myself, I ran towards the stage and threw my arms around his neck.

"That was so beautiful," I whispered, before capturing his lips with mine as I kissed him in front of everyone.
